Freilichtmuseum Stübing, Steiermark - Austria HD Travel Channel
The Austrian open-air museum Stuebing in Austria is in a narrow valley 9 miles north of Graz in Styria, Austria. It is one of the 10 largest and most impressive open-air museums in Europe and ranks among the top 5 destinations in Styria. About a hundred original historic rural buildings from the different provinces of Austria were collected and rebuilt. Besides farms of all styles from all regions, a school, a grocery store, several mills and an armory have been restored. The original craftsmanship is carried out during days of action. Domestic animals are kept in the summer and let the valley and the farm yards come to life. The buildings in Stübing depict the life of our ancestors, who have lived modestly and perhaps more contentedly. A visit to the museum is an experience for the whole family. During the year there are always interesting events for young and old take place. The open-air museum Stuebing is opened from April until October, daily from 9-17 hours. 15 km nördlich von Graz in der Steiermark schmiegt sich das österreichische Freilichtmuseum in Stübing in ein schmales Tal. Es ist eines der 10 größten und beeindruckendsten Freilichtmuseen Europas und zählt zu den 5 besten Ausflugszielen in der Steiermark. Rund hundert originale bäuerliche Gebäude aus ganz Österreich wurden zusammengetragen und wieder aufgebaut. Neben Bauernhäuser aller Stilrichtungen aus sämtlichen Regionen, wurden eine Schule, ein Kaufmannsladen, mehrere Mühlen und ein Zeughaus restauriert. Es finden auch Aktionstage statt, an denen ursprüngliche Handwerkskünste durchgeführt werden. Im Sommer werden heimische Tiere gehalten, die das Tal und die Höfe mit Leben erfüllen. Die Bauten in Stübing lassen das Leben unserer Ahnen, die bescheidener und vielleicht zufriedener lebten, anschaulich werden. Ein Besuch im Freilichtmuseum ist ein Erlebnis für die ganze Familie. Austrian Open Air Museum Stuebing - 2/2
Strolling in the Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing, it's as if you're traveling through the country back in time. Established in 1970, on a small hill southwest of Vienna, the museum covers 150 acres of land, all for displaying 97 historical buildings such as wooden homesteads, granaries and kilns, showing different styles of construction in various parts of the country over the last six centuries. It is among the biggest 10 open-air museums in Europe and has gained reputation as a national treasure of Austria.
Presenting stories behind the ancient woodcrafts and houses in the museum, our tour was guided by Sebastian Nemestothy, a researcher from the Institute of Wood Science and Technology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. Nemestothy is currently working on research projects that look into the buildings in the museum to investigate traditional wood usage in Austria.

Im Zentrum der Steiermark liegt eine Stadtgemeinde, die seit ihrer ersten urkundlichen Erwähnung vor über 1000 Jahren nichts an ihrer schon damals richtungsweisenden Bedeutung verloren hat. Hoch von der Ruine Massenburg herab blicken wir auf Leoben. Seit dem Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts blickten Herrscher, nun abgelöst von Touristen, auf die Eisenhandelsstadt an der Mur. Bei diesem Blick stechen gleich die zahlreichen Kirchen Leobens ins Auge. Über das einzig erhalten gebliebene Stadttor, den Mauttorturm -- vielen durch seine pilzförmige Haube als Schwammerlturm eher geläufig -- erreichen wir das Zentrum Leobens. Das Wappen, ein Vogelstrauß mit zwei Hufeisen, leitet sich der Legende nach von dem angeblich Eisen fressenden Tier ab. Leoben trifft mitten ins Herz. Der romantische und autofreie Hauptplatz bietet eine perfekte Symbiose aus Geschichte und Moderne. Alte Handwerkskunst trifft wie hier am Kunsthandwerksmarkt auf neues Design. Zukunftsweisende Architektur im Einklang mit historischen Prachtbauten. Das Hacklhaus mit seiner Barockfassade ist ebenso Blickfang wie wohl das bedeutendste historische Gebäude am Hauptplatz. Das Alte Rathaus mit seinem fünfseitigen Turm wurde in den 90er Jahren zum Kongresszentrum umfunktioniert. Unmittelbar hinter dem bunten Treiben am Bauernmarkt öffnen sich für uns die Tore der ehemaligen Jesuitenkirche und heutigen Stadtpfarrkirche St. Xaver. Ein imposanter Innenraum und prachtvolle Altäre in Schwarz und Gold gehalten lassen diese dem heiligen Xaver gewidmete Glaubensstätte in stetem Glanz erstrahlen. Seit 1998 finden in der Kunsthalle regelmäßig kulturhistorische Ausstellungen mit internationalen Partnern statt, die in der Zwischenzeit mehr als 1 Million Besucher nach Leoben brachten. Geschichte und Moderne verschmelzen hier einmal mehr und lassen uns am Rad der Zeit drehen. Erzherzog Johann gründete die weltweit anerkannte Montanuniversität in Leoben. Heute befinden sich in unmittelbarer Umgebung zu diesem historischen Gebäude zahlreiche Komplexe moderner Architektur, die ausreichend Platz für Studierende bieten. Weltweit bekannt und allseits beliebt ist die Brauerei Göss. Bereits im Mittelalter wurde hier Bier gebraut. Noch heute lassen die Gemäuer erahnen, wie sich die Erfolgsgeschichte des obersteirischen Bieres entwickelt hat. Heute zählt die Brauerei Göss zu den modernsten Brauereien Österreichs. Doch neben all den aufregenden Plätzen in Leoben finden wir entlang der Mur oder in zahlreichen Parks und Gärten auch Ruhe und Entspannung. Vor allem das Asia Spa bietet Erholung auf höchstem Niveau.
