Inyokern is a census-designated place in Kern County, California, United States. Its name derives from its location near the border between Inyo and Kern Counties. Inyokern is located 8 miles west of Ridgecrest, at an elevation of 2,434 feet . It is on the western side of the Indian Wells Valley. The population was 1,099 at the 2010 census, up from 984 at the 2000 census. It was a railroad town established along the Southern Pacific railroad's Lone Pine Branch . It is served by Inyokern Airport.

LADWP Releasing Water into Desert

Due to the wet winter across most of California, many of the reservoirs are at capacity. The LADWP started releasing excessive water into the desert region of the Indian Wells Valley, near Inyokern CA. The water travels through several washes and eventually ends up at the lakebed of China Lake Navel Weapons Station. Water began to be released on Monday Feb 27th from both pipelines, at a combined rate of about 1.5 million cubic feet per day. Water can be seen from Highway 14, Brown Rd in Inyokern, and Highway 395.
