Santa Barbara (Spanish for Saint Barbara) is the county seat of Santa Barbara County in the U.S. state of California. Situated on a south-facing section of coastline, the longest such section on the West Coast of the United States, the city lies between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara's climate is often described as Mediterranean, and the city has been promoted as the American Riviera.[11] As of 2014, the city had an estimated population of 91,196,[12] up from 88,410 in 2010, making it the second most populous city in the county after Santa Maria[13] while the contiguous urban area, which includes the cities of Goleta and Carpinteria, along with the unincorporated regions of Isla Vista, Montecito, Mission Canyon, Hope Ranch, Summerland, and others, has an approximate population of 220,000. The population of the entire county in 2010 was 423,895.[14]
In addition to being a popular tourist and resort destination, the city economy includes a large service sector, education, technology, health care, finance, agriculture, manufacturing, and local government. In 2004, the service sector accounted for fully 35% of local employment.[15] Education in particular is well represented, with four institutions of higher learning on the south coast (the University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara City College, Westmont College, and Antioch University). The Santa Barbara Airport serves the city, as does Amtrak (most notably the Pacific Surfliner which runs from San Diego to San Luis Obispo). U.S. Highway 101 connects the Santa Barbara area with Los Angeles to the southeast and San Francisco to the northwest. Behind the city, in and beyond the Santa Ynez Mountains, is the Los Padres National Forest, which contains several remote wilderness areas. Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary are located approximately 20 miles (32 km) offshore.Santa Barbara hotels,

The Southern California Coast shot by Tampa Aerial Media
We feature Pacific Beach, Torrey Pines Golf Course, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Santa Barbara in this video of the Southern California Coast.
Pacific Beach in San Diego is bordered by La Jolla to the north, and Mission Bay to the south. The boardwalk, a pedestrian walkway that runs approximately 3.2 miles along the beach from the end of Law St. in the north down into Mission Beach. There are numerous local shops, bars, hotels, and restaurants along the boardwalk, and it is generally crowded with pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers, and shoppers. For more info see
A fly over Torrey Pines Golf Course provides an amazing view of the rich greens overlooking the rocky cliffs of the Pacific Ocean.
Newport Beach, is known for its large, boat-filled harbor as you see on this video. It has become a popular tourist destination with its wine tastings and sunset crusises. For more info see
Huntington Beach located in Orange County is known for its long 9.5-mile stretch of sandy beach, mild climate, excellent surfing, and beach culture. The ocean waves are enhanced by a natural effect caused by the edge-diffraction of open ocean swells around Santa Catalina Island. Swells generated predominantly from the North Pacific in winter and from a combination of Southern Hemisphere storms and hurricanes in the summer focus on Huntington Beach, creating consistent surf all year long.
Santa Barbara is a city on the central California coast, with the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop. Downtown, Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs reflect the city’s Spanish colonial heritage.

West Coast meets the Mediterranean Coast in Santa Barbara.
The region’s unusual south-facing coastline contributes to the balmy temperatures and sunshine evocative of the Riviera, owing to its nickname: the American Riviera.
Situated 90 miles north of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara was the original movie-making capital. Before there was a Hollywood motion picture industry, Santa Barbara was home to silent film studios in the early 1900s. These days, celebrities, writers and producers may not be making movies here but they are making homes here. The area, from the Pacific coastline to the hills of the Santa Ynez Mountains, is populated with A-listers.
The lifestyle is relaxed. Downtown Santa Barbara’s famous brick-lined State Street is loaded with sidewalk cafes, little boutiques and restored theaters. Navigating it by foot is encouraged. Foodies and oenophiles are right at home. An “urban wine trail,” located in an industrial neighborhood-turned-arts-district called the Funk Zone, features tasting rooms representing some of the county’s top wineries.
Stunning estates abound, near the beach or on a bluff. Spanish colonial revival and mission revival marked by arched facades, wrought-iron embellishments, white washed exteriors and red tiled roofs dominate the architecture. Sprinkled among them are late 19th century Victorian homes and classic California bungalows along Santa Barbara’s downtown stretch.
Just to the east are the coastal communities of Montecito, the quiet retreat of the elite with its own private beach, and Carpentaria with its surf-town feel. Less than an hour from the coast in the Santa Ynez Valley are colorful locales like Solvang, the “Danish Capital” of North America and the cowboy town of Santa Ynez. A decade ago, the area got a huge tourism boast from the hit movie, “Sideways,” which was filmed here. It’s prime wine and equine territory. The Santa Ynez Valley is another area of Santa Barbara County that marquee names flock to--or did. It’s the site of Michael Jackson’s famous Neverland Ranch as well as Ronald Reagan’s Rancho del Cielo.
