Something about Hal Ghaxaq
The village of Hal Ghaxaq, lies between Gudja and Zejtun in the southeast of the island of Malta. To its south are the valleys of Has Saptan and Dalam. Narrow, winding alleyways lead to Hal Ghaxaq's grand Baroque parish church (1760) that is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady.
Among the interesting sites in this village are churches dedicated to Christ the Redeemer and St. Philip Neri. Behind the parish church is an interesting old house whose facade is decorated with sea shells and snail shells. The house is called Dar il-Bebbux, that translates to 'house of snails'. Ghaxaq is also the location of one of three Semaphore Towers that were constructed on the Maltese islands in 1848 (the other two are in Gharghur and Nadur, Gozo). Semaphore telegraph was used for visual signalling before the advent of electrical telegraph.

Roman Malta 4 & Megalithic Malta 9 - Tal-Qadi, Burmarrad
The Burmarrad plain was, for several millenia, until well into the Roman period, home to a harbour that had its entrance through present-day Salina Bay. Various settlements bordered the harbour in antiquity. Among them were the ubiquitous Maltese stone-age megalithic temple builders and their temple Tal-Qadi that dates back more than 5000 years. The temple was originally located on the eastern shore of the harbour but nowadays overlooks the Burmarrad plain and fertile fields. Across the plain on high ground close to Burmarrad parish church are the ruins of a Roman villa that seems to have been used extensively for the industrial production of olive oil. The villa's location was probably purposely planned close to the harbour in order to facilitate export of this precious commodity to other parts of the Roman Empire. The 17th century chapel of 'San Pawl Milqi' now occupies part of this site. At the entrance to the harbour, close to present-day Salina Bay, was a significant complex of catacombs and even mysterious prehistoric cart-ruts that abound in various areas of the Maltese islands. The former entrance to the ancient harbour is nowadays occupied by salt pans that give the bay its modern name.

Good Friday (Il-Ġimgħa l-Kbira) is a day of penance, and this is strictly observed through the veneration of the Cross (is-Salib) and through traditional Good Friday processions in different parishes. Statues representing various scenes from the Passion and Death of Christ, several of them veritable works of art by local artisans, are carried processionally. Figures dressed in Biblical, Roman and Jewish attire also take part, as do the local bands playing funeral marches. The following site is about Good Friday celebrations in Valletta, the Capital City of Malta) The Good Friday ritual in Malta includes visits to seven tabernacles, or Altars of Repose, in seven different churches. Sombre, and solemn religious processions and pageants are held in many towns and villages, with statues and costumed, local amateur actors representing scenes from the Passion of Christ. In some parts of Malta, these processions will include a number of penitents dressed in white robes and hoods, walking barefoot (or occasionally with chains tied to their ankles) as an act of penance or in fulfilment of a vow. This is a unique, medieval tradition which still survives today. Easter Sunday in Malta, by contrast, is marked by the incessant pealing of church bells, and festive, fast-paced processions, with the youth of each town running through the streets bearing sculptures of the Risen Christ. ~MALTA~ ZEBBUG Festa San Filep 2018
Hi everyone ! Today we are in Zebbug for the festa San Filep. The festa is one of the best known of this region in Malta. The festa included processions with the statue of San Filep around the streets of Zebbug. The statue ,made of silver was made in the 19th Century and is very unique for the entire use of silver. The square was decorated with banners, pavilions and kiosks. The parish church was decorated with lights and flags while the square was adorned with a huge pavilion infront of the church. In the church there was pontifical mass while at 7pm the processions started going around Zebbug. Hope you enjoyed :)

Festas are Religious Catholic events held in many places around Malta islands. The festa includes pontifical mass, band parties, late night parties, decorations and a procession with statue of the patron saint of the locality.
