Hog Island for Sale!
Hog Island (Belle Island) Have your own kingdom on a private island! A set of unique properties are now on the market for someone who really wants to get away from it all. Living and working in densely populated cities means that most of us, sooner or later, crave a life away from noise and people. This group of properties being offered for the first time ever will provide exactly that. Hike, hunt, fish and boat in total seclusion an hour from Disney. Submerge yourself in nature on your own 237 acres of pristine Florida wild country. Venture into the forest and see deer, turkeys, bald eagles, bobcats and even a resident bear. Take your boat out for the day on the St. Johns River, Lake George, or the beautiful springs that are an easy distance away.
Fish in a place so special that people travel hundreds of miles to experience it! Try the excitement of an alligator hunt with one of the experienced guides in George Town. If you want to decompress inside, the island offers 3 totally renovated furnished cottages. They have a total of 8 bedrooms so you can invite your friends and family. Meet your guests on the mainland at your own quaint reception center, which is the oldest existing one room school house in the county (1899) All the locals have fond memories, and stories of their school days in that building and it is a great place to greet your guest, before you take them to your private mainland dock and then on to your private island.
Highlights of the Island are:
Miles of nature trails,
3 cottages ,
A helicopter pad,
Multiple docks (2 are heavy duty),
A wood equipment barn,
3 ponds, bridges, and a gazebo,
A metal equipment storage barn, a large shop and other structures,
All the equipment needed to maintain the Island,
A reverse osmosis treatment plant,
A playground with a playhouse,
All efforts have been made to make the island completely turnkey, unlike most islands; this island has its own connection to mainland power, phones, intranet and wells for water. The island is only accessible by boat, helicopter or float plane.
Also included in the sale are two mainland properties:
An island keeper's residence along with a boat, metal staging barn, and a private heavy duty dock on its own buildable waterfront lot, to access the island.
A lovingly restored one room school house to be used as the Island Reception center,
As is suitable for a hideaway, the island is somewhat remote, but is situated in Florida's best and second largest lake, Lake George, which is also part of the 340 mile long, north flowing St. John's River. The island is nearly equidistant from Jacksonville, Ocala, Orlando, and Daytona with historic St. Augustine being a bit closer. It is bordered on the west side of the lake by the Ocala National Forest and on the east by Georgetown.
Whether this special place is a millionaire's private bolt-hole, a family's compound, a corporate retreat, conservation land, or something else, this is a singular chance to acquire something that is almost impossible to find.
It is a beautiful mostly natural, large private island with its own mainland access and everything is move-in ready right down to the furnishing. The views are absolutely astounding!
Where in the world can you have a large private island (maybe the largest currently available in Florida) with a warm climate, close to a number of cities but out of reach to all of them, with a stable banking and political environment and where you can fish, hunt, crab, farm, build a dream house or just live and enjoy the wildlife in natural splendor and still be about 1 and 1/2 hours from Disney? There is only one place and this is IT!
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park after hurricane Irma: Key Largo, Florida Keys
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park after hurricane Irma in Key Largo, Florida Keys is OPEN! Scuba diving tours are NOT running currently but plan to be in the upcoming weeks or months. The dive shop is also NOT open. The aquarium is NOT open. You will need to call them for details. I will leave all the details in this description including the phone number.
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is the first undersea park in the United States, and encompasses approximately 70 nautical square miles. Located in the fabulous Florida Keys, the park's upland areas offer visitors a unique experience in the mangrove swamps and tropical hammocks. Most visitors, however, are drawn to the park by the coral reefs and their associated marine life. Many enjoy the view from a glass-bottom boat tour; but visitors can also get even closer by scuba diving or snorkeling.
The Visitor Center features a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, nature exhibits and a theater showing nature videos. Nature walks are available along the Mangrove, Wild Tamarind and Grove trails. A 2.5 mile canoe trail winds through the mangrove swamp. Canoe and kayak rentals are available. (While the aquarium is currently not open, kayak and canoe rentals are.)
Underwater at Cannon Beach, artifacts from a 1715 Spanish shipwreck, featuring an anchor and cannons, may be viewed. Marine life, including crabs and fish, may be observed in the seagrass beds.
Picnic tables and grills are located throughout the park. Pavilions are free on a first-come basis, but may be reserved by paying a fee at least 24 hours in advance. Contact the ranger station at (305) 451-1202. Lunch items, gifts and snorkeling equipment may be obtained at the concession.
Reservations are strongly recommended for RVers and tent campers who wish to stay in the campground. Contact Reserve America at (800) 326-3521 or visit ReserveAmerica.com. A group campsite may also be reserved by contacting the ranger station.
Trips to the coral reef are conducted daily aboard a high-speed, stable, air-conditioned, glass-bottom catamaran. Daily snorkeling and scuba [not scuba currently] boat trips are also offered. Call (305) 451-6300 for more information and reservations for boat trips. Instruction for becoming a certified diver is available by calling the DIVE SHOP at (305) 451-6322 [currently closed].
A boat ramp (2) and motorboat rentals are available at the marina.
Marina slips and Largo Sound moorings may be rented overnight.
[Boat rentals, slips and moorings may be unavailable at this time due to Irma so be sure to call for the latest updates.] Contact the dockmaster at (305) 451-6325. To protect the coral, day-use moorings are provided as an alternative to anchoring at the reef.
Nature & History
The park was created to protect and preserve a portion of the only living coral reef in the continental United States. The park extends three miles into the Atlantic Ocean, is approximately 21 miles in length and is adjacent to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
The park is named for one of the early proponents of the preservation of its reef, John D. Pennekamp. Pennekamp was a Miami newspaper editor who also helped establish Everglades National Park.
The park contains a wide variety of tropical vegetation, shorebirds and marine life. The coral reefs are among the most beautiful and diverse of all living communities. Coral reefs are made of tiny animals called polyps. Stony corals, such as star coral and brain coral, secrete a limestone skeleton around their bodies. These skeletons remain after death and provide the foundation for new polyp growth. Octocorals, such as sea fans and sea plumes, are flexible and sway gracefully in the ocean current as they feed on plankton.
Sponges, shrimps, crabs, turtles, lobsters and hundreds of species of fish live among the corals. These reefs occur only in shallow oceans having clear, warm waters. It took approximately 5,000 years for this coral reef to form.
At the reef, snorkelers delight in seeing many colorful tropical fish and corals. Anglers can fish for a wide variety of species in diverse habitats.
Touching or standing on corals may kill them and is therefore prohibited. Anglers will need a saltwater fishing license. Spearfishing is prohibited. Collection of tropical fish is not allowed. No lobster may be harvested from or within any coral formation.

My husband and I, with friends visiting from Salt Lake City, Utah, took a little snorkel trip out to Looe Key Reef.
We saw dolphins, all kinds of great colorful reef fish, turtles, eels, Goliath Groupers, and I even swam with a Caribbean Reef Shark!
On the trip out, I asked one of the crew/guides about the damage to the reef by Irma. He explains.
Also, on the way out we saw Picnic Island and Little Palm Island Resort. They do not look the same after Irma. I show what they look like now and have inserted pictures to show what they both look liked before Irma in all their lushness glory.
You really gotta stay tuned to the end where I show the two Goliath Grouper. One is about 4-5 feet long! These are huge fish snorkelers were swimming with!!!

The Florida Keys and the Highway that goes to the Sea
The Overseas Highway, sometimes called the Highway that Goes to Sea, is a modern wonder. It is the magic carpet by which visitors from Florida's mainland can cross countless coral and limestone islets through that special world of the Florida Keys.
The highway — the southernmost leg of U.S. 1 — follows a trail originally blazed in 1912 when Henry Flagler extended his Florida East Coast Railroad from Miami to Key West.
The highway was begun in the late 1930s & The Florida Keys — which now host more than three million visitors annually — became an easily accessible tourist destination by car and bus.
And what do these visitors see?
Key Largo
Key Largo, called the first of the Florida Keys, because of its northernmost location along the Florida Keys chain, is an hour's drive from South Florida's two major airports. Yet it is a world away.
Home to two state parks, a national park, a national marine sanctuary, Key Largo boasts some of the most fascinating botanical scenery in the state.
Also visit the 'African Queen, the boat made famous in the Humphrey Bogart film of the same name.
Islamorada
Our Village of Islands is situated between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park in one direction and North America's only coral barrier reef and the deep blue waters of the Florida Straits in the other.
This might be the only place on Earth where it is possible to catch a sailfish in the morning, and then venture into the backcountry in pursuit of bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish in just inches of water.
With a fleet of highly-skilled recreational fishing captains, Islamorada's reputation as The Sport Fishing Capital of the World is well earned.
Marathon
This quaint tropical city is conveniently situated in the middle of the Keys island chain.
Located mainly on Vaca, Fat Deer, and Grassy Key, Marathon is a 10- mile-long family-oriented island community rooted in a heritage of fishing, and reflects the old-Keys lifestyle that residents, snowbirds and visitors enjoy so much.
It is maintaining this simple, seafaring tradition that has made Marathon so special, celebrated through the community's annual family-friendly seafood festivals.
Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys
If you've had enough of an overcrowded and weary world, the islands of the Lower Keys are the place for you.
Here, you can snorkel or dive over the Looe Key coral reef, ride a bicycle through Key Deer country, or take a fishing adventure in the back country or troll the deep blue waters beyond the reef.
At the end of the day, you can trade stories with family and friends at one of this area's tiki bars, RV parks, campgrounds, quaint resorts or licensed vacation homes. The Earthy fragrance of mangrove forests and wetlands is never far away.
Key West
Discover a city where real estate titles date back to the Kings of Spain.
Stroll the palm-lined streets and discover gingerbread mansions, tin-roofed conch houses, the John Audubon House and Ernest Hemingway's home.
Walk in the footsteps of Thomas Edison, Lou Gehrig, Harry Truman, and Tennessee Williams.
Gaze at the fabled treasure of the galleon Atocha. Discover tomorrow's fine art treasures by Key West's well-known and unknown artists

HOLIDAY INN KEY LARGO WALK AROUND PIANO BAR POOLS AND RESTAURANTS
HOLIDAY INN located in Key Largo Florida was a five-minute walk from my house and I spent many days and nights on the location described in this video.
In regards to foods, they had only five-star chefs and the highest quality foods.
In regards to the pools, they were always kept in immaculate condition as were the entire grounds of the hotel property itself.
HOWEVER the best part about Holiday Inn is it was right in the heart of Key Largo and the best restaurants and best food available is less than a five-minute walk from the hotel.
There were also jet ski rentals right behind the Holiday Inn all day and half day fishing boats and of course an entire array scuba diving or snorkeling adventure tours.
Holiday Inn is located at mile marker 100 and directly across the street from WENDY'S RESTAURANT.
Prices start at about $300 per night during off season and during season about $550 per night.
HOWEVER if you want the best food you we ever eaten you need to take a 10 minute walk across the highway to the Bayside Grill and Café which is directly across the street from NAPA FOR the PARTS, then you will for sure thanked me if you take that 10 minute walk because not only is it the best food but it's the best prices and it's on the Bayside whereas you can watch the sunset over the ocean or rather the goal of Mexico, and there is always a been laying at what we call the Sunset FESTIVAL which happens every day at sunset.

Marathon Key, Florida - Camping & Travel VLOG #9
#Florida #camping #nature #beautiful #travel #fitness #adventure
Marathon is a 10-mile-long family-oriented island community conveniently situated in the middle of the Keys island chain, comprised mainly of Vaca Key, Fat Deer Key and Grassy Key.
Residents, snowbirds and visitors enjoy Marathon’s fishing heritage, an old-Keys lifestyle and seafaring traditions, a theme celebrated in the area’s accommodations, such as private waterfront vacation homes, small hotels, beachside inns and tropical, family-style resorts; and annual seafood festivals and waterside restaurants that harvest fresh fish, lobster and stone crab claws from local waters.
For anglers, waters teem with offshore billfish and tuna in the winter, bridge-hugging tarpon in the spring and dolphin fish in the summer.
A Marine-Friendly City
Marathon is one of the Keys’ most marine-friendly cities with nearly 1,200 wet slips, 1,200 dry slips and major facilities to accommodate transient cruisers.
Marathon City Marina, considered the Keys’ jewel for cruisers, administers 226 mooring balls and has limited dockage. Both mooring balls and dockage are available by the day, week or month.
There are also special mooring and managed anchorage fields in Boot Key Harbor as part of a statewide environmental protection pilot program. Boats on a mooring ball do pay a fee.
Other features include two dinghy docks, storage, private showers and bathroom facilities, social center, coin-operated laundry and parking.
Florida Keys Marathon International Airport busily accommodates a full range of services for general aviation enthusiasts and corporate jet operators. Two full-service FBO’s offer fuel, maintenance, tie-down, pilot and passenger facilities. Ground transportation options are available including an airport shuttle, car rental agencies and taxi service.
Spectacular Boating
Marathon offers spectacular sailing, fishing, world-class wreck and reef diving and snorkeling, in addition to the island’s impeccably maintained beaches, eco-attractions and marine-based educational programs.
Iconic learning centers with educational focus where visitors can enjoy unique interactive experiences include The Turtle Hospital, which was the world’s first licensed veterinary hospital dedicated to the treatment of sea turtles, and Dolphin Research Center, a not-for-profit education and research facility since 1984.
Immersive Experiences
Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters features a coral reef exhibit and a predatory fish habitat housed in a 200,000-gallon interconnected saltwater aquarium.
Visitors can enjoy an immersive, interactive experience where they can touch, feel and feed reef fish, invertebrates, stingrays and even sharks.
At Crane Point Museum, Nature Center & Historic Site, visitors can hike through a wondrously preserved tropical hardwood grove and visit the home of an early 20th-century settler family.
Visitors to the five-acre Pigeon Key venture back in time to experience a tiny island that once served as a home base for workers building the Florida Keys Over-Sea Railroad.
A federally protected section of the United States’ only living coral barrier reef lies just a few miles offshore, at teeming formations such as Delta Shoals, Coffin Patch and Sombrero Reef, shallow sites popular for students learning to scuba dive.
In the deeper blue waters of the Florida Straits lie artificial reefs and the purposely-sunk wreck of the Thunderbolt.
On the north side of the island lie the calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Florida Bay and the Keys backcountry.
