Upper Yosemite Falls (Yosemite National Park, CA) Review
This was Mike's first visit to Yosemite in his adult hiking life and decided to do the Upper Yosemite Falls trail with his family. This is one difficult hike! The mileage may not sound intimidating (out and back at 7 miles) but believe me this one is STRENUOUS. The trail is available all year. It is pretty much up the whole way. It starts at Camp 4 along the Valley Loop Trail, and takes you through forrest regions that eventually open up exposing brilliant panoramas of the Yosemite Valley. This crazy switchback adventure opens up beautifully exposing you to the falls up close and personal. Mike talks about the falls how they are so powerful and breathtaking (though the drought may have affected it now). You can photograph Half Dome and Yosemite Falls in the same frame on this hike, absolutely breathtaking.
At the top of the Yosemite Falls Trail, you can extend your hike east to Yosemite Point (follow signs for North Dome; adds 1.6 miles roundtrip (2.6 km) to this hike) or west to Eagle Peak (follow signs to El Capitan, adds 5.8 miles roundtrip (9.3 km) to this hike)(Lots of switchbacks the views are some of the most amazing views.
Top of Yosemite Falls Distance: 7.2 miles (11.6 km) round tripElevation: 2,700 ft (823 m) elevation gain
Difficulty: R
Time: 6-8 hours round trip
Begin at: Camp 4 area (near shuttle stop #7 and El Capitan Shuttle stop #E2)
Bottles of water: at least (3) 1.5L or more
Animals: Prohibited

#Visit Tunnel View and stand before a panorama that’s reduced generations of visitors to silence. The Yosemite Valley ring road follows the banks of the Merced River, which shifts in character as it thunders from the valley walls, before gently winding across the valley floor. The ring road is dotted with trailheads that lead to 800 miles of hiking trails.
Drive along Tioga Road, one of the USA’s most scenic highways. Fill your lungs with alpine air at Olmsted Point, refresh yourself by the waters of Tenaya Lake, then spend the day at Tuolumne Meadow, the traditional summer hunting grounds of the Ahwaneechee.

Top 5 Must-See Attractions in Yosemite | National Geographic
By placing Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove under federal protection in 1864, Abraham Lincoln paved the way for what would later become California's Yosemite National Park. See the tallest waterfall in North America, massive sequoia trees in Mariposa Grove, and endless wildlife throughout the park. From mountainous vistas to valleys of wildflowers, it is clear why this sprawling wilderness has awed and inspired the likes of John Muir and Ansel Adams.

Hiking to the top of El Capitan was my bucket list for a long time ever since I saw El Cap when I visited Yosemite for the first time back in my college days. I still remember vividly the awestruck sensation I felt when I saw the looming monolith in the Yosemite valley. Along with Half Dome, El Cap is a famed icon for many rock climbers just like Mt. Everest for mountaineers.
The hardest part of El Cap hike via Yosemite Falls Trail takes place for the first 3.2 miles of Yosemite Falls trail trekking up and up the rocky and slippery granite trail gaining 2,700 feet elevation. However, no pain, no gain. The reward at the top of El Cap is unforgettable....breathtaking panoramic views of Yosemite Valley and High Sierras. It's a must do hike if you want to stand on the top of El Cap unless you are a hardcore rock climber to be able to scale the vertical face of the iconic monolith of Yosemite!

Yosemite Falls - Yosemite National Park
California travel expert Veronica Hill of offers a guide to Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park.
Named Cholock by the native Ahwahneechee Indians, Yosemite Falls have three tiers. The Yosemite Falls height is a total of 739 meters from top to bottom. They are the tallest waterfalls in North America, according to official measurements, though that title is somewhat under dispute.
To reach Upper Yosemite Falls, you can hike 3 1/2 miles from the Yosemite Falls trail at Camp 4. Lower Yosemite Falls are easily reached on a short paved trail near the Lodge at Yosemite Falls. This short Yosemite Falls hike is roughly a mile, round trip.
Some interesting Yosemite Falls facts - The natives believed that evil spirits called Poloti lived in the plunge pool at the base of the falls.
Formed by Yosemite Creek, the Falls often dry up by late summer, so it's best to view them in full force during the spring. SUBSCRIBE!

Yosemite Falls | Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is home to countless waterfalls. Yosemite Falls (2,425 ft) is the tallest waterfall in North America, and is a powerful presence in Yosemite Valley. From winter ice to spring flood to autumn dryness, this magnificent waterfall is a dynamic force of nature.
The best time to see waterfalls is during spring, when most of the snowmelt occurs. Yosemite Falls flows approximately November through July, with peak flow in May. Look for the ice cone at the base of the upper fall during winter and for roaring runoff April through June. Yosemite Falls, is actually made up of three separate falls: Upper Yosemite Fall (1,430 feet), the middle cascades (675 feet), and Lower Yosemite Fall (320 feet).
You can see Yosemite Falls from numerous places around Yosemite Valley, especially around Yosemite Village and Yosemite Lodge. A one-mile loop trail leads to the base of Lower Yosemite Fall (the eastern side of the loop, from the shuttle stop to the base of the waterfall, is wheelchair accessible). It's also possible to hike to the top of Yosemite Falls as a strenuous, all-day hike
Yosemite National Park covers nearly 1,200 square miles of mountainous terrain in the Sierra Nevada of California. From high peaks and deep canyons to ancient forests and quiet meadows, the diversity of the world is on display here. At Yosemite you can see the tranquillity of the High Sierra, the power of glaciers, giant sequoia groves, thundering waterfalls, clear streams and much more. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is also home to hundreds of wildlife and plant species. Two Wild & Scenic Rivers, the Tuolumne and Merced rivers, begin in the park and flow west to the Central Valley. Visitors experience the park's 800 miles of hiking trails and 282 miles of road.
Hikers take notice of the enormous granite mountains from the 8,842-foot Half Dome to the 13,114-foot Mt. Lyell-Yosemite's tallest peak. Glaciers add into the mix with the Maclure and Lyell still intact.
Overall, the park's widespread coniferous forests--with a relatively mild climate and a mixture of plant species--provide a lush habitat for animals to live. Wildlife species typically found include mule deer, black bear, bobcat, gray fox, mountain kingsnake, Gilbert's skink, white-headed woodpecker, brown creeper, spotted owl, and a wide variety of bat species. Black bears in Yosemite are active both day and night.
Plants: Move up or down in elevation and feel as though you are in another park. Vegetation changes from oak woodlands to chaparral scrublands to lower montane to upper montane to subalpine to alpine. Those who step into the alpine zone can see krummholz whitebark pines and perhaps a western juniper or mountain hemlock.
TRAVEL & TOURISM
Yosemite is open all year, though some areas of the park are inaccessible by car from approximately November through May due to snow.
Distances and Driving Times From: San Francisco/Bay area (195 mi, 4-5 hours); Sacramento (176 mi, 4 hours); Reno & Lake Tahoe (June through October, conditions permitting, 218 mi, 5 hours/All year, 315 mi, 8 hours); Los Angeles area (313 mi, 6 hours); San Diego area (441 mi, 8 hours); Las Vegas (June through October, conditions permitting, 642 km, 8 hours / November through May, 797 km, 8-10 hours)
Drivers can enter Yosemite National Park by several routes:
From the West and Most Scenic: CA Hwy 140
This route is by far the most scenic drive into Yosemite National Park and the best way to go if you're visiting for the first time. It's open most of the time and passes through the towns of Mariposa and Fish Camp. It's also a popular route for people driving to Yosemite from the San Jose area.
From the West: CA Hwy 120
Open most any time, this route goes through Oakdale and Groveland and is often used by visitors from the San Francisco Bay area and northern California. It passes through fruit and almond orchards, small agricultural towns, fruit stands and ranches in the rolling foothills before ascending sharply up the Priest Grade to Big Oak Flat and the old gold mining town of Groveland.
From the South: CA Hwy 41
From US Hwy 99 at Fresno, Hwy 41 runs north and west toward Yosemite's South Entrance, which takes you through the towns of Oakhurst and Fish Camp and into the park near the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias and Wawona.
From the East: CA Hwy 120 and Tioga Pass
To find out more about traveling this route, average opening and closing dates, check the guide to the Tioga Pass.
From the East: Other Mountain Passes
Other mountain passes that can get you across the Sierras near Yosemite include the Sonora Pass (CA Hwy 108), Monitor Pass (CA Hwy 89) and Ebbetts Pass (CA Hwy 4). Snow may also close these routes in winter, but they are sometimes open when Tioga Pass is still snow-clogged.

FIREFALL - Yosemite Horsetail Falls
Firefall is one of Yosemite National Park most amazing spectacles.
Around the second week of February, the setting sun hits Horsetail Falls at just the right angle, to illuminate the upper reaches of the waterfall, and when conditions are perfect, Horsetail Falls glows orange and red at sunset, giving the illusion it’s on fire.
As the sun sets, and dips behind the horizon line, everything will begin to go dark and it will seem, for a moment, as if the Firefall has failed to ignite.
But as the last of the sunlight disappears, it will hit and reflect off the falls at the exact right angle, creating a spectacular if short-lived effect, that looks like a beautiful flowing cascade of fluid fire.
The phenomenon known as Firefall draws scores of photographers to a spot near Horsetail Fall, which flows down the granite face of the park's famed rock formation, El Capitan.
Thanks for watching

My video contains my original song God's Water by Dave And The Wolf Rock Band
The description John Muir gave of Yosemite Falls in his book The Yosemite is still accurate today:
The Yosemite Fall is separated into an upper and a lower fall with a series of falls and cascades between them, but when viewed in front from the bottom of the Valley they all appear as one. So grandly does this magnificent fall display itself from the floor of the Valley, few visitors take the trouble to climb the walls to gain nearer views.
Yosemite Falls hikes - Yosemite Falls can be seen from many places in Yosemite Valley. There is a wonderful short nature hike to the base of Yosemite Falls. The hike to the base can be extended to a longer loop. I highly recommend hiking the entire loop which is still a very easy level hike - easy loop trail in Yosemite National Park.
There is also a hike to the top of Yosemite Falls. The hike to the top of Yosemite Falls is very difficult.

Yosemite National Park - Yosemite Falls (2019)
Yosemite National Park is not only packed with endless adventures such as Yosemite Falls Trail; Yosemite is a place that has humbled humans and commanded a deep level of respect for all of know history. Yosemite National Park is located in the Western Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. This mountain range is home to massive granite peaks, Giant Sequoia Trees, and the main feature of our hike today - The TALLEST WATERFALL in North America - Yosemite Falls. There are actually two sections of this particular waterfall due to its enormous size. (upper and lower) Our hike today will focus on the Upper Falls Trail. This 7.2 Mile trail will climb from the valley floor to the top of the waterfall gaining 3,175 ft. Of elevation. This hike is difficult and proper preparations should be taken before embarking on the climb. The entire hike is filled with amazing views of Yosemite Valley, chances to see wildlife, and remains slightly less crowed due to the difficult climb. With that being said about 4 million people visit Yosemite National Park annually, so per usual, D’n’A Ventures recommends arriving in the park and staring your hike early in the day. Also this hike is mostly exposed and your hiking on granite, it gets super hot and can be very dangerous in storms. Unfortunately, people have passed away attempting to climb the falls. You're climbing up 3,175 ft and have access to many sheer cliffs. Please use caution and play it extra safe. The views from the top are guaranteed to take whatever breath away you have left from the intense climb. The access point to the Falls overlook is gnarly, composed of a single use handrail and a narrow stair set that walks you down the face of a cliff. If you're looking for a hike that pumps your adrenaline, tests your endurance, and offers some of the best views of Yosemite National Park from atop the tallest waterfall in North America; Then D’n’A Ventures highly recommends The Upper Yosemite Falls Trail.
