2 Step Beach Snorkeling, Big Island, Hawaii
2 Step Snorkeling location in the Kona region of the Big Island, Hawaii. 2 step refers to the rock steps used to get into the ocean. On the day I went the weather was pretty good and the water was clear. It is rocky when getting in and no sand, so if you have water shoes that is better or just wear your fins early.
There were a number of tourists and divers with everyone getting in and out in the same location, which created a traffic jam.
I snorkeled in a number of locations on the island and this location is unique in that the water is very deep with coral all around.

Shore Diving Big Island, Hawaii - Old Airport Dive Site | Kona Honu Divers
Some of the best shore diving on the big island is found in Kona Hawaii, and local Kona dive shop, Kona Honu Divers ( can give you a guide to the best shore diving big island tips & trips! Old airport dive site is great diving and it's about a 5 minute drive from the shop! It's well protected from the usual NW swell so it's a good option when sites like puako are not diveable. We took Laura Roberts of Dread Pirate Pottery along for a great shore dive. Old Airport dive site has some nice perks. Arches, blue water pelagic fish, and nice coral are just a few of the highlights. Old airport beach park is also a fantastic place to have picnic lunch after the dive with shower and restroom facilities along with shaded benches for chillaxin

Free Diving South Point Hawaii Big Island tropical waters with Gopro Hero 3 HD
This is some footage of my friend and I free diving at the most southern Part of the united states known as south point located on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The water is around 35-60 feet deep where we are swimming and crystal clear. Sadly there were not much fish the day we went out but we did get to see a spotted eagle ray who was looking for a snack himself. Overall we had a blast and the water was warm!

EPIC Hawaii Snorkel: Big Island Snorkeling HD
Take a look at this HD action camera footage from several days of snorkeling in the Big Island, Hawaii. Primarily from Two Step and Kahaluu Beach Park, in addition to Hilton Lagoon and Mauna Kea Beach. Stick around for the end to enjoy the beautiful sea turtles (don't touch!). I have traveled to each of the main islands of Hawaii and the snorkel experience on the Big Island is definitely at the top!
Kahaluu Beach is definitely one of the easier places to snorkel, Two Step has much more coral but the water is much deeper.

Hawaii Sea Camp Session 1
Here's a look at what we've been up to for the last two weeks at Hawaii Sea Camp. Every summer, teens from all over the US come here to learn scuba diving in the beautiful waters surrounding Kona on Hawaii's Big Island.

Session 2 at Hawaii Sea Camp was the best yet with 14 kids from all across the US learning how to scuba dive, free dive; cliff-jump and bodysurf in the beautiful waters surrounding Kona on Hawaii's Big Island! Don't miss the breath-taking manta ray night dive at the end.
Learn in paradise!
Set in stunning Captain Cook, Hawaii,Hawaii Sea Camp is geared toward young people who are interested in the marine environment, either for recreation or as a prospective career. We run scuba certification, snorkel and marine science programs for four two week sessions during the summer, and for customizable time slots year-round. All levels of PADI certification are offered up to Master Diver, including Open Water referrals (for those just getting started), Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver. Teens can choose to specialize in a variety of skills including underwater photography and videography, deep diving, search and recovery; night diving, etc.
Once the certifications are achieved, HSC campers participate in tropical marine science programs in partnership with the University of Hawaii, helping collect data on marine life to better understand the state of Hawaii's reefs. Next, an excursion is always made to any number of beautiful spots on the Big Island - whether it's bodysurfing at green sands beach, cliff jumping from the southern most point in the US or camping in the stunning Waipio Valley, adventure is our priority!
Each two week session finishes with the manta ray night dive - rated by many sources as the best night dive in the world. You have to see it to believe it.
Not only does Hawaii Sea Camp guide junior high, high school, and college aged students toward their goals in the marine science environment, but strives to instill a sense of pride and leadership that makes them better stewards of our precious oceans.
Aloha!

Snorkeling Hawaii’s Big Island
Filmed at Kahalu'u Beach Park and Honaunau Bay-Two Step (proper name: Pae'a).
Two-Step is really amazing.
Hawai'i has 75% of all the coral in the United States. Over 5,000 species of tropical fish, of which over 500 are found only in Hawai'i, making snorkeling and diving very special.
Hawai'i island often called the Big Island, is the largest and tallest of the main Hawaiian islands. It is 95 miles long (N-S) and 79 miles across (E-W), with a total area of 4,028 square miles. Its land area is larger than all the other islands combined. Its highest elevation is 13, 796 feet at Pu'u Wēkiu on the Summit of Mauna Kea.
