Carinthia Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Carinthia in Austria.
Carinthia is Austria’s southernmost region and borders both Italy and Slovenia. It is located in the sunny heart of Europe with more than a thousand lakes plus spectacular alpine regions and numerous Celtic Roman excavation sites, mediaeval castles, monasteries and cathedrals. In the eastern part of Carinthia and more than a thousand metres above sea level is one of the region’s oldest historical villages, the mountain village of Diex. In the fifteenth century the Turks invaded the area with great savagery thus, as protection, local farmers built castellated churches in which they sought sanctuary. Friesach, Carinthia’s oldest city, has retained what must be the true ambience of the Middle Ages, with a fortified princely estate and churches and monasteries that are surrounded by sturdy walls and a moat. The Maria Saal Open Air Museum is situated in the heart of Carinthia. In this richly cultural and historic area various traditional farm buildings from all over Carinthia have been reconstructed. Klagenfurt is the administrative centre of Carinthia: a middle class garden city that does not contain the fine buildings of the aristocracy but has a good helping of southern flair and, due to the nearby Wörthersee, is a marvellous summer resort. The Grossglockner High Alps road travels through one of the greatest natural landscapes in the world, the Hohe Tauern National Park, a remarkable mountain world in which nature is at its most glorious.

Travel Austria - Visiting the Town of Dürnstein
Take a tour of Town of Dürnstein in Austria -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Situated on the banks of the mighty Danube, Durnstein is a picture-perfect medieval town.
It's an entirely scenic location with the famous river and the surrounding hillsides.
The whole town is fairly small, but delightful, and one of the region's most popular places.
Durnstein still maintains the appearance and character of an intimate 14th or 15th century town.
The work on the baroque Durnstein Abbey started in 1710 where an older, 15th-century monastery was situated.
The interior, and especially the altar, are very exquisite.
Durnstein even has the ruins of a castle perched on the hill above it.
Laxenburg and Mayerling - Austria HD Travel Channel
Laxenburg is today one of the many recreation areas in Vienna.
Besides a large English style landscape park, the castle Franzensburg is a popular tourist destination. Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth, called Sisi spent many weeks in this idyllic surroundings. Also two of their four children werw born here.
Originally Mayerling Castle was in the possession of the Heiligenkreuz Abbey before it was taken over by Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria, son of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth and converted into a hunting lodge.
Presumably he committed suicide here together with Mary Vetsera on January,30 1889. After that a church was erected in place of the living rooms and converted the castle into a cloister.

Maltatal - Austria HD Travel Channel
The Malta Valley in Carinthia is the eastern gate to the High Tauern National Park in Austria. It owes its name to the river Malta, which flows 36 km through the valley. With a variety of waterfalls, the Malta Valley fascinates the people and therefore it is rightly called the valley of the falling waterfalls.
The water power feeds the Malta power stations (Maltakraftwerke) a network of hydroelectric plants in Carinthia which have great importance for the balance of the energy demand peaks. Up to now is the largest storage power plant in Austria.
We reach the Kölnbreinsperre, the core of the Malta power plants with a dam wall of 200 m of height at approx. 1900 m above sea level, over a romantic street with nine bridges and six tunnels. The Kölnbreinsperre is the highest dam in Austria, the deepest lake in Carinthia and one of the largest reservoirs in Europe.
The Malta Hochalmstrasse ( high Alpine road) with its numerous curves and beautiful panoramic views is a great destination for motorcyclists.
One finds quickly something cooling in this almost high alpine landscape on hot summer's days: Our Husky Bitch enjoys a extensive bath, if just only with the legs.
This beautiful region offers a wide variety of activities for holiday-makers like hiking, climbing, mountaineering and ski touring in the winter. The family-friendly guest facilities make the Malta Valley a popular holiday destination for young and old.

The art house created on the occasion of the European Capital of Culture in 2003 in Graz (Styria, Austria) was integrated with the façade of the iron house, built in1847, and forms a strong contrast with the surrounding buildings. At night the modern glass façade can be used as a display to let the exhibited art sink in the public space.
The Murinsel, the modern landmark of the city of Graz, is between art house and Schlossberg in the Mur River. The floating steel construction in form of a sea shell was designed by New York artist and designer Vito Acconci after an idea of Robert Punkenhofer from Graz. The Murnsel is bridge, cafe and children's play area as well as meeting point of the youth in the amphitheater on sunny days.
