Initially built as a defensive structure in the 12th century, Ogrodzieniec Castle is now a remarkable stone ruin in a Polish town of the same name.
The castle still contains traces of its Gothic foundation, but its 16th century Renaissance restorations are the dominant features.
Certain segments of the castle are constructed from the local limestone supply.
The castle is a stop on the Eagles' Nests Trail which stretches across south Poland, following a strain of twenty-five ancient ruins.
Parts of the castle are built into the cliffs or stand on tall walls of limestone.
Though the castle is a mere shadow of its former splendor, it is still a breathtaking site to explore.
Kraków (Poland)
Kraków (also Cracow, or Krakow) is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River (Polish: Wisła) in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century. Kraków has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, cultural, and artistic life and is one of Poland's most important economic hubs.
Kraków is classified as a global city by GaWC, with the ranking of High sufficiency. Cited as one of Europe's most beautiful cities, its extensive cultural heritage across the epochs of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture includes the Wawel Cathedral and the Royal Castle on the banks of the Vistula river, the St. Mary's Basilica and the largest medieval market square in Europe, the Rynek Główny. Kraków is home to Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest universities in the world and traditionally Poland's most reputable institution of higher learning.
In 2000, Kraków was named European Capital of Culture. The city will also host the next World Youth Day in 2016. The metropolitan city of Kraków is known as the city of churches.
Kraków is divided into 18 administrative districts (dzielnica) or boroughs, each with a degree of autonomy within its own municipal government. Prior to March 1991, the city had been divided into four quarters which still give a sense of identity to Kraków – the towns of Podgórze, Nowa Huta, and Krowodrza which were absorbed by Kraków as it expanded, and the ancient town centre of Kraków itself.
Matejko Square at Kleparz is one of the city's more important public spaces.
The oldest neighborhoods of Kraków were incorporated into the city before the late 18th century. They include the Old Town (Stare Miasto), once contained within the city defensive walls and now encircled by the Planty park; the Wawel District, which is the site of the Royal Castle and the cathedral; Stradom and Kazimierz, the latter originally divided into Christian and Jewish quarters; as well as the ancient town of Kleparz.
Major landmarks include the Main Market Square with St. Mary's Basilica and the Sukiennice Cloth Hall, the Wawel Castle, the National Art Museum, the Zygmunt Bell at the Wawel Cathedral, and the medieval St Florian's Gate with the Barbican along the Royal Coronation Route. Kraków has 28 museums and public art galleries. Among them are the main branch of Poland's National Museum and the Czartoryski Museum, the latter featuring works by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt.
Public transport is based on a fairly dense network of tram and bus lines operated by a municipal company, supplemented by a number of private minibus operators. Local trains connect some of the suburbs. The bulk of the city's historic area has been turned into a pedestrian zone with rickshaws and horse buggies; however, the tramlines run within a three-block radius.The historic means of transportation in the city can be examined at the Museum of Municipal Engineering in the Kazimierz district, with many old trams, cars and buses.
Rail connections are available to most Polish cities. Trains to Warsaw depart every hour. International destinations include Berlin, Budapest, Prague, Hamburg, Lviv, Kiev, and Odessa (June–September).The main railway station is located just outside the Old Town District and is well-served by public transport.
Kraków's airport (John Paul II International Airport Kraków–Balice) is 11 km (7 mi) west of the city. Direct trains cover the route between Kraków Główny train station and the airport in 15 minutes. The Katowice International Airport is located about 75 minutes from Kraków.
Narrow streets, horses, Wawel, Old Town, Kazimierz and friendly people... Krakow is very atmospheric city. One of the oldest in Poland and definitely one of the most beautiful. Perfect city for families as well as for active youth. Everybody will find something interesting to do in this city, although it's not very big. I highly recommend Krakow for a weekend if you want to feel the real atmosphere and hospitality of Poland :)

As one travels towards the Slovakian border from Kraków, there is an excellent road south from Myslenice and there is also the feel that you are heading towards an upland area! The ideal place for a camper van!
I bought this camper van in January 2011 having taken a very long time to choose what I wanted as well as needing a lot of time for something to become available. However I am very happy with it. Here I give some advice based on my experience and what people have told me about choosing a camper van. In other videos I will explain some other aspects of camper van life.
Here I present a journey in May 2012 from Warsaw in Poland to Eger in Hungary. As I travel I explain some of the things I see from the point of view of a British business person, economist, historian and camper van fan!

Witam serdecznie! To jest właśnie pierwszy film z kolejowej operacji Budapeszt.To moja pierwsza międzynarodowa trasa. Film nagrałem w Sobotę 20.04.2019 z pociągu EC 114,,Cracovia, relacji Kraków Główny-Praha hlavni nádraží/Budapest Nyugati. Pociąg prowadzony był przez lokomotywy EU07-324 PKP IC na odcinku Kraków Główny-Bohumín oraz 380 018-2 Škoda ČD na odcinku Bohumín - Budapest Nyugati. Na odcinku Kraków Główny-Bohumín ,frekwencja była taka, że sam jechałem w wagonie. Mam obawy, iż przy którejś korekcie rozkładu jazdy, wagony do Budapesztu ,zostaną wycofane. Pociąg ma w zestawieniu ,także wagony do Pragi. Tak czy inaczej, zapraszam do obejrzenia filmu!

The train was run by locomotives EU07-324 PKP IC on the section Kraków Główny-Bohumín and 380 018-2 on the cycle Bohumín - Budapest Nyugati.On the section Kraków Główny-Bohumín, the turnout was such that I was traveling alone in the wagon.I am afraid that with some adjustment schedules,wagons to Budapest will be withdrawn.The train is in the statement, also cars to Praha.Anyway, I invite you to watch the movie.

Steam locomotive (class Ol49, number 111) working Poznan to Wolsztyn passenger trains.
Clips 1 and 2 were recorded on the footplate shortly after leaving Pozan on the 0810 from Poznan Glowny to Wolsztyn. Recorded 21st May 2003.
Clip 3 (from 0:58) was recorded the next day (22nd May 2003) and shows the same loco leaving Poznan Glowny on the same train.

PKP class Ol49 was a class of ordinary passenger (O) 2-6-2 (l) steam engine designed in 1949 and used in Poland by the Polskie Koleje Państwowe (Polish State Railways) (PKP). A total of 116 were built between 1951 and 1954, 112 for the PKP and four for export to North Korea, by Fablok in Chrzanów. They replaced the older Ok1 and Ok22.
Several examples are still in use, based out of Wolsztyn, while others have been mounted at various locations across Poland. At least one example has been exported for preservation and can be found at Stoomcentrum Maldegem in Belgium.
The 'Wolsztyn Experience' website currently reports that loco Ol49-111 is in dismantled condition at Leszno and is unlikely to be re-assembled.

Wolsztyn (German: Wollstein) is a town in western Poland. It is the seat of Wolsztyn County, and of the smaller administrative district of Gmina Wolsztyn. Wolsztyn is famous as the location of a locomotive roundhouse, which is the last place in Europe to supply steam locomotives for regular, timetabled train services on the national railway network. These services run to Poznan. The site also includes a railway museum featuring restored locomotives. An annual parade of locomotives takes place at the start of May -- the 2007 event, which also celebrated the roundhouse's centenary, attracted 20,000 visitors.
Wolsztyn also includes a large lake (Jezioro Wolsztyńskie; Wolsztyn Lake), next to which is a former palace (built in Classical style in the early 20th century, and now used as a hotel and restaurant), and a park. The town has a parish church dating from the 18th century, as well as several other museums.

Poznan (Latin: Posnania; German: Posen) is a city on the river in west-central Poland, with a population of 551,627 in the end of 2010, the city with its suburbs form the largest metropolitan area in western Poland. Poznań is among the oldest cities in Poland, and was one of the most important centres in the early Polish state, whose first rulers were buried at Poznań's cathedral. It is claimed to be the first capital of the kingdom of Poland. Poznań is now Poland's fifth largest city. It is the historical capital of the Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) region, and is currently the administrative capital of the province called Greater Poland Voivodeship.
Poznań is today one of the largest Polish centers of trade, industry, sports, education, tourism and culture. More recently it also claims to be an important design center as a number of initiatives were undertaken: Concordia Design, Poznan School of Form, Art&Fashion Festival to mention only a few. Poznań is also becoming a know-how hub with many technological parks and transfer of knowledge centers (the oldest one started in 1995 is Poznan Science and Technology Park.
The city hosts regular international trade fairs and was the host city for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in December 2008, a key stage in the creation of a successor to the Kyoto Protocol. Poznań was one of the host cities for the association football tournament UEFA Euro 2012. The city also hosts a number of rowing world cup events by the Malta lake (for example ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 1990, 2001, and again in 2010). Also, a great number of various international festivals takes place in the city - Transatlantyk -- Poznań International Film and Music Festival, Malta International Theater Festival and Maski Festival to name just a few.
In 2012 the Poznan's Art and Business Center Old Brewery (Stary Browar) won a competition organized by National Geographic Traveler and was given the first prize as one of the seven New Polish Wonders. Poznań has been placed at high positions (very often the first one in Poland) in many ratings as a city with a very high quality of life.[1][2] The city has also won many times a prize awarded by Superbrands for a very high quality brand of city of Poznań (city as a brand).
Poznan along with two other Polish cities Wrocław and Kraków were classified in 2010 as high sufficiency cities by Globalization and World Cities Research Network and thus they all have a chance to become global cities in a near future given their fast development pace.

Mury miejskie i barbakan warszawski - sfilmowane o 12:25 15 sierpnia 2017. Obecny barbakan warszawski jest prawie w całości rekonstrukcją powojenną, jednak z wykorzystaniem oryginalnych fundamentów i elementów murów. Rekonstrukcję wykonano na podstawie rycin z XVI wieku. The Warsaw Barbican (Polish: barbakan warszawski) is a barbican (semicircular fortified outpost) in Warsaw, Poland, and one of few remaining relics of the complex network of historic fortifications that once encircled Warsaw. Located between the Old and New Towns, it is a major tourist attraction. The barbican was erected in 1540 in place of an older gate to protect Nowomiejska Street. During World War II, particularly the Siege of Warsaw (1939) and the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, the barbican was largely destroyed, as were most of the Old Town's buildings. It was rebuilt after the war, during 1952–1954, on the basis of 17th-century etchings, as the new government decided it would be cheaper to rebuild the barbican and the nearby city walls as a tourist attraction than to rebuild the tenements. In its reconstruction, bricks were used from historic buildings demolished in the cities of Nysa and Wrocław; most of the barbican was rebuilt, save for two exterior gates and the oldest tower on the side of the Old Town. It is currently a popular tourist attraction.
