Exploring Little India in Paris France (From Food to Stores)
I'm in Paris France but am still exploring Indian areas. Well sorta. I'm visiting the India neighborhood of Paris today. I'm checking out the Indian grocery stores here, the restaurants, an Indian sweet shop, and even a sari shop. There's a lot to see even as a tourist here in Paris France.

La Défense, Paris
La Défense is a major business district of the Paris aire urbaine. With a population of 20,000,[1] it is centered in an orbital motorway straddling the Hauts-de-Seine département municipalities of Nanterre, Courbevoie and Puteaux. The district is at the westernmost extremity of Paris's 10 km long Historical Axis, which starts at the Louvre in Central Paris and continues along the Champs-Élysées, well beyond the Arc de Triomphe before culminating at La Défense.
Around its 110-metre (360 ft)-high Grande Arche and esplanade (le Parvis), the district holds many of the Paris urban area's tallest high-rises. With its 77.5 acres (314,000 m2), its 72 glass-and-steel slick buildings including 14 high-rises above 150 metres (490 ft), its 180,000 daily workers and 3.5 million square metres (37.7 million sq ft) of office space, La Défense is Europe's largest purpose-built business district.
View of Paris from Saint-Cloud (Stern Garden)
France was having a country-wide Garden Weekend, so gardens held special events, and gardens normally not open welcomed visitors for three days.
Saint-Cloud is just over the Seine on a West side of Paris, and from times of the Monarchy has been important. Sèvres porcelain, movie studios, rich estates and a steep terrain give it unusual aspects and points of interest. Somewhat stodgy, quirky, wealthy, but also simply old and with aspects of decay, Saint-Cloud is now easier to reach thanks to a tramway, but really, it's never seemed to worry about being very accessible in modern times.
Ms. Stern was a painter and her home overlooking Paris was fairly recently classified as being of historical interest. On this clip, you can see how Paris really is in Le Bassin Parisien, a bowl if you will, making it a place of rather unhealthy air -- the Western and Southwestern heights were generally considered the desirable places to live, for good reasons (health and aesthetics).
You can see an RER train here, but you can also get here by taking a métro (MOLITOR is one possibility) to the Seine and a city bus from there, or you can also take a tramway from La Défense. Via automobile, you are likely to find traffic a headache.
I worked in Saint-Cloud for awhile in the '90s, and from Saint-Denis where I live, it was a long commute with many transfers. From Saint-Cloud, a royalty route allowed for travel to Versailles and other points without having to enter Paris. I have several clips up on the Internet of a good museum in Saint-Cloud. I always feel a bit unwelcome there, which I find interesting. So much is locked away behind sturdy gates and walls.

Lyon, France - a first impression
Lyon has some of the atmosphere of Paris but on a smaller scale. It is a very vibrant city with much to offer both the residents and tourists in its shopping and hotel facilities. The street markets along the river bank and the museums with specific interests such as, film, la resistance, art, and a fascinating one showing miniature film sets, are of international standard. It is also a major centre for antiques. For us, the Hotel Celestins was central and its owner gave us information above and beyond the call of duty. The restaurants vary from Michelin class to lower tourist, the best one we found is shown in the video. The atmosphere here was typically French, as were the diners, the food was simply excellent and terrific value for money. For those with children needing to burn off some energy then take the C5 bus from outside the Post building, next to the Place Bellecour, up to the Parc de la Tete d'Or. It has a zoo, botanical garden, lakes, miniature train and just about everything an outdoor person could need. And, with French hospitality, is absolutely free. If you are a tourist who has to superficially 'DO' a country or city, as if adding to a trophy list, then this might not be the place for you. However, if you have the adventurous spirit of an explorer then it most certainly is your kind of place, because it is a city where the intelligent visitor can immerse themselves in a culture and history that is truly, and most wonderfully, French.
