Aquesta iniciativa té molts punts en comú amb la cooperativa Som Energia Documental en el qual es mostra l'inici de la cooperativa EWS que produeix i comercialitza electricitat d'origen renovable. Aquesta iniciativa ciutadana neix a la població alemanya de Schönau com a reacció a l'accident nuclear de Txernòbil i amb la clara vocació de canviar el sistema elèctric alemany cap a un sistema basat en les energies renovables i en la participació ciutadana.
