Two Medicine Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana June 2012
This is Two Medicine Lake, on the east side of Glacier National Park. Prior to the construction of the Going-to-the-Sun road, this lake was one of the most popular destinations for those visiting Glacier. The mountain peak in the foreground is Sinopah Mountain.

Upper Two Medicine- Hiking in Glacier National Park, MT: Still Photo
In July, 2014, my family travelled to Glacier National Park where
we hiked several trails in the park, including the Trail to Upper Two
Medicine Lake which features a boat ride to get there. The trail
moves through a valley filled with bear grass, lodgepole pines,
and majestic mountains in the backdrop. My youngest son spent
most of his time searching for bears. Even in July, we found snow
on part of the path near Upper Two Medicine Lake. If you are in the
park, this is a must...but...you better make advanced reservations
for the boat. Thanks for watcing....please feel free to browse my

Two Medicine at Glacier National Park, Montana
Before the Going-to-the-Sun Road was constructed, Two Medicine was a primary destination for travelers arriving by train. After spending a night at Glacier Park Lodge, visitors climbed on horseback to travel to Two Medicine for a night in one of several rustic chalets or canvas tipis built by the Great Northern Railway. From Two Medicine, a system of backcountry tent camps and chalets within the park allowed these adventurous visitors to live in Glacier's wild interior.
Backpackers and dayhikers find this area rich in scenery, providing those willing to travel by foot into the mountains with a true wilderness experience. Tenderfeet can also venture off the roads and into the wild with a casual boat tour on Two Medicine Lake.
Today, Two Medicine has become a somewhat off-the-beaten-path discovery for most park visitors. Once discovered however it's easy to see why many people consider this their favorite part of Glacier National Park. Amazing vistas, extensive trails, crashing waterfalls, and sparkling lakes await.
For a live glimpse of the Two Medicine area, check out our Webcam page; we have a webcam pointed at the prominent peaks.

Badger-Two Medicine
In the heart of the Crown of the Continent, the Badger-Two Medicine (B2M) on Montana's Rocky Mountain Front, is a 130,000-acre area bounded on the north by Glacier National Park and on the east by the Blackfeet Reservation. The Great Bear and Bob Marshall Wilderness areas lie to the west and south. The B2M is a Traditional Cultural District (TCD) under the National Historic Preservation Act because of its religious and cultural significance to the Blackfeet Nation.
For over 30 years, citizens, energy companies and the federal government have been battling over oil and gas leases in the area. In the 1980s two large energy companies acquired oil and gas leases on almost two-thirds of the B2M area. Fortunately, however, the U.S. Department of the Interior stepped in and suspended the leases until a cultural resources inventory could be completed, and then placed a moratorium on new drilling in the area.
In 2006, Senator Max Baucus passed legislation with bipartisan support to prohibit future federal energy leasing along the Rocky Mountain Front as well as providing tax incentives for lease holders to sell or donate their Front leases. The law also prohibits re-leasing of an existing lease that expires or is retired. Since the lease withdrawal legislation became law approximately 110,800 acres (much of it in the B2M) of what was more than 152,000 acres leased by the federal government for energy development along Montana's Front have been permanently retired.
At issue now is the Hall Creek lease, which is highly contested. This lease threatens the ecological integrity of Glacier NP and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. It also could set a dangerous precedent whereby the authority of federal agencies to suspend leases is weakened or overruled by the courts.
The Blackfeet Tribal Business Council, the Tribal Historic Preservation Office and the B2M Committee have all gone on record in opposition to oil/gas development in the Badger. They have urged the federal government and Montana's delegation to work with lessees to terminate the existing leases.
In September 2015, a federal panel called the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation reccommended that the government cancel the suspended lease. The council analyzed the effects of drilling on the historic and cultural value of the land, and its recommendation will be considered by the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which will make the final decision.

Two Medicine entrance to Glacier National Park, MT (8-10-13)
This drive travels the 9 miles from the Route-49 intersection to the end of the road at Two Medicine Lake, in the southeastern corner of Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, I forgot to change the camera from wide-angle (used to film sunrise time lapses) to medium-angle, so the edges have a bit of a fish-eye effect and the hood of the car is visible. On the other hand, more mountains were in frame peripherally! The Two Medicine area of the park used to be much busier in the early years of the park (visitors got off the train in East Glacier, spent their first night at the Lodge, then rode horseback by trail to spend the next night at the Two Medicine Chalets before continuing on to Cut Bank and on through the park, with chalets built a day's ride apart). Nowadays, it doesn't bustle quite so much, but it's still a popular place to hike (on this day, we rode the tour boat to the foot of Two Medicine Lake and then hiked to Dawson Pass ... amazing!).

Glacier Park Lodge - East Glacier Park, Montana
This video gives an overview of the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier Park Montana. This 100-years-old hotel is wonderful and located very close to the Amtrak Station in East Glacier Park. There are no TV's or Internet connection in the rooms, so everyone tends to hang out in the huge lobby areas, which I think is great!! Everyone is very friendly to each other, with people hanging out everywhere playing games and doing puzzles (provided by the hotel), chatting, eating, drinking, browsing the gift shop, and enjoying the great scenery. At night, they also have live music. Heather and Nolan played chess both against each other and others at the hotel who asked if they could play. It was really fun. They basically did this until our train arrived at midnight (late, as all Amtrak trains traveling out in this area are!). There is also a large restaurant and café, which includes a TV. We ate there, and I highly recommend the huckleberry ice cream and pudding! It was so unique and good, and you can only get find it in this area of the United States! We also took a full-day Red Bus Tour, which originated from the hotel. The tour was really fun, though it would have been even more spectacular if Mother Nature could have been cooperative! (it rained the entire day, and a long stretch of Going To the Sun Road was closed due to a recent June Blizzard!!). I loved the cute red bus. I had to get a replica one from the gift shop. :)
