Great Hudson River Paddle at
Following ten highly successful years the Hudson River Valley Greenway is changing the format of the Great Hudson River Paddle from a single end-to-end trip to a series of many types of partner run paddles. The new Great Hudson River Paddle will be modeled on the celebrated Hudson River Valley Ramble and will include short overnight paddles, day paddles, free paddles, paddle races, and any other events our partners dream up.
The next step in the evolution of the paddle will be to prepare a website with a design similar to the Hudson River Valley Ramble's site that will allow partners to directly upload events.
The goals of the change are to get more people out on the Hudson in a safe and fun environment and to bolster local economic development through increased ecotourism. The Great Hudson River Paddle is an annual series of events that celebrate, promote, and document the recreational use of the Hudson River in the early twenty-first century.
The events are scheduled for July 2011 and will take place throughout the Hudson River Valley. Sponsorship opportunities will be available.
Watch this space for information and a link to a new website that will allow you to register your event for the new Great Hudson River Paddle.
2010 GHRP Sponsor Acknowledgments
We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our 2010 sponsors, especially our major sponsors: the New York State Bridge Authority; the New York State Canal Corporation; the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The New York State Bridge Authority has provided enormous logistical support for the Paddle.
The New York State Canal Corporation is the agency responsible for creating and maintaining the Canalway Water Trail throughout the New York State Canal System. The Canal Corporation has been a critical partner in the Water Trail effort.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has long been a supporter of the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail; currently eleven state park sites are designated as part of the trail. OPRHP has also provided invaluable technical assistance to the Paddle since its inception.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), through its Hudson River Estuary Management and Public Affairs programs, has been a major funding and technical assistance sponsor of the Paddle since its inception. The Hudson River Estuary Management Program is a unique regional partnership designed to protect, conserve, restore, and enhance the Hudson River estuary.Currently ten DEC sites are designated as part of the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail.
Several other state agencies, and many private outfitters, outdoor retailers, local and regional businesses and not-for-profit corporations have worked withe the Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area to make this event a success. For a complete listing please see our Sponsors page. We thank all of you for your support for this event. Without each of you we could not make this event happen!
We could not have even begun the Hudson River Greenway Water Trail or the Great Hudson River Paddle without the partnership, support and friendship of the Hudson River Watertrail Association, Inc. Thanks to everyone at HRWA!
Finally the Great Hudson River Paddle is the brainchild of Camilla Calhoun, who oversaw the first two paddles and remains a friend of the Greenway and the Paddle. Thanks Camilla!
