Phillips Academy in Andover is the best high school in America
We visited Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts to see what makes it the best high school in America. The school is often confused with Phillips Exeter. There are 1,154 students on Andover's campus. Tuition for students living on campus is $53,900. Tuition for day students is $41,900. Andover has a need-blind admissions policy which means they accept students based on merit, not wealth. There are 44 states and 44 countries represented in the current student body. Following is a transcript of the video.
Jenny Elliott: Folks who are not so close to Andover or who haven’t experienced something like this will say, “you were sent to boarding school.” And, a sense of agency for kids to feel like, “I wasn’t sent anywhere. I wasn’t sent by my parents. I chose to go to boarding school.”
David Tsai: I’m a senior from Natick, Massachusetts. I have attended Andover for four years. And it is a distinct pleasure of mine to bring all of you around on what I believe is the best school in the world.
The most important thing you learn on this campus is how every single faculty member and every single student, when they are walking on, these are called the paths, they’re smiling. They’re clearly enjoying themselves at this school.
I believe that the boarding experience is so much more beneficial to the student because they get to live on their own and they get to experience high school as most people experience their college years.
John Palfrey: What we’re trying to accomplish here is to be absolutely excellent in the classic ways of academics, of sports, of arts, of community engagement — all of those things — while also really focusing on the young person in their wholeness and to make sure that we encourage kids to have wellness as central to their experience. To make sure they’re getting sleep, to make sure that they’re eating well, to make sure they’re exercising. All of those things I think go together with this idea of excellence. And I think that that combination of things is working really well right now.
Elliott: We don’t post grade point averages. We try to take some very specific steps not to elevate competition in those ways. We do a lot of collaborative work in classes, we do a lot of collaborative work on teams, we do a lot of collaborative work outside — and we do, in terms of our leadership positions for students, there are many positions where there’s actually co-presidents or there are co-leaders to send a clear message to our kids — collaboration is a skill that you’re going to need to develop well in order to be able to move forward here with success.
Tsai: Mental health here is one of the most important things on campus because the only way for you to show your affection for someone, to love someone else, to build connections and build bonds, is to firstly love yourself.
Palfrey: The most distinctive thing about Andover’s program is the need-blind admissions policy in our 11th year. How can you have a morally responsible high school with a $1 billion endowment? It’s when you actually do admit kids solely on the basis of their admission criteria that have nothing to do with wealth.
Tsai: I am so happy that I made the decision to come here because there is so clearly a universal commitment to being loved and to love that you don’t find at any other school.

Drive-Thru Tree Chandelier Tree World Famous Redwood Forest California National Park Trees Part #2
World Famous Drive-Thru Tree Chandelier Tree Redwood Forest Leggett California National Park We had to visit the Redwood Forest since we were so close. We asked someone how close we were to the famous drive-thru tree and said not far at all so we decided to go see it. I didn't know this but it is on private land that a family has owned since 1922. It's weird because you are driving into it and all you see is normal trees and you wonder if your in the right place then all of a sudden you are in the huge trees. It's pretty amazing and I would recommend visiting if you are ever in the area. The drive-thru tree is called the Chandelier Tree and it is 315 feet tall and 21 feet in diameter and they say it is over 2,400 years old. We had to wait in line to drive through it and there was a BMW going through so I had to get a video of it coming through.

Trans Pecos - A Journey To The Far West Texas
The Far West Texas is one of my favorite places in Texas. The Trans Pecos region which is to the west after the Pecos River is a unique ecosystem which has some of the largest mountains in Texas and is also part of the Chihuahuan desert. This video is made from my numerous trips to this region (4 times) between Feb 2017 and Dec 2018. The long 10 hour drive from Houston always seems to me like a pilgrim’s journey and being able to witness and experience this vast, isolated and sparsely populated ecosystem is the reward. For what it’s worth I hope my film inspires others to visit and appreciate this place and know how important it is to conserve this beauty. #transpecos #bigbend #texas

Beautiful Western North Carolina, Beautiful
God has created an awesome wonder in western North Carolina. The Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains converge in this area. There are many scenic drives, such as the Cherohala Skyway, Tail of the Dragon, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and many others. There are many state and national parks that are a must-see. The back-road scenic drive from Colletsville to Blowing Rock is a great place to experience the wonders of a mountain stream called Wilson Creek. Cataloochee Valley is a great place to view wildlife such as the roaming elk. Maggie Valley is a great take-off point, as is Blowing Rock, Robbinsville, and Andrews. Fall is the best time to visit this area for the wonderful Fall Foliage experience. Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell are two of the most scenic mountains in the eastern United States. Lake Lure, the site for the lake scenes of Dirty Dancing, is a great scenic walk with the lake and the mountains for a background. This area is truly one of the most beautiful in the United States. It is a great place to experience the beautiful handiwork of our Father who art in Heaven. God's not dead! He's still here! He's just hiding in the mountains waiting on true seekers.
Underwood, IA Rest Area West Bound I-80
This Rest Area is West Bound I-80 by Underwood, IA. They have a very nice art work to look at and plenty of tables to sit at. I did notice that there are only two places to grill at. They have a info center at this rest area too. Bath rooms where clean like the rest of the building. I did not go into the info center to see how that looked. I did walk around the outside of building.
Thank-you for all your comments and viewing the video. I have other videos on my YouTube page
Visiting Country Music Stars' Homes
Today we took a small bus tour around Nashville, TN to see the homes of some of Country Music Stars' homes. Some really cool houses. Some we could not see really well because they were hidden somewhat. Also the tour guide was pretty funny at some points, so hopefully you enjoy that part of the video as well!
