We travelled around the Ring Road and stopping at many beautiful places such as Reykjavik, the Blue Lagoon, Höfn, Selfoss, Goðafoss, Mývatn, Jökulsárlón, Skógafoss and loads of other less touristy places even more amazing.

How to shoot the Northern Lights with GoPro (Iceland Aurora Borealis)

This is a glimpse of the northern lights we came across during the last days of our trip to Iceland.
We were not expecting to see them after all the cloudy days we were having, so when they did come out –and they showed during three clear nights one after the other– I started to shoot all I could –let alone my excitement when staring at this beguiling luminous sky– without expressly planning anything at all.
My idea for this project was to put all the shoots together so that I could share this extraordinary happening. You can see that the edit was done a bit fast and that there are some glitches here and there, but I decided to leave it this way because it reminds me of how unforeseeable this event was and it gives me a real sense of what I was experiencing.

GoPro has essentially become the only camera I bring with for my trips and adventures. It is so small and light that you can carry it everywhere, let alone be a burden. I’m this kind of a person who prefers to live the moment fully. Being too focused on my “brand new and groundbreaking” technology device would risk to rift the moment. At the same time though, I like to being able to quickly capture the snapshot so that it stays faithful to the real moment in our memories forever. Those are the main aspects why GoPro is such an indispensable device for me, but with all the positive things, some handicaps do also come along.
At first, I thought it would be impossible to capture low light or night shots with the GoPro, but I had the feeling it would be even harder to capture northern lights at its fullest. There are plenty of photos and videos on the internet that showed incredible good beautiful northern lights, and I wanted to do the same… with a GoPro.
I decided to give it a try and I have to say that the result speaks for itself. I would like to add that the result achieved is quite down-to-earth, very realistic and close of what I actually saw.
