The Pella Corporation is a privately held window and door manufacturing company headquartered in Pella, Iowa, and with manufacturing and sales operations in a number of locations in the United States. The company was founded in 1925 when Peter Kuyper and his wife Lucille invested $5,000 to buy the Rolscreen Company, a small business that had created the Rolscreen insect window screen that rolls out of sight when not in use. It is a paved recreational trail that runs through the Polk, Story, Boone, and Dallas counties. LAST SQUIRREL JAIL IN USA | COUNCIL BLUFFS IOWA

Here we visit the squirrel jail, one of only 3 jails of it's type in the United States, where the entire jail is controlled by just one guard. We then check out the free Union Pacific railroad museum detailing the history of the railroad in the US.

Iowa: Des Moines, The Des Moines Art Center

The Des Moines Art Center is an art museum with an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture, modern art and mixed media. It was established in 1948.

The architecture of the original museum wing was designed in a combination of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles by Eliel Saarinen in 1945 and completed in 1948.

The second addition, originally intended for large-scale sculpture, was designed in a Modernist style by I.M. Pei in 1966 and completed in 1968. Legend says that Pei designed the south windows, which look out onto the rose garden, to resemble PEI, but he has denied this.

The third wing was designed by Richard Meier and completed in 1985. This wing was designed to allow as much natural ambient light in as possible.

The Des Moines Art Center is free of charge.

There is a special exhibition on Vivian Maier's works. I watched a movie on her life a while back and love her photos. Now I got to see her works in person, what a nice surprise!
