CALIFORNIA: The historic Santa Barbara Courthouse, USA
SUBSCRIBE: - The Santa Barbara Courthouse, California. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Santa Barbara is a city on the central California coast, with the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop. Downtown, Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs reflect the city’s Spanish colonial heritage. Upscale boutiques and restaurants offering local wines and seasonal fare line State Street. On a nearby hill, Mission Santa Barbara, founded in 1786, houses Franciscan friars and a museum.
California, a western U.S. state, stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific for nearly 900 miles. Its terrain includes cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the Mojave Desert. The city of Los Angeles is the seat of the Hollywood entertainment industry. Hilly San Francisco is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island and cable cars.
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History
We’re not your typical structured museum with stiff curators, cold halls, and strict rules. We like to go outside and get our hands dirty, pick things up and take a closer look, laugh, skip, or maybe even jump for joy. Because learning is messy and we all learn by doing, not sitting. That’s why we offer a different approach to discovering the natural world: one where you’re free to wander, ask “silly” questions, and explore on your own terms. And when you come here you’ll see we’re a museum unlike anything else. In a nutshell, we’re naturally different.
Hotel Santa Barbara - Rolland Jacks | Fabric of Santa Barbara
In 1975, Venetia and Rolland Jacks went against everyone's advice and purchased a seedy, rundown residential hotel in Santa Barbara, California. Forty years later, they not only have transformed their hotel into a beautiful vacation destination, but helped improve the ambience and environment of the 500 block of State Street. This is their story.
Special thanks to the Santa Barbara Historical Museum and Tamara Erickson for sharing photo images.

Museum Tour with James O'Mahoney in Santa Barbara California
A behind the scenes look at the nether-regions of the Museum & the Santa Barbara Surfing Museum with one of the most interesting people on the planet, James O'Mahoney. Interview by Dan Levy - Juice Magazine.
O’Mahoney is a surfer, skateboarder, hang glider, pilot, collector, photographer, race car driver, stunt man, safari survivor, patriot, adventurer, competitor and a world class waterman. “O” is also one of the first skateboard media moguls, the keeper of the great Pete Peterson surfboard, king of the U.S. Skateboarding Association. and the World Skateboarding Association, mastermind behind the legendary Signal Hill skateboarding races, proud owner of the “Apocalypse Now” surfboard and a rebel with too many causes. He is the man responsible for getting the word skateboard in the dictionary and the organizer of the first World Records for skateboarding, amongst too many other firsts in skateboarding to mention. Here’s to “O” – a true hero and icon.
You can find James O'Mahoney at the Santa Barbara Surfing Museum most days, and a visit to this treasure-filled paradise should be on everyone's list of things to do. It will blow your mind!
Knapp's Castle Santa Barbara, CA Walkthrough
Today I took a small hike up to Knapp's Castle and had a look around. This is a really unique place and it is a short hike for pretty much anyone. I shot the video using the #Kodak #PixPro360 and my #iPhone6plus with the #indiesolo smartphone stabilizer from #gripgear. Hope you enjoy my video and please head over to my website and enter your email address so you stay up to date on everything that I am working on. Stay tuned as there is a lot of cool new videos coming soon!
Here is some info and history from Wiki:
George Owen Knapp, founder of Union Carbide, built Knapp's Castle shortly after purchasing the 160-acre (0.65 km2) parcel in 1916. In 1940, Frances Holden bought the property and invited her friend, world-famous opera singer Lotte Lehmann, to move in. The mansion was destroyed by a forest fire only five weeks later, and now only the massive sandstone foundations, fireplace pillars and walls of the original seven structures remain intact. The parcel is still privately owned but open to the public.
In January 2011, the site was undergoing new construction by the property owner, with a stone amphitheatre-style addition, some reinforcements, and other work. The county ordered a stop to the construction due to a lack of permits, but the construction equipment remains on site.

Santa Barbara California History and Cartography (1877)
Santa Barbara California history and cartography is explored and examined from this vintage map that was originally produced in 1877. In the video we look at historical elements that make this map so great. The map itself is a birdseye perspective map in that we see building architecture, changes in elevation, streets, vegetation and much more.

INSIDE LOOK: Santa Barbara County Mudflow Recovery
Following the largest wildfire in California state history, a massive mudslide and debris flow in the burn scar area of Santa Barbara County tested first responders and residents alike. In this Inside Look, we go behind the scenes to see how Law Enforcement Mutual Aid continues to help the areas in need. We also hear from a first responder who describes what it was like the night of the mudslides, and a major milestone for two areas affected by the October Northern California wildfires.
Historical Santa Barbara, CA
Historical Santa Barbara is a very old town with a pretty harbour, wonderful pier with restaurants, and one we tried and loved.
The main street - State Street has many boutique shops, restaurants and cafes, but also an electric bus service. We visited some of the historical sites such as Old Mission, Presidio and the Museum Area. An easy town to walk around.
We stayed in Carpinteria (there is a bus service from here right into Downtown Santa Barbara) which saved the complication of driving and parking.
The Carpinteria beach goes all the way to Santa Barbara and is beautiful to walk on, and swim at. Little cold for us in November though.
Santa Barbara Natural History Museum
Santa Barbara Natural History Museum is a great place to visit with your kids when visiting this part of Southern California. It’s packed with loads of local information and wildlife.
Just 2 hours drive north of Los Angeles, this coastal location is the perfect getaway for anyone seeking a beautiful beachside getaway with easy access from Los Angeles. Santa Barbara enjoys pleasant temperatures all year round aka Mediterranean climate and has lots of gorgeous Spanish architecture.
Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is located right behind the Old Santa Barbara Mission so it’s a good idea to see this right before or after the Mission. Outside the museum, there’s a 74-foot Blue Whale skeleton. Once inside visitors are treated to several exhibit halls where they are shown all about the wildlife, topography and human history of Southern California, especially the Santa Barbara region.

Places to see in ( Santa Barbara - USA )
Perfect weather, beautiful buildings, excellent bars and restaurants in Santa Barbara California, and activities for all tastes and budgets make Santa Barbara a great place to live and a must-see place for visitors to Southern California. Check out the Spanish Mission church first, then just see where the day takes you.
Santa Barbara has a range of neighborhoods with distinctive histories, architectures, and cultures. The Mesa stretches 2.5 miles (4.0 km) from Santa Barbara City College on the east to Arroyo Burro County Beach (or Hendry's/The Pit to locals) on the west. The Mesa embodies a beach vibe. The neighborhood has beach access to Mesa Lane Beach, as well as Thousand Steps Beach. Mission Canyon contains the wooded hilly area beginning at the Old Mission and extending along Foothill Road, north and east into Mission Canyon Road and Las Canoas Road.
The Riviera encompasses an ocean-facing hillside and back hillside extending for approximately two miles, with the north side extending from Foothill Road to Sycamore Canyon Road, and the south side from the Santa Barbara Mission to North Salinas Street. The Westside (west of State Street) lies predominantly in the lowlands between State Street and the Mesa, including Highway 101, and also reaches down to Cliff Drive, incorporating Santa Barbara City College.
The Eastside (east of State Street) is generally the area east of State to the base of the Riviera, and includes Santa Barbara Junior High School, Santa Barbara High School, and the Santa Barbara Bowl. The Waterfront comprises roughly commercial and tourist-oriented business structures along Cabrillo Blvd including Stearns Wharf, the Santa Barbara Harbor and the breakwater, and extending East toward the Bird Refuge and West along Shoreline Drive above the SBCC campus West.
Upper State Street is a residential and commercial district that includes numerous professional offices, and much of the medical infrastructure of the city. San Roque is located northwest of the downtown area and north of Samarkand. This area is said to be a constant 5 degrees warmer than the coastal areas, due to its greater distance from the ocean than other Santa Barbara neighborhoods. The name Samarkand comes from an Old Persian word meaning the land of heart's desire. It was first applied to a deluxe Persian-style hotel that was converted from a boys' school in 1920. Samarkand later became identified as its own neighborhood located between Las Positas, State Street, De La Vina, Oak Park and the Freeway.
