New-Gate prison & Copper Mine ~ Granby, Ct.
Finally got up here to check this place out. Have seen a few vids of this great old prison & copper mine and decided to fully explore it during the off season and when no tourists would be there. To me, the brickwork was amazing and the vibe of this prison was nothing less than historical and you get a feeling of what it was like to be incarcerated back in the day. Had fun on this explore and this video is just my fun take on such a fantastic site. Happy Exploring
Ride the State - New haven, CT to Southwick, MA
The Farmington Valley Trails Council, Farmington Canal Rail to Trail Association and the East Coast Greenway Alliance teamed up to host a 56-mile bike ride to draw attention to the remaining gaps in the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail on Saturday, June 25 from New Haven, CT to Southwick, MA, the majority of which is on the extensive trail system with only a few sections on carefully selected local roads. East Coast Bike Trails was there to cover the day. The ride begins on the New Haven Green and passes through 11 Connecticut towns before it reaches Southwick, MA. Most of the trail provides off-road travel providing a safe system of linear parks that can be accessed at multiple points. The trails serve multiple positive purposes for their communities and the surrounding region. Only two gaps remain – in Cheshire and the Plainville area.
The trail passes through the following towns: New Haven, Hamden, Cheshire, Southington, Plainville, Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, East Granby, Granby, and Suffield. Connecticut DEEP and Connecticut Department of Transportation are working together to expand the trail system making use of trails more attractive for residents and visitors to Connecticut.

Mountain Biking the Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor, Maine
Today we are visiting the stunning Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Much to my chagrin there is no mountain biking on the island, but of course that wasn’t enough to stop me from finding an excuse to ride. Way back in the early 20th century a vast network of crushed stone roads were built throughout Acadia National Park for the use of hikers, horse riders, and most importantly, bikers. No cars allowed thank you very much. These trails, commonly referred to as the “Carriage Roads” are in my option one of the coolest ways to experience the park, soak in its beautiful features all while pedaling your little heart out.
But I wasn’t alone for this adventure. My wife and our good friends Jon, Judy, and their daughter all saddled up for our 20 mile, five and a half hour tour of the Carriage Roads.
Along the way we stopped at a handful of the beautiful, granite bridges built throughout the carriage roads. Each one was individually designed with the intent to both blend into the background and be a work of art to admire all on their own.
Once you are done checking out the bridges be sure to plan ahead so you can grab lunch at the Jordan Pond House. This restaurant is right inside the park, has a sweet name, and the expectedly fantastic views are matched by delicious food and drink.

Wallingford, Connecticut sits astride the Quinnipiac River in northern New Haven County. It is the home of a large variety of industries and major corporations spanning the spectrum of the medical, health care, service, hi-tech specialty metal manufacturing and research development. The development of the Barnes Industrial Park, Casimir Pulaski Industrial Park, Wharton Brook Industrial Park, and the South Turnpike Road area have contributed greatly to the community's economic expansion. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, the Town's largest taxpayer, has established a research and development facility in Wallingford's MedWay Industrial Park.
