Winter in New Hampshire: Where the Lakes Meet the Mountains
nhlakesrealty.com | 888-737-5550
New Hampshire doesn’t lack for great sights and sounds year round – but Winter brings out some of the most fantastic reasons to live in the area.
Every year in Alton Bay, a festival is held on the ice of the frozen lakes – the whole town joins in to celebrate, with games, food, music, horse drawn carts, seaplanes – and something you have to see to believe - the Great American Bed Race! The bay truly transforms into a completely different experience, and the chillier it gets, the warmer the sense of community.
Gunstock Mountain, a popular spot for hiking, camping and zip lining in the warmer months, is JUST as well known for its abundance of slopes for advanced and novice skiers.
And the tubing rides are famous in the region - huge fun for entire families! For the truly adventurous, check out the single-track Nordic snowshoe trails hidden deep in the mountains.
Wolfeboro’s Rockwellian charm shines even brighter in winter. The Abenaki Ski Area has seven diverse trails, and the Skating Arena opens in October if you prefer ice over snow. Dining options are terrific and distinctive; at Wolfe’s Tavern, established in 1812, you can taste over a hundred types of beer.
In the White Mountains, the vast, unspoiled territory offers unlimited opportunities to explore and get away.
Get ready to cover a lot of ground with a little more horsepower – this is an amazing place for snowmobiling and trailblazing.
Or, for those who like quieter, more romantic excursions through the frozen woods, there are other options as well. Whatever you do, don’t forget your camera.
There’s so much more – Sled Dog Racing, Pond Hockey, Ice Fishing Derbies - Where the lakes meet the mountains - each day and night is pure magic.

Every year the Alton Bay Seaplane Base (B18) in New Hampshire becomes the only official airport in the continental United States with an ice runway, which attracts pilots from all over to the small community of Alton on the south shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. Learn more at
It's perhaps the quintessential example of the unique and awesome destination experiences only general aviation offers, and it's super accessible in any type of aircraft. It makes a great $100 hamburger or an excuse to visit from thousands of miles away.
Also, since flying yourself is such an awesome way to travel, I tried giving this video more of a travel #vlog or travel video vibe than my previous flight vlogs. I'll probably alternate between the two to showcase both how exciting things in the cockpit can be, while also highlighting the incredibly unique lifestyle experiences aviation offers like this. It's basically the affordable (and much more fun) version of private jet travel. Let me know what you think in the comments.

I've been flying since I was 16 and at age 19 flew around the world by myself in the same 1981 A36 Beechcraft Bonanza I still fly, becoming the youngest person ever to solo circumnavigate by aircraft.
Now, I'm sharing all kinds of aviation adventures with YOU! Ride along as we explore the world from the air and get a close up look at some of aviation's best flight experiences and destinations.

Winnipesaukee Lake- A windy day at Ellacoya State Park
Discover New England - Great Beaches & Parks
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The biggest lake in New Hampshire. We visited this park on a windy afternoon of mid September 2015. The park is beautiful and clean. The lake is so big. We didn't have a chance to swim but the waves were so great, we are looking forward to next summer when the weather is warm enough to jump right in to the water.
