Hof is a town located on the banks of the Saale in the northeastern corner of the German state of Bavaria, in the Franconian region, at the Czech border and the forested Fichtelgebirge and Frankenwald upland regions. The town of Hof is enclosed by, but does not belong to the Bavarian district of Hof; it is nonetheless the district's administrative seat. The town's most important work of art, the Hofer altar, dates from about 1465 and is exhibited in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich today.     The Botanischer Garten der Stadt Hof is a municipal botanical garden located in the Theresienstein park, at Alte Plauener Strasse 16, Hof, Bavaria, Germany. It is open daily in the warmer months without charge. The garden started sometime before 1929 as a municipal garden for teaching students, and from 1929-1932 was developed as a botanical garden by city gardener Rudolf Hutschenreiter. During World War II, it was used primarily for vegetables. Reconstruction began after the war, to new designs created by gardener Herrmann Fuchs from 1958-1998.
