Huay xai, the capital provincial of Bokeo, sits on the bank of the mekong river. Like most minor cities in Laos, several temples built in earlier centuries and surrounding villages seem to be the only attractions. however, Bokeo's real economic strength is tourism.
A holiday among a network of hunts and shelters built on top of trees is a decidedly appealing one. it is a perfect spot where one can observe the forest's rare inhabitants from above. Besides fascinating attractions and delightful activities, houay xai is also
known as the gateway to explore the rest of Laos. it is a famous stopover spot for most arrivals before boarding a boat and heading southeast to pak Beng and Luang prabang. A trip up north on Bokeo's winding and bumpy roads will lead to Luang namtha and beyond.
The Darkside of Tourism - Vang Vieng; Laos
A town build and dismantled by tourism; Vang Vieng laos. Roughly 10 years ago, a group of backpackers grabbed some extra tire tubes and hopped into the river of this sleepy traditional Laos village. Locals started selling snacks and drinks to the increasing number of floaters, which escalated the town into a massive party destination for international backpackers. Now Laos faces criticism for the average of 22 deaths, and countless injuries every year from mainly young tourists on the river. Alcohol, drugs, and swift currents are the main reasons for fatalities, so during my visit the town was on hold, pending a conference discussing safety concerns in the Laos capital of Vientiane. I wished I could have experienced the famed river float in full swing, but It was also nice to see a community that was attempting to transform their brute party tourism into responsible/sustainable travel.
Tham Kong Lor (Kong Lor Cave ): A Natural Wonder of Laos
Tham Kong Lor: a 7km-long cave penetrating limestone mountains with a stream of the Hinboun River.
Boat service is available in the dry season (usually November to May). You can land and stroll in the midst of cave for seeing illuminated stalactites.
The other side of the cave there are small villages where you can overnight in the home-stay style. For more information, please contact to local guides at the site.
