French Adventure (Part I) Bordeaux to St Jean Pied de Port
On 31 Aug 2011 flew into Bordeaux-Merignac where we picked up diesel powered Renault Megane rental and headed to Mimizan Plage on the Bay of Biscay which opens into the Atlantic. From there we drove south to the French Pyrenees staying mostly on back country roads. This video takes us up to St Jean Pied de Port.
SEA Tours Bordeaux High Speed Line
SEA Tours-Bordeaux is a high-speed line (HSL) rail project covering a distance of 302 kilometres and providing a continuous high-speed link between Paris and Bordeaux, on France’s Atlantic coast. At present only the Paris–Tours section of this journey can be travelled at high speed. When the SEA HSL will be opened for commercial service in 2017: Bordeaux will be 2 hours and 5 minutes from Paris, which is around one hour less than the current travel time. More at (French)

Manaurie : Viaduc ferroviaire et château de Lortal
Le panoramearth est pris du bord de la D47 qui relie Périgueux à Sarlat. J'ai pris un pano à cet endroit pour le viaduc ferroviaire et le château de Lortal, de l'autre côté de la route. Au début de la vidéo, on voit la D47 direction Périgueux. A la seconde 15 de la vidéo, le château de Lortal que l'on distingue à peine entre les branchages. Une bâtisse des 16e et 17e siècles, avec une chapelle attenante, forges anciennes, fonderie et moulin. A la seconde 28, la D47 qui arrive de Sarlat. Puis, sur la droite, à la seconde 45, le viaduc sur lequel passe la voie ferrée Bordeaux-Sarlat.

Are British railways better than French ones? Probably not.
French stations seem to be built to a grand scale, not all as good as Limoges Benedictines, but good places to visit. And yes, Limoges Benedictines really is a railway station, not a Cathedral or a grand hotel. Enjoy.
