Monteriggioni is a comune in the province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany. It borders on the communes of Casole d'Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Colle di Val d'Elsa, Poggibonsi, Siena and Sovicille.[2] The town is architecturally and culturally significant; it hosts several piazzas, and is referenced in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, as well as a playable locale in Ubisoft's video game installments Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Monteriggioni is a medieval walled town, located on a natural hillock, built by the Sienese in 1214–19 as a front line in their wars against Florence,[3] by assuming command of the Via Cassia running through the Val d'Elsa and Val Staggia to the west.
During the conflicts between Siena and Florence in the Middle Ages, the city was strategically placed as a defensive fortification. It also withstood many attacks from both the Florentines and the forces of the Bishop of Volterra. In 1554 the Sienese were able to place control of the town's garrison to Giovannino Zeti, who had been exiled from Florence. In 1554, in an act of reconciliation with the Medicis, Zeti simply handed the keys of the town over to the Medicean forces - considered a great betrayal by the town's people. From Wikipedia

Bracciano is a small town in the Italian region of Lazio, 30 kilometres northwest of Rome. The town is famous for its volcanic lake and for a particularly well-preserved medieval castle Castello Orsini-Odescalchi. The lake is widely used for sailing and is popular with tourists; the castle has hosted a number of events, especially weddings of actors and singers. The town is served by an urban railway (Line FR3) which connects it with Rome (stations of Ostiense and Valle Aurelia) in about 55 minutes. Close to it lie the two medieval towns of Anguillara Sabazia and Trevignano Romano.
There is no certain information about the origins of Bracciano, on the Via Cassia overlooking the lake. It probably rose from one of the numerous towers built in the tenth century as a defence against the Saracen attacks, as implied by the ancient name of Castrum Brachiani. In the eleventh century the neighbouring territory was acquired by the Prefetti di Vico family, who turned the tower into a castle. Ferdinand Gregorovius dated the possession of Bracciano by the Orsini to 1234. The area was later acquired by the Roman hospital of Santo Spirito in Sassia and, from 1375, was a Papal possession.
In 1419 the Colonna Pope Martin V confirmed the fief of Bracciano in the Orsini family branch of Tagliacozzo. Under this powerful family the city developed into a flourishing town, famous in the whole of Italy for its castle, which was enlarged, starting from 1470, by Napoleone Orsini and his son Virginio. In 1481 it housed Pope Sixtus IV, who had fled from the plague in Rome; the Sala Papalina in one of the corner towers commemorates the event. Four years later, however, the city and the castle were ravaged by Papal troops under Prospero Colonna, and subsequently a new line of walls was built.
The main monument of Bracciano is its castle, Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, one of the most noteworthy examples of Renaissance military architecture in Italy. 3 km (2 mi) outside the city, alongside the road leading to Trevignano Romano, is the ancient church of San Liberato (ninth century). It occupies what was once the Roman settlement of Forum Clodii, now surrounded by an herb garden, part of the complex of English-style gardens at the adjoining Villa San Librato, designed by Russell Page in 1965 for the art historian conte Donato Sanminatelli and his contessa, Maria Odescalchi, and carried out over the following decade.
On the same road are the ruins of the Aquae Apollinaris, a complex of baths famous in the Roman age. At Vigna di Valle, next to the lake, the former seaplane base today houses the Italian Air Force Museum. The museum's four hangars hold a number of historical military aircraft, including famous planes such as the MC. 202, the Supermarine Spitfire, the Savoia Marchetti S.79, the F-104 Starfighter, the Caproni Ca.100 and the Panavia Tornado. Also on view is a remarkable collection of three Schneider Cup racers, including the Macchi M.C.72. The museum stages an annual 'Giornata Azzura' airshow at Pratica di Mare airport.

SAN GUSME’ (CASTELNUOVO BERARDENGA, SIENA, ITALY)
S.Gusmè, borgo medioevale e frazione del comune di Castelnuovo Berardenga, provincia di Siena, Toscana, Italia. E’ ubicato all'inizio della strada provinciale che collega la statale 484 al Valdarno sul crinale di una collina. Si tratta di un piccolo agglomerato conservato nelle sue mura circolari ancora quasi totalmente integre. All'interno si trovano la chiesa parrocchiale intitolata ai santi Cosma e Damiano e la chiesa della Compagnia intitolata alla S.Annunziata, che ospita una tela attribuita a Pietro Sorri ed adornata dal tipico campanile. Appena fuori dal paese sono ubicate le sorgenti del fiume Ombrone. S.Gusmè viene citato per la prima volta in un atto di vendita del febbraio 867 in cui il conte senese Winigi di Ranieri dona al monastero di S.Salvatore della Berardenga tutti i suoi beni compresi nei dintorni della chiesa dei santi Cosma e Damiano. Nel XII secolo il paese era un feudo della famiglia Ricasoli, confermato dall' imperatore Arrigo VI nel 1187. Nel 1478 le truppe di re Alfonso di Aragona occuparono il castello. Nel corso della guerra di Siena il 25 febbraio 1554 si tenne uno scontro militare tra gli imperiali e i senesi, mentre il 13 maggio 1554 l'esercito imperiale saccheggiò e bruciò il paese. S.Gusmè fu anche la sede di una comunità autonoma che venne riunita al comune di Castelnuovo Berardenga il 2 giugno 1777. Una tradizione locale è la Festa del Luca Cava, una iniziativa intitolata a una statuetta fatta costruire nel 1888 da un contadino della zona, che rappresentava un ometto nella tipica posizione del bisogno corporale e serviva ad indicare che era ben accetto farla lì, così da poter usare il refluo come fertilizzante per gli orti. La statua fu distrutta intorno agli anni '40 proprio dai sangusmeini, stanchi delle prese in giro della gente dei paesi vicini, ma quando Silvio Gigli conobbe la storia fece realizzare una nuova statua su disegno di Emilio Giannelli, noto vignettista, e in terracotta del maestro Neri delle ceramiche S.Caterina di Siena. Da quell'anno ebbe inizio la Festa in onore di Luca Cava, che grazie all'interessamento di Gigli poteva annoverare tra gli ospiti nomi di spicco del panorama musicale italiano. La festa ha avuto 10 anni di interruzione tra il 1988 ed il 1998, per poi proseguire da allora fino ai giorni nostri tutti i primi due fine settimana di settembre ed ha il suo clou nel premio giornalistico intitolato a Silvio Gigli ed assegnato ogni anno ad un personaggio di spicco del mondo televisivo nazionale. The Amalfi Coast lies in the southwestern region of Campania, Italy. For its extraordinary beauty and its iconic medieval cliffside Mediterranean fishing villages, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Amalfi Coast is a stunning beauty with its steep sloped lemon tree gardens and coloured terrace houses and stunning views and azure sea. It is south east of Naples starting from Sorrento stretching almost to Salerno. Along the coast line you will find places like Amalfi or Ravello, each of them stunning beauties with their own flair. The Amalfi Coast is a well known secret to German and American tourists and prices are high compared to nearby Naples.
During the 10th-11th centuries, the Duchy of Amalfi existed on the territory of the Amalfi Coast, centered in the town of Amalfi. The Amalfi coast was later controlled by the Principality of Salerno, until Amalfi was sacked by the Republic of Pisa in 1137. Since then the Amalfi coast has experienced a crisis. But after the unification of Italy the Amalfi coast has enjoyed a huge economic revival, prompted even by the international tourism.
Like the rest of the region, the Amalfi Coast lies in a Mediterranean climate, featuring warm summers and mild winters. It is located on the relatively steep southern shore of the Sorrentine Peninsula, leaving little room for rural and agricultural territories.
The Amalfi Coast is known for its production of limoncello liqueur as the area is a known cultivator of lemons which are grown in terraced gardens along the entire coast between February and October. Amalfi is also a known maker of a hand-made thick paper which is called bambagina. Other renowned local products are a particular kind of anchovies from Cetara, and the colorful handmade ceramics from Vietri.

Vertine was a castle during the 11th century. During the successive centuries it was reduced to a village of stone rural homes as we see today. In the church of the village conserves fragments of a 15th century frescoe Pietà. Other works of arts by Simone Martini and Bicci di Lorenzo were now kept at the Siena museum. In origins it has 7 towers. Now we only see one. All around are hills covered with olives and grapevines. Here they produce the famous wine Castello di Vertine A Gallo Nero Classico label.
