2013.08.14, Arthur & Debbie Windsor hiked to the top of Lembert Dome. This is a terrific objective in Yosemite National Park and my most memorable. A nice sense of accomplishment reaching the summit along with 360 degrees of great views. The Rim Fire started just 3 days later. Filmed and edited by Sheety33. Lembert Dome is a granite dome rock formation in Yosemite National Park in the U.S. state of California. The dome soars 800 feet (240 m) above Tuolumne Meadows and the Tuolumne River and can be hiked starting at the Tioga Road in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows, 8 miles (13 km) west of the Tioga Pass Entrance to Yosemite National Park.
Lembert Dome was named for John Baptist Lembert who took up a homesteader in a section of Tuolumne Meadows in 1865.
Rock climbers can scale the face from the parking lot just off the Tioga Road, but hikers can simply walk up the back side or take the challenging steeper trek up the face starting from just east of the parking lot.

Lembert Dome in Yosemite National Park
One of California's most formidable natural landscapes, Yosemite National Park features nearly 1,200 square miles of sheer awe: towering waterfalls, millennia-old Sequoia trees, striking, daunting cliff faces and some of the most unique rock formations in the United States. But despite its enormous size, most of the tourist activity takes place within the 8-square-mile area of Yosemite Valley. Here you'll find the park's most famous landmarks – Half Dome and El Capitan – as well as excellent hiking trails through the natural monuments. Even inexperienced hikers can enjoy Yosemite: Guided tours and climbing lessons are available from local adventure outfitters. Just don't expect to experience it by yourself. Lembert Dome Hike: Yosemite National Park
The hike to Lembert Dome is relatively easy at a total distance of 2.8 miles round trip, beginning at an elevation of 8,500 feet with a total altitude gain of 800 feet. The views from the top of Lembert Dome are fantastic, especially on a clear day.
Lembert Dome is a granite dome rock formation in Yosemite National Park in the U.S. state of California. The dome soars 800 feet above Tuolumne Meadows and the Tuolumne River and can be hiked starting at the Tioga Road in the heart of Tuolumne Meadows, 8 miles west of the Tioga Pass Entrance to Yosemite National Park.
Lembert Dome was named for Jean Baptiste Lembert, sometimes mistakenly referred to as John Lambert, who took up a homestead in a section of Tuolumne Meadows in 1865. By 1879 the Wheeler Survey referred to it as Soda Springs Dome. John Muir called it Glacier Rock.

Hiking to Lembert Dome in Yosemite
Unlike Half-Dome, you don't need a permit to climb up Lembert Dome. The crowd factor is minimal and the views are spectacular! This is a must do hike if you want to see gorgeous views of domes, peaks a lakes. You can combine this hike with Dog Lake as well.
-2.8 miles (4.5 km) round-trip, 850-foot elevation gain; 3 hours r/t.
-Dog Lake and Lembert Dome: 4 miles (6.4 km) round-trip; 4 hours
-Begin at the Dog Lake parking area (shuttle stop #2, just west of Tuolumne Meadows Lodge).
The trail rises steeply for 0.75 mile to a signed junction. Turn left to reach the top of Lembert Dome for a spectacular view of Tuolumne Meadows and surrounding peaks. To reach Dog Lake, continue straight at the junction. Allow four hours for a leisurely four mile (6.4 km) roundtrip visit to both Dog Lake and Lembert Dome.
