Entry Title: Conquesting Mount Sniezka (1602m)
Entry:
This was definately one of the coolest days in my life so far!!!!!
A few people from work decided to 'take a hike' to the Carpathian mountains at the border of Poland and Czech Republic in a late April Sunday. During this first month here I've already got some interesting new friends who are into this kinda stuff and being outdoors in general, which is good for me too cause they drag my ass out aswell every now and then!
We started to drive towards Złoty Stok at about 7am, it takes nearly 2 hours to drive up there and we were told there might be traffic (on the mountains???) so we thought it would be better to be there early. The morning was absolutely stunning with bright sunshine, almost empty highways and already lime-yellowish rape-seed fields. By the time we reached the small villages closer to our destination, people were only going to the morning mass. I just love to be awake when others are waking up, yay!! While the roads started to narrow into small streets, also the change of altitude began to pop my ears. Well okay, we didnt drive all the way to the top and it wasn't even that high yet but for a girl like me from a flat country such as Finland even getting on a chair might make me dizzy..
The weather forecast promised almost hot summer temperatures back in Wroclaw but the temps up there at the beginning of our trekking path didnt give same type of impressions. Although the sky was totally clear, the wind was already tough down there. Me and my unfaithful bladder forced the rest of the group to wait while I was trying to find a toilet before starting. A local oldish man (handsome still though..) adviced us that the elevator to the top was closed due to the bad weather up there, so also the kiosk and toilet keeper were off today....... yippii! There's -15'C and dangerously windy too, so wouldn't recommend any of you to go there today, he also said. Well after that little chitchat, whining and smiling kindly, the man was nice enough to let me use his private toilet in his cottage. The house was freeeeezzzing inside!!! How do these people live here? Or take a shower in that small bathroom?!
Finally we started to head up. I actually felt like being back home in Finland, although at this time of the year we'd still have snow in the woods. Here it was all green already and the water was running down in small brooks. The start was very steep hike up and a pair of Nordic walking sticks (or what ever stick at that point) would've been handy. It didn't take long to get to the snowline and I already cursed the girly street Pumas I was wearing. It was definately a good idea to get there in the morning, since the weather was amazing and the groups hadn't started to climb yet. The path widened into a small forest road where the forest machines had been working. The scenery had really been opened up by taking down all those trees and we could see all the way down to the fields near the villages passed earlier, just beautiful..
The wind got stronger and stronger the higher we got. I tried to survive with my shoes in the snow though it was still a good joke to jump like a little monkey here and there trying to prevent the socks to get wet. They said we were right about in the half way up when we came to the first break point. There was a huge chalet type building built for travellers to take a rest and have a bite. I was already a bit cold, since the temps had started to fall on the way up. The beanie and gloves proved to be a good idea! So we escaped the wind into the restaurant they had there, ate and had something warm to drink, and then continued. Really well equipped break point; they sold proper meals and almost what ever you'd need at that point of your trip.
I thought we had already crossed the snowline earlier on the way, but that appeared be only a start of it down there... The rest of the way up, there was about 10-50cm of ...

Czarny Gron Hotel, Rzyki, Poland #HotelReviews
Czarny Gron is an amazing 4* hotel located in the middle of beautiful Little Beskids (Beskid Maly) mountain Range. Extensive forests surrounding the hotel make this place perfect if you are looking for peace, silence and relax! Large range of SPA treatments will make relaxation even more pleasurable. However the area has plenty to offer for more active people as well. You will find over there: tennis court, outdoor gym, ice rink, ski slope, bike rental, go-ape park etc. Plenty of things that will not allow you to be bored.
Hotel itself is generally quite new, very clean and tidy. Rooms with a good size, equipped with all the essentials. Very friendly and extremely helpful staff. Restaurant provides cheap and tasty local specialities that you will definitely enjoy :)
The greets advantage of this place is a location where, as mentioned, you can easily chill out & relax or spend your time more active. It's worth to mention that nearby you will find a lot of places that have to visit: Auschwitz, Krakow, Wieliczka or some fun parks in Zator and Inwald.
As this place is located almost in the middle of nowhere you will definitely need your own transport to get there. Easy access from Cracow as well as Katowice airports (around 70km).

Western Poland (#08): Klodzko, Ladek-Zdrój
The Land of Klodzko is surrounded by mountain ranges forming a natural barrier separating it from the rest of Silesia and creating a kind of individual enclave. The military importance of this part of present Silesia region necessitated that a new town be raised ... namely Klodzko. First mention of this town comes from the 10th century and until the beginning of 17th century, the Land of Klodzko was under Czech political and economical influences. Between the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, the Land of Klodzko was under Austrian domination and after so-called Treaty of Hubertusburg of 1763; this region was Prussian until 1871 and German until the end of World War II.
Ladek-Zdrój (German: Bad Landeck) is a town in Klodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It is the seat of the administrative district (gmina) called Gmina Ladek-Zdrój, close to the Czech border. Prior to 1945 it was in Germany.
It lies approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) south-east of Klodzko, and 88 kilometres (55 mi) south of the regional capital Wroclaw. As at 2006, the town has a population of 6,181. Ladek-Zdrój became famous in Poland because of Stanislaw Bareja's cult film Incredibly peaceful man (Niespotykanie spokojny czlowiek.)
Ladek-Zdrój is one of the oldest health resorts in Europe, surrounded by the Golden Mountains, not far from the majestic summit of Snieznik towering over the Klodzko Land. The town attracted patients and tourists for centuries. The location of the town, the charm of the old town part , together with the greenery of the spa parks create a unique atmosphere.
