Iddesleigh is a village and civil parish in the county of Devon, England. The settlement has ancient origins and is listed in the Domesday Book. The village lies on the B3217 road, roughly central in its parish of around 2,900 acres, about eight miles north of the town of Okehampton. Iddesleigh has been described as an attractive small village, with good views of Dartmoor to the south. Its church is a grade I listed building and there are a number of other listed buildings in the parish. The War Horse farm in Devon that author Michael Morpurgo based his book on, has opened a museum for visitors.

Fans of the book - which went on to win awards as a theatre production in London's West End and on Broadway, New York, and was even made into a Steven Spielberg film - can now visit the farm to learn more about the story of Joey the horse and his young owner Albert.

Parsonage Farm and the surrounding area of Iddesleigh are the setting for the beginning of the book, where Joey the horse forms his deep bond with Albert before he is taken to join the war effort.

The farm counts author Michael Morpurgo among its neighbours and already works closely with him as part of his Farms for City Children charity, which began in 1976.

Now the owners Graham and Rose Ward have collected photographs, documents and pictures of the village and surrounding Devon countryside to tell the story behind War Horse, focusing on how Devon coped during the war and the important role horses played in battle.

The exhibition is being hosted in the farm's 500-year-old cob barn and includes artefacts collected by local residents.
