Big Sur Coast Gallery and Cafe Host Segment #1
Coast Galleries was founded by in 1971 by Gary Koeppel who currently owns and operates the business with his wife, Emma. Koeppel designed and built the gallery complex by recycling redwood water tanks that had been salvaged from large municipal water storage tanks, which is regarded as an architectural landmark on the scenic Big Sur Coast.

ANNE GOES TO: Big Sur | yummiebitez
Sorry for being away for a while, but I'm back at it again with another episode of Anne Goes To. This time, I'm roughing it up to Big Sur! Yes, I can do nature and get dirty once in awhile. This is my third time camping (in my lifetime), and it's always a different and fun experience for me. You can watch my very first camping experience on this vlog (

If you guys are not familiar with Big Sur, it's in Central California along the coast via Highway 1. It starts from San Simeon and stretches to Carmel. It's definitely one of the most scenic drives I've ever taken. It's a long and windy drive but the view is breathtaking. I highly suggest you make the drive (in the daytime) at least once in your life.

❖ PLACES (in order of appearance) ❖
Although we didn't get to actually camp in Big Sur, it was still a super fun trip. We manage to find a camp site in Monterey and explored the area. We made our tourist pit stops in Big Sur on the way back home.
» Splash Cafe
1491 Monterey St
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401
- Come here for the clam chowder!
» CA-Hwy 46 passing through Paso Robles
- We missed the 1-fwy entrance via 101 fwy, so we had to cut through the 46 fwy so we could get take CA-1 fwy for the scenic route. However, not regretting this detour since the drive was so unreal with views that I thought were just desktop screen savers. They also have a lot of wineries in this stretch of road. Will definitely want to come back for a wine tasting trip here.
» CA-State Route 1 - Cambria
» Hearst Memorial Beach Pier
750 Hearst Castle Rd
San Simeon, CA 93452
» Big Sur Coast Gallery & Cafe
49901 Hwy 1
Big Sur, CA 93920
- Cute place, but they didn't really have food or wi-fi. But they do carry a local craft beer, Carmel Hefeweizen, and it's really good.
» Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
Big Sur Station
Big Sur, CA 93920
- This is where you want to camp! But reservations fill up quickly, and we didn't do that ahead of time.
» Bixby Creek Bridge
Hwy 1
Big Sur, CA 93920
» Veteran's Memorial Park
Skyline Dr & Jefferson St
Monterey, CA 93940
» Andrew Molera State Park
Big Sur Station
Big Sur, CA 93920
- It's a hike-in campground. Meaning it's a 5-10 minute walk from the parking lot before you can reach your camp ground. Just take that into consideration if you're planning to camp here with all your coolers and camping gear.
» Monterey Bay Kayaks
2390 Hwy 1
Moss Landing, CA 95039
» Asilomar State Beach
1950 Sunset Dr
Pacific Grove, CA 93950

Big Sur Coast Gallery and Cafe Host Segment #3
Big Sur Coast Gallery and Cafe is located on Scenic Highway One on the beautiful Big Sur Coast halfway between Carmel to the north and Hearst Castle to the south. It is situated in a Redwood canyon adjacent to a mountain stream with the Pacific Ocean below and the Coast mountains above.
In this Segment you will learn a little more about the future of the Coast Gallery.
Big Sur Coast by Gary Winzeler
Located on the Big Sur Coast Highway One, the Coast Gallery is a historic retail center, tourist attraction and unique architectural landmark. The four-acre commercial real estate complex is located mid-way between the Hearst Castle and the Monterey Peninsula. The complex consists of three galleries, three shops, Espresso Café, wine cellar and tasting room, the Henry Miller Art Gallery and a private apartment. The improvements are housed in two water tank buildings consisting of 8,800 square feet.
Three art galleries exhibit contemporary fine arts, including the prints of Marc Chagall and Henry Miller and the bronze sculpture of Loet Vanderveen, Jim Hunolt and contemporary California artists.
The Coast Gallery has become the largest known gallery of American Crafts in the United States featuring over five thousand artworks from 250 artisans in every craft medium.
The Coast Café consists of a soup and sandwich café, espresso coffee bar, wine cellar and tasting room. The 100-seat, indoor/outdoor Café has the growth potential to be expanded into a full-service restaurant.
This Miller gallery has been dedicated to the prints and paintings of the late Henry Miller, Big Sur's most prominent celebrity resident. Miller's fame as an internationally known author eclipsed his reputation as a formidable painter during this lifetime.
The Coast Gallery complex is a complex of stand-alone buildings, independent and self-contained with water, fire, security and music systems. The distinctive water-tank architecture provides visitors with a unique, in-the-round shopping experience.

Big Sur is a sparsely populated region of the Central Coast of California where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. Although it has no specific boundaries, many definitions of the area include the 90 miles (140 km) of coastline from the Carmel River in Monterey County south to the San Carpoforo Creek in San Luis Obispo County,[1][2] and extend about 20 miles (32 km) inland to the eastern foothills of the Santa Lucias.More info:
