Royal Air Force station Newton or more simply RAF Newton (ICAO: EGXN) is a former Royal Air Force station located 7 miles (11 km) east of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and 10.7 miles (17.2 km) south-west of Newark-on-Trent, England
It was used briefly as a bomber base for squadrons to re-equip after the Battle of France and then as a flying training school during the Second World War and beyond until 2000.
Built in 1939, Newton was assigned to No 1 Group in June 1940. On 3 July 1940 No. 103 Squadron RAF moved from RAF Honington with their Fairey Battles before changing to the Vickers Wellington IC in October 1940. On 11 July 1941 the squadron moved to RAF Elsham Wolds, also on 3 July 1940 (the same date when 103 Squadron arrived) No. 150 Squadron RAF arrived from RAF Stradishall again initially with the Battle before changing to Wellington IA during October 1940 however later in the month the Wellington IC was introduced to the squadron. The squadron left on 10 July 1941 going to RAF Snaith.
Newton then became a training base, and for the next five years between July 1941 and December 1946 No. 16 (Polish) Service Flying Training School provided basic and advanced training for Polish airmen serving with the RAF, using RAF Tollerton as a satellite landing ground.
The station badge featured the Polish Eagle holding a flaming torch in each talon with the motto Docemus et Discimus which translates as We teach and we learn, reflecting the Polish training role in the Second World War.
The station had also become the home of the newly formed Nottingham University College Air Squadron in 1941, providing newly trained pilots for the RAF. During the 1960s Newton was home to an Air Experience Flight of de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk aircraft which were used by local squadrons of the Air Training Corps. The East Midlands University Air Squadron continued flying at Newton, with Scottish Aviation Bulldog aircraft, until moving its flying activities to RAF Cranwell in 2001. In the latter years, civilian-operated Slingsby Fireflies were also based at Newton for basic military training on behalf of RAF Cranwell.
The RAF Newton site is, according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD), contaminated with Radium. The contamination comes from Radium that was used to coat the dials of aircraft and other equipment so that they could be seen in the dark. It was in scrap burned and dumped in the 1940s and 1950s and remains radioactive for thousands of years.
Today the site is a private industrial estate and the buildings are being converted into offices and storage space. The old control tower still stands and is being renovated into offices; the grass airfield has reverted to agriculture with some RAF planes still there for the eye to see. Nottinghamshire Police use parts of the site for public order, a method of entry and big police dog training.
The abandoned houses on the base were used to film scenes from the film This is England. It has also been used for the television series Robot Wars after it transferred to the commercial UK channel Five.
The site is located within Nottingham's Green Belt.
Now the site features over 550 new homes.

Keep up to date with the restoration here:
Balintore Castle is a Victorian category A listed building. It was designed in 1859 by the architect William Burn. The castle suffered from dry rot and was left abandoned. Angus Council used its compulsory purchase powers to buy it from its absentee Far Eastern owners, and it is now in the hands of David Johnston who intends to restore it.

Strawberry picking, New York, June 2016
One of my favorite outdoor activities in summer is picking fresh fruits. Strawberry has been found as a type of fruit that contains a multitude of health benefits. Plus, eating them fresh is much more delicious than the one at the store. :-) Why not come out and experience the taste of fresh strawberry at your local U-Pick farm?

MX691 Motocross and ATV Track and Trails Tiverton RI 2017 07 08 N4
So far the best place to ride in New England. Just some common sense rules to sign and a donation you can afford and you're good to ride with some nice people in a great area. It is in Tiverton RI at 671 Brayton Rd. Plus next month they're going to have a Hare Scramble. Who wouldn't love that!
this is their facebook page
First the good, My son and nephew, who is just as much my boy too went for our first ride in Tiverton RI, at the MX691 Motocross and ATV Track and Trails. The place is a haven in an area where it is difficult to find a place to ride. Raymond who runs the place is the nicest guy and I even woke Zach out of a slumber to get information from him too. I go there and I was very happy that they're running on donations, so $10 for kids and $15 to $20 for adults (what you can afford) is a really fair price to ride.
There was a lot of rain the past three days before we rode, but overall only 3 or four puddles on the mini bike track (saw some 250s riding it, so it isn't that mini, just for those of us that aren't fliers). The big one day supercross track was in good shape, some water ruts, but still fun.
I ran around through the woods, not knowing where I was going and still had a good time. They are challenging and fun.
Raymond opens the place up from 11 am till 5 pm most days and some days later. It's at the back of natural materials recycling area, which is a perfect mesh for riders. I can't wait to go again, maybe without the kiddos. They enjoyed, but were kinda whiny about my wrong turn in the woods. I blame that on Craig and Tim.
Now the bad, RI collects hundreds of thousands of dollars from sales tax of dirt bike, atv, orv, and other off-road vehicle sales, but provides no place to ride. The RI Law best I can tell have laws on the books to register orvs and then allow them places to ride, but there is nothing happening. So, if you are an RI rider get out to MX691, make a donation, ride and help get this place into top shape so many riders can come and enjoy it.
Forgive me for my riding and the camera work, both of us were rusty and the adhesive took a beating in the heat. They just wouldn't hold up. Also if you crash my facebook photos, you can see about 650 stills as I had the camera on the wrong mode half the time.
This is my nephew's footage after not riding for a long time and he did very well. It won't be too long before he's schooling me too. The camera started to lean to the right, but you can make out the terrain and see how nice this place is going to be soon and get an idea of the conditions and hills in his first few passes.
The 3M Dual lock just doesn't hold 10 pounds of pressure like they say. This camera had regular hook and loop fastener and it did much better, but still some lean.
Noah had the best runs and the cleanest video angle. Great job boy!
