There are, in fact, many fascinating and beautiful places to live that are quite affordable. On that note, here are 11 of the cheapest places to live in New York.

TBEX North America 2018 Finger Lakes Wine Country, New York State
TBEX North America 2018 will take place in the Finger Lakes Wine Country in New York State, USA - September 11-13th 2018. TBEX is the largest community and gathering of travel bloggers, travel writers, travel influencers and travel content creators in the world. The TBEX conference will take place this year, September 11-13th 2018.
Video transcript:
- - [Narrator] This is Laury Poland, President of Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Marketing Association based in Corning, New York. And we are looking forward to hosting TBEX North America 2018, September 11th through 13th. We are a rural area in upstate New York about five hours from New York City. Easy flight, though. But we don't have a traditional event space, and so the Corning Museum of Glass, which houses the largest collection of glass in the world, will be our home for TBEX North America in September. The Corning Museum of Glass is pulling out all the stops to make sure that this educational, enjoyable, and exciting conference will be everything that TBEX participants are looking for. There is so much to do and see in Finger Lakes Wine Country. Corning, being the central location, is really the hub of Finger Lakes Wine Country. If you go a bit east, you're in Tioga County with the Tioga Downs Resort and Casino and some excellent antiquing and beautiful outdoor scenery. A little closer in, about 10 minutes from Corning, is Elmira and the Elmira Corning Regional Airport, probably the easiest way to get into Finger Lakes Wine Country with flights through United, Delta, and Allegiant Air. In Chemung County near where Elmira is located is also referred to as Mark Twain Country. Samuel Clemons, Mark Twain, did all of his writing in Quarry Farm, which was owned by his wife's family. His sister-in-law built him a beautiful octagonal study, which is located on the campus of Elmira College, open to visitors who want to have a piece and a feel for some amazing American literary history. Also, in the Chemung Elmira area, it's the home of soaring. It is the motorless flight capital of America, and our visitors are gonna be able to take glider rides over the Chemung Valley. And in September, if Mother Nature cooperates and the colors start to change, there's no better view anywhere than in a glider high above the Chemung Valley and Finger Lakes Wine Country. Right here in the Corning area we've got historic Market Street. We refer to as the Gaffer District. A gaffer is a glass blower, so of course the name is apropos for the glass history of our region. The photo opportunities just alone on Market Street will be overwhelming. We also have the Rockwell Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, which lends a great deal of art in the American history, which is especially important to art and the history of America right here in Corning. A little further west is Keuka Lake. You have Hammondsport, the birthplace of aviation with the Glenn Curtiss Museum and all of the transportation innovation that he came up with, from biking, cycling, motorcycles, airplanes, dirigibles. Everything you can think of to get you from one place to another, Glenn Curtiss had something to do with. Up on Keuka Lake, Dr. Constantine Frank came here in 1958 and started the vinifera revolution that created Finger Lakes Wine Country. But today, we now have 140 wineries, dozens of breweries, distilleries, cideries, meateries, creameries, chocolatiers, everything and anything any taste buds would look forward to. A little further north, you'll be visiting on opening night Watkins Glen International, the home of American road racing. This is not an oval track. This has got twists and turns that add to the excitement of professional NASCAR and IMSA road racing, and we, all of us, every single one of us, will go around the track at Watkins Glen International when we celebrate the opening of TBEX North America 2018. In Yates County we have Penn Yan and the northern part of Keuka Lake, a beautiful, beautiful part of the region. And we encourage our visitors to TBEX to either rent a vehicle or if they're able to drive on their own, our region is spread out. Again, it's a rural agritourism region. Our focus is wine. That's our sexy hook. Finger Lakes is our geographic distinction. The wine is what gets attention, and country represents all of the tourism assets in our region that make travel interesting. No matter if you're a solo traveler, female, LGBT, coming as inter-generational, if you're coming for light adventure or rich adventure, history, whatever is your interest in terms of travel, you can find it in Finger Lakes Wine Country.

Corning is also home to the 2006 New York State Class A Football Champions.
In 2003, Charles R. Mitchell and Kirk W. House produced Corning, a historic photo book in Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series. Photos were drawn from the archives of the Corning-Painted Post Historical Society.
