100 NEW ZEALAND WATERFALLS

30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜
-- About this video --
Today we are checking out some free glowworm caves in New Zealand! Clifden Caves is a short drive from the Southland New Zealand town of Tuatapere. It’s a great place to see some limestone caves and glow worm caves in New Zealand.
These Glow worm caves in the South Island are absolutely free but there are a few safety precautions if you decide to visit. Do not visit the Clifden Caves during or after rain, go in at least pairs, and take plenty of torches are spare batteries with you. The exploration through the South Island caves takes 1 to 2 hours.
The Clifden Caves is a limestone caves filled with glowworms. Reflective markers guide you through the caves so we make sure to follow them in order not to get lost. We also get the opportunity to see New Zealand glowworms close up and as blue lights on the ceiling.
It takes us a full 2 hours to get through the caves, only to realise that once we reach the other end, we only walk about a minute back to the start!
So what do you think of the Clifden Caves? Are these New Zealand caves something you would explore? LUK in the comments.

The most beautiful places of the world - Waitomo Caves
The Waitomo Caves is a village and solutional cave system forming a major tourist attraction in the northern King Country region of the North Island of New Zealand, 12 kilometres northwest of Te Kuiti. The community of Waitomo Caves itself is very small, though the village has many temporary service workers living there as well. The word Waitomo comes from the Māori language wai meaning water and tomo meaning a doline or sinkhole; it can thus be translated to be water passing through a hole. The caves are formed in Oligocene limestone.
The caves were carved by underground streams pushing through soft limestone over thousands of years. Many have amazing stalactites growing down from the ceiling and stalagmites growing up from the cave floor, pointy cones of layered rock formed over centuries by dripping water. The cave walls are also decorated with galaxies of native glow worms.
The easiest way to see the caves is with a walking or boat tour. If you’re into adventure, try the unique experience of blackwater rafting - you'll crawl, swim and float through the caves on a rubber tube. Or you could abseil or zip-line through the darkness. However you choose to explore Waitomo Caves, you're bound to agree they're a wonder of nature.
