Swalmen is a town in the south-eastern Netherlands. The town is situated between the German border and the Meuse river . Until 1 January 2007, Swalmen was a separate municipality, covering the villages Swalmen, Asselt and Boukoul. These are now part of the municipality of Roermond. Many monuments are found in Swalmen, most notable the Hillenraad castle, the romanesque 'Rozenkerkje' church in Asselt, and castle farms Graeterhof and Zuidewijk Spick. The area attracts tourists for its peaceful surroundings, asparagus, the Groenewoud forest and forestrial swimming pool de Bosberg.

GaiaZOO is a Dutch zoo located in Kerkrade. It opened in 2005 as GaiaPark with approximately 80 different species. As of 2014 the zoo hosts approximately 100 different species.

2. Safaripark Beekse Bergen Tilburg
Safaripark Beekse Bergen is the largest wildlife zoo of the Benelux region and provides a home to approximately 1,250 animals from over 150 species, varying from small mammals to large birds. It is located between the cities of Tilburg and Hilvarenbeek in the south of the Netherlands. The visitors can for instance watch zebras and giraffes on the spacious savannahs. Safaripark Beekse Bergen offers the possibility to explore the park on numerous safaris: walksafari, carsafari, bussafari and boatsafari. The park is owned by the company Libéma Exploitatie BV, which is one of the largest leisure-related companies in the Netherlands. De Nederlandse term landstreek, letterlijk vertaald landoppervlak / regio, betekent dat het gebied geen administratieve regio is, maar een gebied dat samenhang vertoont met cultuur en landschap. Met betrekking tot Zuid-Limburg gaat het om het heuvelachtige landschap, met name in het Heuvelland, verzonken steegjes, een overvloed aan kastelen en de Limburgse streektaal die een aanzienlijk deel van de bevolking naast het Nederlands spreekt. De regio bevat ook het hoogste punt boven zeeniveau op het vasteland van Nederland, de Vaalserberg is 322,5 meter (1,058 voet) boven de zeespiegel (het hoogste punt van het hele land is in het eiland Saba van Caribisch Nederland, namelijk Mount Scenery is 887 meter (2910 ft) boven zeeniveau). South Limburg (Dutch: Zuid-Limburg, Limburgish: Zuud-Limburg) is both a COROP (statistical) region as well as a landstreek (area) of the Netherlands located in the province of Limburg. The Dutch term landstreek, literally translated land area/region, means that the area is not an administrative region but an area that displays cohesion with regard to culture and landscape. With regards to South Limburg this deals with its hilly landscape, especially in the Heuvelland region, sunken lanes, an abundance of castles, and the regional language Limburgish spoken by a significant part of the population alongside Dutch. The region also contains the highest point above sea level in mainland Netherlands, the Vaalserberg being 322.5 metres (1,058 ft) above sea level (the highest point of the entire country is in the Caribbean Netherlands' island of Saba, namely Mount Scenery being 887 metres (2,910 ft) above sea level). The region South Limburg in addition, although extended a little further north to Roermond, forms a constituent part of the Euroregion Meuse-Rhine.
