Rosamond is a census-designated place in Kern County, California, USA, near the Los Angeles county line. 20 miles north of Palmdale, in the Antelope Valley, the westernmost desert valley of the Mojave Desert. Rosamond is also 13 miles south of Mojave, and 11 miles north of Lancaster at an elevation of 2,342 feet . According to 2010 United States census data, the town population was 18,150. The Postal Service shows portions of Rosamond as having the names Tropico Village, California, named after a mine, and Willow Springs. Camarillo is a city in Ventura County in the U.S. state of California. The population was 65,201 at the 2010 census, up from 57,084 at the 2000 census. The Ventura Freeway is the city's primary thoroughfare. Camarillo is named for Adolfo and Juan Camarillo, two of the few Californios to preserve the city's heritage after the arrival of Anglo settlers. The origin of the name of the beach may be related to the origin of the name of nearby [promontory] Point Dume. Point Dume was named by George Vancouver in 1793 in honor of Padre Francisco Dumetz of Mission San Buenaventura. The name was misspelled on Vancouver's map as Dume and was never corrected. On a plat map of the Rancho Topanga Malibu Sequit finally confirmed to new owner Matthew Keller in August 1870, the point is marked on the map as Point Zuma or Duma.

The Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco- - is a large suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. The bridge is part of both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 and the structure links the city of San Francisco, on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, to Marin County. It is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco, California, and indeed the entire United States. The American Society of Civil Engineers has declared it to be one of the Wonders of the Modern World by. The widely read Frommers travel guide considers the Golden Gate Bridge possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed bridge in the world. The Golden Gate was designed by architect Joseph B. Strauss, whose statue stands on the southern observation deck, the bridge took four years to build, and was finally completed on May 27, 1937. It is not actually golden in color, but is painted a deep red-orange color known as International Orange, also known as Orange Vermillion. This aerial video clip takes the viewer over the approach hills to the bridge and then gives a complete view of the Golden Gate complete with traffic below.

California travel expert Veronica Hill of offers a guide to desert animals at the Living Desert in this episode of California Travel Tips.

The Living Desert zoo in Palm Desert is home to some of the most common desert animals found in North America.

Plan on at least a full day to enjoy this gorgeous 1,200 acre park. You'll spot a large number of animals founds here in our California desert, from the adorable bobcat and crafty coyote, to the majestic mountain lion.

Be sure to arrive early in the morning if you want to see the animals in action. By mid-day, many have retired to their burrows for a nap and reprieve from the intense desert heat.

A highlight for me was a glimpse at two endangered species — the desert bighorn sheep, found in the rocky mountains of California, and the gorgeous Mexican wolf, once found throughout the Southwest.

This is also one of the few places where you'll find the rare and tiny desert pupfish, which can survive in waters over 100 degrees.

If you're into birdwatching, this is a great place to see some beautiful desert birds up close, from the roadrunner and hummingbird to the golden eagle and Great Horned Owl. Look up in the sky and you may spot a Harris Hawk coming down for a landing.

Found! Secret Gold Mine and Mining Camp Hidden in the Mountains

We recently stumbled upon this secret, hidden, abandoned mine and mining camp high up in the mountains. We explored one mine tunnel as well as the surface structures. A shed onsite contained an old vintage Silvertone radio/record player from 1940, a winch, a newspaper from 1957, and other artifacts. Inside the mine, we found more artifacts used by the miners, and we demonstrate in the video how those artifacts were used by the miners long ago.
