Adelaide South Australia
A brief look at some off the iconic sights of Adelaide, South Australia
Adelaide: Best Beaches in Australia
Adelaide: Best Beaches in Australia.
What You Need to Know:
1. It is Australia's wine country
Consider Adelaide's countryside the Australian equivalent of Napa Valley. Though McLaren Vale, Barossa and other local wine regions are best known for producing shiraz (a full-bodied red wine), other varieties like riesling, grenache and semillon are also made here.
2. It is in the opal
capital of the world
Even though Coober Pedy (a small mining town found 525 miles northwest of Adelaide) is where the country sources the bulk of its opals, all of Australia's major cities, including Adelaide, sell them. Reputable local opal specialists include the Opal Diamond Factory and Unique Opal & Diamond Manufacturers.
3. It is the birthplace of Haigh's Chocolates
Australia's oldest family-owned chocolatiers set up shop at Rundle Mall in 1915. You can still buy handmade chocolates at the original store, but for a behind-the-scenes experience, go on a free tour of the company's Visitor Centre in the southern suburb of Parkside.
