Visiting The Three Cities in Malta
In this week's episode we're taking you to three very historical cities on the main island of Malta. Birgu, Cospicua and Isla were the center of The Great Seige of Malta in 1565 when the Ottoman Empire attacked the Knights of St.John capital. Today, little shows from this epic battle as much of the cities and their fascinating architecture have been restored.

MALTA, MARSAXLOKK WALKING TOUR - Market and Fishing Boats
Marsaxlokk is a small, fishing village on the South East coast of Malta. It's famous for its picturesque harbour, brightly painted fishing boats known as luzzu and kajjik (with their characteristic painted eyes on the prow - 'the Eye of Osiris',) and the Marsaxlokk Market. This is a major fish market that takes place on Sundays - the tourist market taking place the rest of the week.
Filmed on a Sunday, we'll see part of the fish market as well as some of the most noted restaurants along the way.
We begin our walk on a jetty at the end of Xatt is-Sajjieda, the road that stretches along the seafront. The bright luzzu and kajjik boats bob in the harbour, their characteristic blue, red, yellow and green paintwork reflected in the water. It's immediately obvious why Marsaxlokk is one of the best day trips from Valletta, and leads the top 10 things to do in Malta if you're visiting.
There's so many places to eat in Marsaxlokk, many with gorgeous views over the harbour - from Costa Coffee to Harbour Lights, Roots Restaurant, La Nostra Padrona Restaurant, Pisces Restaurant Marsaxlokk and Cafe De Paris - naming just a few.
It's a perfect place to sit out and people watch - but make sure to book if you're visiting on a Sunday.
We continue our walk by following Triq Il Wilga, passing the rated Tartarun restaurant and Terrone to follow the line of boats out to the end of the quay.

Wood Travels :: Malta
Highlights from our trip to Malta! Malta is one of the southernmost mediterranean island located just north of Africa and southwest of Sicily, Italy. It is chocked full of interesting history, culture, and beauty. One of the country's national languages is English, which makes travel easy too :)
We stayed in the quiet fishing town of M'garr on the North West corner of the main island. Because we planned to visit more remote spots, we rented a car (which was REALLY CHEAP). Because Malta was once an English territory, driving is on the left side of the road. The people joke that the Maltese are so religious because they have to drive here. We were okay, but if you want to see more of the tourist things, and visit the cities, I would NOT recommend a car. The bus system is great and also really cheap.
We loved the boat ride to Comino. I would NOT recommend using the ferry unless you were also visiting Gozo. Blue Wave Watersports offers great, inexpensive tours around the whole island of Comino, and is a nice break from the massive crowds at the Blue Lagoon. You can see the crowds in the video, and it was the LOW SEASON. Next time, we will camp overnight on the island to get the best morning/evening views before the crowds come in.
THINGS TO SEE AND DO:
* Comino - (see above)
* Mellieha Bay - great beach for families and swimming
* Golden Bay - one of the few resorts directly on a big beach, yummy restaurants, nice sunset view, towers a short hike away
* Fomm Ir Rih Bay - secluded, a bit hard to get to, but stunning
* Coral Lagoon - beautiful. kayak from Little Armier Beach
* Mdina - Beautiful, perfectly instagrammable, great restaurants, panorama views
* Marsaxlokk - fun open market, freshest seafood on the island, beautiful bay full of traditional luzzu fishing boats
* Mosta - Old Rotunda and the LDS church
* Dingli Cliffs - most beautiful from the water, try and get a boat :)
MUSIC:
* The World is Ours - David Correy and Ira Losco
* Ocean - Lauren Aquilina
* L-ewwel tfajla li ħabbejt - The Malta Bums

Nissen Huts at Ta Qali Malta
A walk round the deserted Nissen huts at Ta Qali in Malta. This was a world war 2 airfield, these huts housed the aircrew, groundstaff, machinery and stores. The airfield was closed in the 1960's, and some of the Nissen huts have formed a craft village.
