The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983. The Cabrera Archipelago is administratively grouped with Majorca (in the municipality of Palma). The anthem of Majorca is La Balanguera.
Like the other Balearic Islands of Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the island is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly for tourists from Germany and the United Kingdom. The international airport, Palma de Mallorca Airport, is one of the busiest in Spain; it was used by 23.1 million passengers in 2014.
The name derives from Latin insula maior, larger island; later Maiorica, the larger one in comparison to Minorca, the smaller one.
Topography
Majorca is the largest island of Spain by area and second most populated (after Tenerife in the Canary Islands).
Majorca has two mountainous regions, the Serra de Tramuntana and Serres de Llevant. Each are about 70 km (43 mi) in length and occupy the north-western and eastern parts of the island respectively.

Mallorca Top 5 Attractions / Must Sees [4K]
Mallorca Top 5 Attractions:
1. The Caves of Drach
- The Caves of Drach (lit. Dragon caves) are four great caves that are located in the island of Majorca. The caves extend to a depth of 25 m and reach approximately 4 km in length. The caves have formed by water being forced through the entrance from the Mediterranean Sea, and some researchers think the formation may date back to the Miocene Epoch.
2. Cap de Formentor
- Cap de Formentor forms the eastern end of Majorca's Formentor peninsula. The Majorcans also call the cape the Meeting point of the winds. Cap de Formentor is a spectacular place, located on the northernmost point of the Balaeric Island Majorca in Spain. Its highest point, Fumart, is 384m above sea level. It has many associated bays, including Cala Fiquera, Cala Murta and Cala Pi de la Posada.
3. Sa Calobra
- Sa Calobra is a small village in the Escorca municipality on the northwest coast of Majorca. The port village is a popular destination for coach trips and road cyclists and is accessible by a single winding road, designed by Italian engineer Antonio Parietti, which features many hairpin bends and a spiral bridge.
4. Clear blue water and beaches (my favorite beach: Caló des Moro)
- Caló des Moro is a beautiful virgin beach with crystal clear water, 6 Km from Santanyí, in the Southeast of Mallorca. Only 30 m wide and flanked by rocky cliffs and pine trees, Caló des Moro is largely unknown, even to locals and excellent for diving and anchoring small boats.
5. Es Pontàs
- Es Pontàs (The big bridge in catalan language) is a natural arch in the southeastern part of the island of Mallorca.[1] The arch is located on the coastline between the Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards in the municipality of Santanyí.

Visit Cala Ratjada on the Island of Mallorca, Spain
Cala Ratjada is the bay of rays is a small fishing harbor with only 2,500 inhabitants. During summer even as many as ten times go around this small cliff inlets surrounded by pine trees, the fishermen returns to the harbor with their catches in the afternoon. But this time, distraught workers and housewives stands in cue for fresh goods. In July, a spectacular ship parade is held on the day of Saint Peter and Paul in honor of the fishermen's patron saint.
The nearby quaint small town Cap de Vera offers us the largest and most intact remaining fortress of the island. The main road helps us to avoid the capital on our way to the beaches west the beach of Palma.
Mainly tourists from Great Britain come to Mallorca which is part of Palma Nova where they can use their flat rate holiday coupons. The March Family Residence is located nearby on the top of the hill. On March a businessman accumulated his great riches under suspicious circumstances is one of the ten richest men in the world. He was born in South Mallorca in Mayorca and also died in the island. He wasn't the only millionaire in this land, but the only one who was born here.
Several British and American investors built hotels, private clubs or Villas here. Robert Grave, the famous writer of the best seller I Clothe Us live here and was also buried here. Calvian and Mother Loove is the most brightest and most illustrious holiday resort in Spain.
Here is the only casino of Mallorca as well as the largest disco tech in Europe. The submarine Nemo departing from the harbor of Marhalouve is the perfect solution for those who prefer to admire the underwater world and still stay dry.

Alcudia (Puerto Alcudia) is one the most popular resorts in Majorca located on the north east corner of Majorca in Spain. Alcudia is located about 59 km. from the capital city Palma de Mallorca.
Puerto Alcudia (Port d’Alcudia) is the port, beach, tourist and accommodation area of Alcudia town and it is located about 1,8 km. from the old town of Alcudia.
Alcudia, with its port area, has a population of ten thousand, which in summer swells to ten times that figure. A superb stretch of beach and good hotel facilities account for this growing summer influx.
Alcudia´s historic city centre
The centre of Alcudia still preserves the character of a historic town, having said that the name Alcudia derives from the former Muslim Al Kudi, and although the first settlements date back to the Pretalaiotic period (2.000 - 1200 BC) the city was founded in 1325 by King Jaume II on the site of the mentioned islamic farmstead. A highlight of its history was the prosperous ancient Roman city of Pol-lentia (123 BC), situated only a few metres from the old town, which is indeed worth a visit. Today´s city preserves the medieval street layout, define by its wll enclosure. The streets house numerous buildings of high architectual value are narrow ans irregular-a testimony of the city´s history.
The small alleys all over the old town is the best attraction of Alcudia. Most of them are peaceful and will give you great photo opportunities although some of them are very narrow and there will be always someone coming the other way :)
The most interesting among them was Carrer d’en Serra also part of the old Arab quarter
the gates
The old town of Alcudia used to have 3 different gates and hopefully you can still see 2 of them.
Coming from Palma we parked the car outside and walked inside the walled city through the main gate (puerta Principal). The massive towers gives you a picture of how this old town was anyway centuries before when during the 14th century when King Jaume II founded the new town of Alcucia.
