Rautalampi is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the former province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 3,225 and covers an area of 761.98 square kilometres of which 222.99 km2 is water. The population density is 5.98 inhabitants per square kilometre . Neighbouring municipalities are Hankasalmi, Konnevesi, Pieksämäki, Suonenjoki, Tervo and Vesanto. The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

    Southern Konnevesi National Park is situated in the Finnish Lakeland on the border of the regions Central Finland and Northern Savonia, in the municipalities of Konnevesi and Rautalampi. The park includes islands in the southern part of Lake Konnevesi and an extensive continuous stretch of mainland on the lake's eastern shore. The national park is located to the south of main road 69 and to the north-west of highway 9. In the park visitors can enjoy the wide open waters of the lake in a boat, or canoe through a maze of islands among smooth glaciated rocks and vertical rock walls.     Linnansaari National Park is a national park in the Southern Savonia and Northern Savonia regions of Finland. It lies in the middle of the lake Haukivesi, a part of greater Saimaa. The National Park was established to conserve the valuable natural features of the Finnish lakeland. On the main island there's an old croft. Slash-and-burn agriculture is still practised on its fields to conserve the old cultural landscape and the associated plant and animal species. A large part of the island is natural-state coniferous forest, with some herb-rich parts. The critically endangered Saimaa Ringed Seal inhabits the park.
