Loleta is a census-designated place in Humboldt County, California which derives its name from lalōekā, the Wiyot name for the trail on the top of Table Bluff. Loleta is located 5.5 miles south of Fields Landing, and 15 miles south of Eureka at an elevation of 46 feet . The population was 783 at the 2010 census. Residents live in a central community area and rural outskirts. There are two separate Native American reservations on the rural outskirts of Table Bluff, California. The ZIP Code is 95551, and the community is inside area code 707.

1. Trinidad State Beach Trinidad
Trinidad Yurok: Chuerey is a seaside city in Humboldt County, located on the Pacific Ocean 8 miles north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport and 15 miles north of the college town of Arcata. Situated at an elevation of 174 feet above its own North Coast harbor, Trinidad is one of California's smallest incorporated cities by population . Trinidad is noted for its spectacular coastline with ten public beaches and offshore rocks, part of the California Coastal National Monument, of which Trinidad is a Gateway City. Fishing operations related to Trinidad Harbor are vital to both local tourism and commercial fishery interests in the region.

2. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park Orick
Prairie Creek is the Redwood Creek tributary drainage basin including the inland portion of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Prairie Creek drains southerly through a Plio-Pleistocene non-marine sedimentary and metasedimentary formation to a confluence with Redwood Creek approximately one mile upstream of Orick, California. The southern half of the channel exposes the Franciscan Assemblage and the lower reaches flow through Quaternary alluvium of the Redwood Creek estuarine floodplain. Prairie Creek was closely followed by U.S. Route 101 from Orick to the Klamath River drainage divide. The former highway alignment through the park has been designated the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway; through traffic now follows a new alignment along the easterly drainage basin headwall.

Northern California US 101: Eureka, Arcata at Sunset

Enjoy the drive up US Highway 101 in northern California around sunset time. This drive begins at California Route 211 (from Ferndale) and hops onto 101 for the drive through Eureka and Arcata. There's a brief stop for dinner, and then the drive continues to the Clam Beach area, where I tried to catch a sunset.

I made this trip in August, 2015. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).
