Mangawhai -- New Zealand HD

Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide
Mangawhai offers a choice of beach experiences. Frolic in the waves on the surf side of town or enjoy a peaceful swim in the sheltered harbour.
Mangawhai, also known as Mangawhai Heads, is a quiet beach town nestled between the Pacific Ocean coast and rolling farmland. You're offered a choice of seaside experiences here -- a surf beach on one side and safe harbour beaches on the other.
On the far side of the harbour is a large sand dune area that's administered by the Department of Conservation. The dunes are home to fairy terns, Caspian terns, variable oystercatchers and New Zealand dotterels. Mangawhai Heads and the village of Mangawhai are linked by a picturesque causeway surrounded by native wetlands and bush.
Charter boats are available to take you fishing or diving; you can also surf cast off the beach. Other local activities include donkey rides and mini golf.
There are several cafés in the area and a wide choice of places to stay -- from motel units and self-contained cottages to farmstays and B&Bs.
Functional facts: Approx. population 820, information centre, basic shops.

Exploring Auckland and Mangawhai
We leave Sydney and fly to New Zealand to meet friends who used to live in Positano.
Together we explore around Auckland, Piha Beach and the beautiful KiteKite Falls.
We drive up the coast to Mangawhai where we will be staying in a caravan on their vineyard for the next few days.
Mangawhai cliff walk
Mangawhai Cliff Walkway is about 5km return (2-3 hours return)
It is situated at Mangawhai heads, a very popular swim and surf beach 80 minutes north of Auckland on the East coast.
The track was created November 1979 and offers uninterrupted coastal views from the cliff top, to return via the beach it is important to time the tide correctly as it can only be done at low tide. The first part of the beach is very rocky and offers boulder hopping for about 2km, so if you like boulder hopping, this section is definitely for you.
When we got back to the main beach I decided to do some more boulder hopping out on the paninsula.
Also have a look on the web before you go for notices as the cliffs are prone to slips from time to time

Mid-Winter Summer at Mangawhai!? - Travel New Zealand - Mangawhai Heads
It's the middle of the winter here in New Zealand, so we decided to make the most of the winter weather by going to Mangawhai Heads for a walk along the beach. The walk starts off along the beach and quickly ascends about 150m up the cliff, after about two kilometres you can choose to go down to the rocks and come back along the beach (if it's low tide), or you can return along the same route. It's super rewarding for the amount of effort that has to be put in. For more information see:

Cathedral Cove
Cathedral Cove Walk
Located at Hahei on the Coromandel peninsula, Cathedral Cove is one of the “must visit” sites on the Coromandel. It's a very popular tourist destination so visit at sunrise or early evening if you want to avoid the crowds.
But first it is important to know that the car park at the start of the track is closed, it's now only a drop-off zone, but you have a few other options to consider:
1) free parking is available at the entrance to the village instead, from there walk via the beach to the start of the walk, or
2) Use the park and ride shuttle bus available from the free parking area (It costs $5 return per person, $3 for a child and $10 for a family (2 adults 2 children)
For more up to date rates please visit: or
3) Use the water taxi service that runs from Hahei beach which is $15 per person per trip
4) Or pay a local who offers parking on their property, this might vary but we paid $10, we found this quite convenient and close to the start of the track.
Disclaimer:
All prices mentioned was valid at the time this video was uploaded, please visit the provided links for more up-to-date rates and information.
Cathedral Cove is accessible only by foot, boat or kayak, and is considered one of best short walks you can do, it offers stunning views of the Coromandel coast and takes you past dramatic cliff formations to where it ends at the iconic rock archway of Cathedral Cove.
Along the way you have 2 other side tracks which is well worth the visit, The first one is Gemstone bay which offers excellent snorkeling.
Next up is Stingray bay, this must be one of the most beautiful beaches on the Coromandel! white sand, dramatic white cliffs and turquoise water.
From here is the last stretch to Cathedral Cove, the whole track is well graded but has some really long and steep hill sections.
All drone use must be authorized by DOC
A concession is required to fly a drone on any public conservation land - see Recreational drone use and Commercial drone use for more information.
