THE HYPE IS REAL: Lofoten Islands, Norway
Lofoten Islands, Norway - The Lofoten islands off the northern coast of Norway, are home to some of the most beautiful and rugged stretches of landscape I’ve ever seen.
Our journey to Lofoten actually started in the city of Bodø, where we spent the day exploring the city and the saltstraumen maelstrom before catching the ferry from Bodo to Lofoten (Moskenes).
-
The saltstraumen is one of the best things to do in Bodo, as it is a small strait that connects the sea and a fjord with one of the strongest tidal currents in the world.
This wild whirlpool of boils and vortex’s happens when tides change and water funnels through the strait.
-
From our basecamp in Sorvagen, we have two days to explore the best things to do in Lofoten, on the southern islands, before needing to report to the capital city of Svolvaer for a dream event.
Our first stop is on the southern end of Moskenes Island at little fishing village called Å - Once a town that specialized in stockfish, it’s main income now is tourism, although, there isn’t many people around this time of year - which is actually one of the big reasons why we came in March.
-
Next up, its the oldest and perhaps most picturesque fishing village in the Lofoten Archipelago - Hamnøy
-
And just a few minutes back down the E10, is Reine. The 69-acre village is the administrative center of Moskenes Municipality, has a population of 314 people, and it’s major lifeline is very easy to see - and smell.
Cod or Skrei, is known as the Norwegian Miracle.
Skrei comes from one of the world’s largest and most sustainably managed cod stocks.
Although it doesn’t seem like it here, only 10% of over 400 million migrating cod are caught and branded skrei.
All over the Lufoten islands between February and May, you’ll see an endless supply of drying cod on these giant wooden racks.
They’re left out here for about three months, before being brought inside to mature for up to another 12 months.
Stockfish is the countries longest sustained export commodity, going all the way back to the viking days.
-
We also stopped at Anita's for her classic fish burger and finished the day at Ramberg beach (Rambergstranda).

2018.05.19 - Stoltzekleiven, Norway
Amazing view over Bergen in Norway from the top of Stoltzekleiven.
VisitBergen:
Stoltzekleiven in Bergen city center is a steep paved trail and stairs with approximately 722 steps up to Sandviksfjellet. Stoltzekleiven is one of the most popular trails in Bergen.
Enjoy this hard but short popular hike from Fjellveien up Stoltzekleiven.
The tour is divided into two parts with a challenging and an easy leg. The first part of the walk is mostly steep stone stairs. The more you climb, the better the view you get. The trip is suitable for both children and adults, but the hike is not recommended in winter when it can be slippery.
You will find the start of Stoltzekleiven by Fjellveien 13, about 30 minutes’ walk from the city center.
From the top of Stoltzekleiven you have beautiful views of Sandviken and Byfjorden.
The trail is quite narrow and is a one way street going up. From the top you have several options but the most common route is to continue to Mount Fløyen.
From the top continue straight ahead a couple of minutes until you come to a lake. Do not go over the bridge but turn right. From there, follow signs to Fløyen. It takes about 40 minutes. From Fløyen you have stunning views over the city and from here you can take the Fløibanen funicular down to the center or walk down (40 minutes). Follow signs to City center and Fløysvingene and you will come down by Fløibanen’s bottom station.

Places to see in ( Ulm - Germany )
Places to see in ( Ulm - Germany )
Ulm is a city in the south German state of Baden-Württemberg, founded in medieval times. In the center is the huge Gothic Ulm Minster, a centuries-old church. Its steeple has views of the city and, in clear weather, the Alps. The Town Hall has an early-Renaissance facade, murals and a 16th-century astronomical clock. Half-timbered houses line the narrow alleys of the Fischerviertel, an area close to the River Danube.
On the Danube in Baden-Württemberg, Ulm will forever be synonymous with its epic minster. The city, also the birthplace of Albert Einstein, is a heady juxtaposition of Medieval and modern: Dating back hundreds of years are the city’s walls by the Danube and the quarter where fishermen and tanners used to live.
The half-timbered houses and traditional German restaurants on these streets clash with avant-garde new monuments to replace architecture lost in the war. And back to that minster, which soars over everything else in the city. Until the 1900s this church was in the top five tallest buildings in the world and has enough room for 20,000 worshippers.
To set the scene, Ulm Minster has the highest steeple in the world, is officially the tallest complete church in the world and coming into the 20th century it was the 5th tallest man-made structure. From the tower, 768 steps and 143 metres up, there’s a panorama of the Alps far in the distance to the south. Ulm Minster was started in 1377, but partly because of its extreme dimensions was only officially completed in 1890. In the western portal take a moment to study the tympanum, filled with 14th-century carvings of scenes from the book of Genesis.
Where the channels of the Blau Stream enter the Danube is the Medieval waterside quarter for Ulm’s tanners, fishermen and shipbuilders. The neighbourhood reached its zenith in the 1500s when trade on the Danube was roaring. As a testament to this high demand, the streets are tightly packed with cantilevered timber-framed houses, some so close to each other that they sometimes touch in front, like on the appropriately named Kussgasse (Kiss Alley).
What could be the cutest building in Ulm is the Schiefes Haus, a rickety inn from the start of the 15th century. The museum for bread culture has an apt home in a Renaissance granary that was built in 1592 and was in use until the start of the 19th century.
Some way south of Ulm, near the confluence of the Iller and Danube Rivers, is a former Benedictine Abbey of Wiblingen Abbey, now a department of the University of Ulm. Coated with trompe-l’œil frescoes, Ulm’s majestic old town hall has an Early Renaissance design and is composed of three buildings, the oldest of which dates back to the 1370. The oldest architecture is on the southeast side of the complex, while the gables and daintily ornamented windows are from the 15th century.
If you’re up for a restorative stroll you could make for the Danube bordered by a long remnant of Ulm’s defensive walls. One unforgettable element in the defensive system by the Danube is the Metzgerturm (Butchers’ Tower), a gate predating the current line, going back to 1340. The tower got its name as an opening had to be made in the wall to make it easier to reach the city’s slaughterhouse, which was built outside the walls.
In four adjacent houses on Ulm’s Marktplatz, the municipal museum is unmissable for its Gothic and Renaissance sculpture, but also a prehistoric statue that has no equivalent in the world. Take the Central Library, opposite the Old Town Hall and Minster, designed by Gottfried Böhm and in the shape of a glass pyramid.
That wave of architecture has given Ulm a private contemporary art museum. The Kunsthalle Weishaupt opened in 2007 in a cube-shaped building designed by Wolfram Wöhr. Under the Minster’s sky-scraping spire is another modern addition to Ulm’s cityscape.
The gleaming white Stadthaus by New York architect Richard Meier is an attention-grabbing landmark that opened in 1993.
Ulm’s zoo might be on the small side, but has a variety of regional and exotic animals for kids to get close to. At a spacious 28 hectares, Ulm University’s botanical garden is one of the largest in the country. Ulm’s annual city holiday falls on the penultimate Monday of July.
( Ulm - Germany ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Ulm . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ulm - Germany

Porsgrunn, Telemark
Video: 12 April 2019
Porsgrunn is a city and municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Grenland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Porsgrunn. The municipality of Porsgrunn was established on 1 January 1838.
Bilfinger Industrial Services Norway AS, Equinor, RHI Normag AS, Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik, Isola AS, BEHA, Eramet og Norcem er andre viktige industrielle aktører i Porsgrunn.
Wintermarket in Siena, Tuscany
A holiday in one of our holiday homes in Siena, Italy, is the perfect chance to explore the beautiful Italian region Tuscany. For example, visit the winter market in the large plaza in the center of Siena, where the famous 'Palio de Siena', a large horse race where the different municipalities compete twice every year. There are so many things to see all around Tuscany that you could not experience everything in a lifetime. Visit local markets where original hand carvings made by local artists, delicious homemade cheeses, dried meats, and other local produce is commonly found. The winter market is a large and lively place, and an event you should not miss. Book a holiday villa near Siena, and experience one of the most beautiful, and most famous cities of art in the world. It is considered to be up there with Firenze, Lucca, Pisa, and San Gimignano. It is worth mentioning that some of the city's most stunning art pieces are found in the Cathedral in Siena. It is constructed from black and white marble, and is a Gothic architectural wonder. You also should not miss the 'Palazzo Publicco', which has been located centrally in Sienna since 1297. The palace is richly decorated with chalk artworks, and the outstanding red cobblestone used throughout. The 102 metre tall tower was added on later, in 1325-1344. If you are looking for experiences with art and music, Siena is the perfect cuty for you. The beautiful art museum ‘Pinacotece Nazionale di Siena’ displays works from the 13th until the 16th century. You can also find the oldest bank in the world in Siena, ‘Bancha Monte dei Paschi’, which was founded in the 'Palazzo Salimbeni in 1472. We have not yet touched upon many of the interesting attractions in Siena, but for anyone who wants to experience an earlier time, and who maybe have an interest in art, Siena will come across as a beautiful and interesting city with a sense or detail, and an a great place to book a holiday home.
