Upper Carniola is a traditional region of Slovenia, the northern mountainous part of the larger Carniola region. The centre of the region is Kranj, while other urban centers include Jesenice, Tržič, Škofja Loka, Kamnik, and Domžale. It has around 300,000 inhabitants or 14% of the population of Slovenia.

    Planica Nordic Centre is a nordic skiing complex with one ski flying hill, seven ski jumping hills and cross-country skiing track in Planica, Slovenia. It is the only nordic centre in the world with eight hills in one place and the only one of this kind with hills of all sizes at one place: small, medium, normal, large and flying hills. The origins of ski flying started in 1936 in Planica, when 18-year-old Austrian Josef Sepp Bradl became the first man in history to land a ski jump of over 100 metres . It is a place where the most of the ski jumping world records were set on two different hills, and also the historic first jumps over 100 meters by Sepp Bradl on Bloudkova velikanka and over 200 meters by Toni Nieminen on Letalnica bratov Gorišek.   • 4. Vogel Ski Center Bohinjsko Jezero
    Vogel Ski Resort is a Slovenian ski resort located above Bohinj next to Lake Bohinj. The nearest city is Bled. Ljubljana is about an hour away. The resort was opened in 1964. It has a total of 22 kilometres of ski slopes, 8 kilometres tracks for cross country skiing and a snowboard park. The ski resort is located on the outskirts of Triglav National Park, therefore all snowmaking activities are forbidden on the area.

The zoo is notable in that the city is at the intersection of the Alpine, Pannonian, Mediterranean, and Dinaric habitats and has 119 species and a total of 500 animals.

    Zelenci Springs is a nature reserve near the town of Kranjska Gora, in the far northwestern corner of Slovenia. It is the source of the Sava Dolinka River, a tributary of the Danube. At Zelenci Springs, water from underground Nadiža Creek re-emerges through the porous bottom of a 2 m deep lake, whose waters are noted for their deep, brilliant green.     Planica is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. In 1933, Ivan Rožman constructed a larger hill, known as the Bloudek Giant after Stanko Bloudek, which later gave rise to ski flying. The first ski jump over 100 m was achieved here in 1936 by the Austrian Sepp Bradl.
