Sanctuary Exploration Center
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center is a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster stewardship of the region's marine ecosystem. Just steps from the ocean, the two-story, 12,387 square-foot center, located in Santa Cruz' famed beach area, functions as the sanctuary's premier interpretive facility. Our guest, Lisa Uttal, Sanctuary Exploration Center Interim Director, describes how interactive exhibits connect people with the water, geology, ecosystems, and the extraordinary diversity of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Exhibits include the Exploration Theater, a walk through a kelp forest, intertidal touchpool, open-ocean mini-theater and a replica deep-sea canyon with a remotely operated vehicle.

Our Nice, Mini Outing To Santa Cruz, CA (2-1-2018)
In this video, it shows our nice, spontaneous trip to Santa Cruz, CA taken place on Thursday, February 1, 2018. It was Regina, Chris, my cuzz & I that went on this trip to Santa Cruz...
Our outing in summary:
We left San Jose by early afternoon. Once we arrived to SC, we ate lunch at the Habit Burger Grill along Ocean St. The weather out was unusually warm & pleasant for the area. After enjoying our delicious burgers, we headed to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk & parked at the public parking. We walked thru the arcade areas, took in some of the seaside views & walked around & checked out a couple of the souvenir stores around the boardwalk. We even checked out the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center. It was like a piece of Monterey in SC! Afterwards, we walked along W Cliff Dr taking in the stunning views of the Monterey Bay. We stopped at the lighthouse located around the Lighthouse Field State Beach. The sun was slowly starting to set over the Pacific at this time. We then decided to head back since we didn't wanna get caught out in the dark. However, as we walked back a few ways, we went down a flight of stairs to check out the surrounding beach. We also saw a lady making drawings on the sandy beach with a rake. We then walked all the way back to the parking and we decided to drive up back to the lighthouse to take in the sunset. This was my favorite part of the day, a sunset by the sea! Once the sun had set, we called it a day & quickly headed back home... with the crazy evening rush hour waiting for us once we got back to the city. It was a fun day by the sea with my crew!

Kone EcoSpace Traction Elevator at Sanctuary Exploration Center in Santa Cruz, CA
Kone KSS 500 fixtures. This elevator has a machine room, but I think the motor is in the shaft, and the controller is in the machine room (usually the controller on MRL elevators is in the shaft/a cabinet next to the shaft doors, does California code not allow this?). This is the first elevator I have been on with the new Kone voice. Multielevatorman has also filmed this elevator.

MBNMS Your Sanctuary, Episode 4 - The Power of Film
We have all experienced the power of a good film - they have the ability to move us. Environmental films were just beginning to hit television when Jacques Cousteau captured the world with National Geographic's Undersea Voyages. That early virtual experience changed many lives. Today, ocean and wildlife programs abound. Many fascinate us, some surprise us, while others inspire us to take action. Internationally acclaimed filmmakers Greg MacGillivray, Bob Talbot, and Mark Shelley contribute their wisdom, ocean philosophy, and gorgeous video clips. Bob Talbot reveals tantalizing images from the upcoming MBNMS Exploration Center exhibit in Santa Cruz. Mark Shelley discusses his newly released Otter 501 and renowned Ocean Champions Sylvia Earle and Greg MacGillivray discuss OneWorldOneOcean in a piece with glorious footage from beneath and above the waves.
