Fun Free Things To Do In Provo
Provo “Welcome Home” is the third largest city in Utah and it is consistently recognized as one of the best places to live, work and play in the United States.
Bridal Veil Falls: Bridal Veil Falls is a 600-foot-tall waterfall nestled in the southern end of Provo Canyon. Easily reached by car or by trail on a bike or by foot. The best way to see Bridal Veil Falls is going to Bridal Veil Falls State Park. This spacious recreational area sits about 3.5 miles away from the entrance to Provo Canyon and has picnic tables, a paved pathway, and barbecue grills. There is a scenic walkway that passes in front of the waterfall. Great for kids and adults.
Museum of Peoples and Cultures: he Museum of Peoples and Cultures at Brigham Young University houses anthropological, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from past and present times. Located on BYU campus, the goal of the museum is to inspire BYU students and the public toward an understanding of and appreciation for people from around the world.
Brigham Young University Museum of Art: This is one of my favorite. I used to go here at least once a month when I lived in Provo because the exhibits were constantly rotating. It’s home to ten exhibition galleries, classrooms, an auditorium, a gift shop, and a theater.
Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum. My husband has been going here since he was a kid and it is my daughters favorite museum in Provo. the museum contains a vast collection of plants and taxidermied animals. Each exhibit aims to educate the public about the bodies and behaviors of animals as well as ways for people to protect the environment. They also have live programs.
Hike the Y. An easy albeit steep trail runs from the east side of Provo up to the block Y on the mountain. It is a very popular hike for college students and families. From the Y you get great views of the Provo area and Utah Lake. I love this hike and have done it numerous times. Last time my husband went out of town though I tried to do it by myself with the two kids by myself and my daughter would have none of it. We didn’t even make it out of sight of the parking lot. At least it was a pretty day and we grabbed ice cream after at Mora Iced Creamery
Okay this one is not technically in Provo but excuse the liberty I am taking by suggesting you go see Roots of Knowledge is a permanent stained glass display completed in 2016 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, United States. The creation of the exhibit was designed and overseen by stained glass artists Tom Holdman and Cameron Oscarson. It took over 12 years and cost US$4.5 million to complete. Honestly if you are anywhere NEAR you Utah you should come see this. I have gone over a dozen times by myself, with people from out of town and with my family. I will continue to go every chance I get. Each time you see something different and miraculous.

Hiking Shenipsit Trail, Shenipsit State Forest, Connecticut
Hiking the Shenipsit Trail in -- what else? -- Shenipsit State Forest, in Connecticut. I started at Sodom Road on CT-190, in Tolland County between Somers and Stafford Springs, south to CT-140, climbing all 300 ft. of Soapstone Mountain along the way. It was very green, but the #flowerporn was unfortunately Rated G. The next day, it was off to Stafford Motor Speedway for an Endurance Karting race!

9/11 National Memorial -- 2011 (4 Days After 10th Anniversary Opening)
We visited the new National 9/11 Memorial 4 days after it was opened to the public in the early evening on 9/15/11. After 10 years, the site is still under construction. There are many security checkpoints. One World Trade Center, (still under construction) will soar above NYC at 1,776 feet to be America's tallest building, designed by David M. Childs. The Memorial Pools are placed in the footprints of World Trade Center 1 & 2. The sound of the waterfalls are intense. The North Pool (WTC 1) was very wild, the water was falling fast and multidirectional, spraying so high we got soaked. We hope the speed of the water can be adjusted to slow down... since it did not have a calming effect in this form.
We brought a dozen roses to place on 12 names.

Jeanmarie Wallendorf was one of the two names I was seeking out. I first saw a Missing Persons Flyer of her 10 years ago at the Union Square Memorial. I was taken by how sweet and young she looked. After I took a photo, I spotted the Flyer in many locations around the city devoted to finding the Missing.
As dusk became night, finding her name was not easy, and finally I resorted to using the Computer. Her name is located on Panel S-36 (at the south east corner of the South Memorial Pool)

Brooke Jackman was the second name I was seeking out. I also saw on a Missing Person Flyer of her 10 years ago.
I found Brooke's name at the North Memorial Pool.

Age: 23
She was an Assistant Trader at Cantor Fitzgerald (they lost 700 employees that day) She worked on the 104th Floor.
Brooke was a giver, volunteering her time to work at soup kitchens, a school or the disabled, and a thrift shop that benefited cancer patients. She even won an award in 1996 from the Nassau County Executive for scholarship and service.
Brooke had a deep love of reading and a profound interest in helping children.

Time Lapse: Portland, Maine through 5 States to Montréal, Québec
July 15, 2017 - They said it couldn't be done...but they were wrong!
In just six hours I traverse through five states (and one Canadian province)! Starting in Portland, Maine, I took the long way back to Montréal through New Hampshire, Massachusetts (at the very fringe of the Boston metro area), Vermont, and the northeast corner of New York state back to La Belle Province of Québec.
Along the way I take a few side trips to Old Orchard Beach, Maine; a few Fallout 4 references as I briefly touch upon the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; getting lost looking for lunch in White River Junction, Vermont; a quick drive-through of Burlington, the largest city in Vermont and stomping ground to Senator Bernie Sanders; and finally, visiting the lake monster Champ on the shores of Lake Champlain on the Vermont/New York border.
Once back in Canada on a beautiful Saturday evening, I pass through downtown Montréal, pay homage to my Montréal Canadiens of the NHL at their home arena, the Bell Centre, and then out west to Dorval, near the airport, for my final night away on this adventure.
