Malta International Airport
Malta International Airport (Maltese: Ajruport Internazzjonali ta' Malta) is the only airport in Malta. It is located on island of Malta, between Luqa and Gudja, and occupies the location of the former RAF Luqa. It was completely re-furbished, becoming fully operational on 25 March 1992. It is still referred to by locals as Luqa Airport, and sometimes as Valletta Airport internationally, as it is located 5 km (3.1 mi) southwest of the Maltese capital Valletta. The airport serves as the main hub for Air Malta and a base for Ryanair.

Something about Hal Ghaxaq
The village of Hal Ghaxaq, lies between Gudja and Zejtun in the southeast of the island of Malta. To its south are the valleys of Has Saptan and Dalam. Narrow, winding alleyways lead to Hal Ghaxaq's grand Baroque parish church (1760) that is dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady.
Among the interesting sites in this village are churches dedicated to Christ the Redeemer and St. Philip Neri. Behind the parish church is an interesting old house whose facade is decorated with sea shells and snail shells. The house is called Dar il-Bebbux, that translates to 'house of snails'. Ghaxaq is also the location of one of three Semaphore Towers that were constructed on the Maltese islands in 1848 (the other two are in Gharghur and Nadur, Gozo). Semaphore telegraph was used for visual signalling before the advent of electrical telegraph.

Birżebbuġa - A potpourri of nature, history and mystery
Birżebbuġa lies in the extreme southeast of the island, overlooking the harbour that it shares with the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. The village is popular mainly for its beach at Pretty Bay, however it boasts of several other attractions and places of interest, both natural and historical, with extensive references to the Temple Period, Bronze-Age, the Roman Era, the Knights of St. John and British Periods.
The northern flank of the Birżebbuġa inlet is dominated by St. Lucian Tower[1:54], built by Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt in 1610. Further inland, towards St. George's Bay, is Qajjenza Battery (also called Ferretti Battery)[2:07], built by the Knights of St. John in 1715. In the same year, the Knights also installed St. George's Redoubt[2:37] on the spot of St. George's Chapel[2:31].
A Megalithic Temple (c3000 B.C.)[3:21] overlooks St. George's Bay from the heights of Borġ in-Nadur. The Borġ in-Nadur plateau was subsequently occupied by a Bronze-Age people who built their walled village there (c1500 B.C.). Part of the outer fortified wall still stands today[3:30]. Several bell-shaped silos[2:44] can still be seen on the shore of this bay in which the bronze-age inhabitants stored their grain. In the same area, cart-ruts[3:00] run directly into the sea, evidence that the sea level was much lower in those days.
Two valleys descend towards St. George's Bay: Wied Dalam[4:19] is the location of a spectacular cave called Għar Dalam[5:05], where bones[5:40] were found of extinct species of animals that roamed this land in prehistory. In the area known as Ta' Kaċċatura[6:25], on the ridge that separates these two valleys, lie the ruins of a villa[6:30] dating back to the early Roman period, c150 B.C. with its olive oil production facilities and water cistern supported on twelve columns[6:40]. 'Olive' is 'żebbuġa' in Maltese as in 'Birżebbuġa' - the 'well' or 'source of olives'. The second valley is Wied Ħas Saptan[7:15]. Casa Ippolito (id-Dar ta' Pultu)[7:55] was an impressive country house built inside the valley by Baron Ippolito Novantieri in 1664. Today it lies in ruins, a symbol of a bygone era.
The Knights built Gżira Battery (also called Pinto Battery)[8:40] in 1715/16 on the tip of the small promontory that separates St. George's Bay from Pretty Bay[9:15]. Today a monument dedicated to the end of the Cold War stands nearby[8:32]. The monument commemorates the Bush-Gorbachev Super-Power Summit that was held in the harbour off Birżebbuġa in 1989.
Two other valleys descend onto the southern part of Birżebbuġa. Wied il-Qoton (Cotton Valley)[10:04] in the west lies directly beneath the flight path[10:15] to the main runway at Luqa Airport and Wied il-Buni[10:31], runs along the road from Ħal Far in the southwest. On the rocky shore beneath Wied il-Buni the Knights had built an entrenchment as part of their grand plan for the defence of the island. Part of the entrenchment can still be seen today[10:40] as well as the salt pans[10:57] that were cut on the shore in the same area.
The rugged coastline south of Biżebbuġa rises to sheer cliffs in the west, starting from Wied ix-Xoqqa[11:25] immediately behind the area that is today occupied by the Freeport. This part of the coast was fortified by the British when they built Fort Bengħajsa[13:07] in 1909 to defend the southern flank of Marsaxlokk Harbour. A coastal tower that was built by Grand Master Martino De Redin in the same area in 1659, was demolished at the start of World War II to clear the line of fire from Fort Bengħajsa. Inland from Fort Bengħajsa is the ancient hamlet of Bengħajsa[13:46].
Beyond Fort Bengħajsa, one comes to the small valley called Wied Mixta[14:06], with its two caves, Għar il-Buż[14:22] and Għar in-Nagħaġ (Sheep's Cave)[14:42], also called Għar ir-Riħ (Windy Cave). During the war, villagers from Bengħajsa used to shelter from air-raids in Għar il-Buż. Further along the cliffs to the west, lies Għar Ħasan (Hasan's Cave)[15:43] and beyond, Wied iż-Żnuber [16:07] at Ħal Far, with its solitary ancient dolmen[16:39].
Birżebbuġa became a parish in 1913 and this year celebrates its centenary. The present Parish Church[9:37] is dedicated to St. Peter in Chains and was inaugurated in 1938. The first Parish Church was Our Lady of Sorrows[9:46], built in 1909. The Feast of St. Peter in Chains is celebrated in the village in early August.
This video was filmed mostly during February and March 2013.
