Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival in Yasothon Thailand
Travel dangerously at this incredible event in Northeastern Thailand
Every year on the second weekend of May, the people of Yasothon and surrounding provinces gather together to launch huge homemade rockets into the sky. A single rocket weighs over 100 kilograms and is packed full of enough gunpowder to keep it aloft for over five minutes!
The tradition behind the festival is that the rockets are symbolically seeding the skies to bring on the rainy season which is crucial here for the planting of rice - the staple crop. There is also a lot of symbolism around fertility and virility.
This is one of our favorite cultural festivals in Thailand. Even if cultural festival sounds like the kind of thing you normally skip, you will like this one. It's very local with few foreigners going, and something you'll probably never forget. However, it is not exactly the safest festival. They claim to be accident-free the last few years, but it is definitely dangerous, especially if you're watching the rockets from up close or checking out the tents where they are packing in the rocket fuel.

Epic Bangkok day trip: Thai wakeboarding, mangroves and monkeys
Samut Songkhram is just 90 minutes from Bangkok and it is one of our favorite day trips from the city. A half day tour in Khlong Khon village will get you a boat trip through the monkey-filled mangrove forests, and a visit to the offshore oyster farms. You can also typically add in playing around in the mud searching for cockles, planting a mangrove tree to help restore the forest, and this retro Thai wakeboarding we got to do behind a longtail boat. This was a super fun day and you can do it as a day trip from Bangkok, or as part of a visit to Samut Songkhram which has a lot of other places worth visiting.

When the Rains Come to Wapi | Thailand HD
Visit my website at - rocket festivals are held in many parts of rural Thailand during a weekend in mid-May, with the arrival of the rainy season. Here in Wapi Pathum there weren't too many rockets, but there were plenty of other festivities to make up for it.

Beach Reort of Koh Dach Island of Mekong River co-managed by Chan Bonnivoit
This famous island is located 30 kilometers along the Mekong River and it is roughly about 15 kilometers northeast of Phnom Penh. Koh Dach can be reached via National Road No 6A and by boat. It is a scenic route along the Mekong River, with its many fishing villages. Once on the island enjoy the scenery. A dusty, sandy road takes you through charming villages and past picturesque views of the river. When you reach the islands northern tip scramble down the eroded bank that leads down to the white, sandy beach. Make your way to the rivers edge, install yourself in one of the many little thatched huts that are pulled into the water and enjoy the calm. The water itself is very clean and inviting enough for a refreshing splash on a hot afternoon. Local vendors are eager enough to sell you food, fresh fruit and cold drinks a whole chicken costs about US$10 and is cooked for you in three different ways. If you order some food, the use of a thatched hut should be thrown in for free. Besides, on Koh Dach visitors can visit a silk weaving village and watch the woven silk on old looms. The island is also famous for its handicraft production. This traditional silk weaving village of handicraft production is the best place to buy home some excellent souvenirs.
