Yepifan is an urban locality in Kimovsky District of Tula Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Don River about 16 kilometers southeast of Kimovsk and 78 kilometers southeast of Tula, in the proximity of the Kulikovo Field. Population: 2,237 ; 2,377 ; 2,457 .Yepifan was founded by Prince Ivan Mstislavsky as a fort against the Crimean Tatars . The people of Yepifan supported Ivan Bolotnikov during the Time of Troubles. The town was ravaged by Ivan Zarutsky and the Tatars on several occasions. The last Tatar raid on Yepifan was recorded in 1659.     Yasnaya Polyana is a writer's house museum, the former home of the writer Leo Tolstoy. It is 12 kilometres southwest of Tula, Russia, and 200 kilometres from Moscow.Tolstoy was born in the house, where he wrote both War and Peace and Anna Karenina. He is buried nearby. Tolstoy called Yasnaya Polyana his inaccessible literary stronghold.In June 1921, the estate was nationalized and formally became his memorial museum.
