Kivijärvi on Kymijoen vesistön Viitasaaren reittiin kuuluva järvi pohjoisessa Keski-Suomessa. Järven pinta-ala on 154,03 neliökilometriä, ja se on Suomen 30. suurin järvi. Järvi on noin 50 kilometriä pitkä ja leveimmillään noin 10 kilometriä. Kivijärven selät etelästä pohjoiseen ovat Kuivaselkä, Lintuselkä, Lokaselkä, Rutaselkä ja Kotkatselkä. Näistä Lokaselkä on suurin. Järven syvin kohta, noin 45 metriä, sijaitsee Lintuselällä. Kivijärven suurimpia saaria ovat Riansaari, Rutasaari, Iso Talviaissaari, Lehtosaari (Kivijärvi), Lehtosaari (Kinnula), Iso Kuoresaari, Saihosaari, Veitsaari, Heitsaari, Huhmarsaari, Siikasaari, Korpisaari ja Selkäsaari.

Kivijärvi is a rather large lake in Finland. The name Kivijärvi is rather common and there are 121 lakes with the same name. This is the biggest of them. The lake is located in the Central Finland region. It belongs to Kymijoki main catchment area. It is 30th biggest lake in Finland. It is a good lake for fishing. For example a 10.1 kg lake trout was caught in Kivijärvi lake in summer 2001.

The dark side of Finland - Light on the North
In the vast Finnish snow landscapes Stine goes in search of what the Finns call 'sisu': a concept that is best explained in English as a mixture of positivity, perseverance, honesty and determination. Stine shows the dark side of the Finnish sisu: in comparison to other European countries Finland has high percentages of excessive alcohol consumption, divorces and suicides. Seeking psychologic help is also a heavy taboo there.
In Light on the North, Stine Jensen gauges one after the other the Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish and Danish souls.
