Crater Lake National Park, Oregon, USA in 4K (Ultra HD)
Crater Lake is a stunningly beautiful lake, formed in volcano caldera, after the volcano collapsed 7,700 years ago. The lake is deep almost 2000 ft/600 m, it is 5 mi/8 km across its shorter side, a little more on the longer one.
Enjoy views of the lake with its incredible blue color from a boat, from the top of Wizard Island, the Rim Trail and the surrounding peaks - Mt Scott, Garfield Peak and the Watchman.

Hello! My name is Nathan Cooper, I work at the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, and I come from the beautiful state of Oregon. It's a state with majestic natural resources and a fiercely independent character.
Before I talk a bit more extensively about the state's history and culture, let me quickly dispel three common misconceptions about my home state: First, many people often guess Oregon is somewhere in the middle of the country. Actually, Oregon is on the West Coast of the United States, just above California.
Second, although you may have heard it called Or-ee-GONE, locals pronounce it ORE-gun.
And last, contrary to what weather maps often depict, Oregon is not the wettest, rainiest place in America (that's actually in Hawaii).
Oregon is perhaps most famous for its dramatic and diverse landscape. Its rugged coastline contains sprawling beaches and a fascinating array of marine life, including noisy sea lions and vibrant tide pools.
The Western half of the state is dominated by the volcanic Cascade mountain range. There you'll find famous peaks like Mt. Hood, dense evergreen forests and rushing rivers. The western Willamette Valley is also home to the state's two largescities, Portland and Eugene, as well as a world-class winemaking region. And a vashigh-elevation desert covers the eastern half of the state.
Southern Oregon's Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the US. It was formed by a collapsed volcano in the Cascades. These kinds of natural resources have attracted explorers and adventurers to Oregon since its earliest days.
Archeologists have found evidence of human settlements in what is now know as Oregon dating back at least 15,000 years. Large numbers of Native American groups, including the Umpqua, Molalla, Klamath, and Chinook called area home in the 1500s when Spanish explorers first encountered the Oregon coast in 1543.
Centuries later, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned explorers Lewis and Clark to cross the continent in search of a commercial route for trade with Asia. In 1806 they reached what is now known as Oregon. Lewis and Clark's successful continental crossing lead to Oregon joining the Union in 1859. They're still considered Oregon's forefathers.
OK, that's probably enough of a history lesson. Now for a bit of trivia: In no particular order, here are a few other things you might find surprising about Oregon: It's the only state with an official nut—the hazelnut, which is also sometimes called a filbert. It's the home of Nike. The global capital of wind surfing is Hood River, Oregon, on the banks of the Columba River. Oregon has more ghost towns than anywhere else in the former Wild West. Oregon also has some strangely-named communities. My favorites include the towns of Weed, Drain, Nimrod, and Boring. Oregon is physically the 7th largest American state, but ranks only 29 in terms of population.
Politically, Oregon is both extremely independent and strongly polarized. Oregonians
pioneered direct legislation by the state's citizens through ballot initiatives and referenda,
a system now used throughout the nation. This democratic device allowed Oregonians
to go against the national grain with policies like banning self-pumping at gas stations
and doing away with sales taxes. Oregon's independent streak comes through clearly in
the state's motto: She flies with her own wings.
Consensus among citizens in Oregon is hard to come by, as recent studies have shown
Oregonians to represent some of the most extremely liberal and conservative voters in
the nation.
Although Oregonians are generally a pretty low-key bunch, more than a few famous
people have come from state, including President Herbert Hoover; the actors Sally
Struthers, Kim Novak, and Ginger Rogers; the track star Steve Prefontaine; and the
writers Ken Kesey and Raymond Carver.

This is where Linda,Freda,Flash and I spent most of our time. Pacific City is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,027 at the 2000 census. Pacific City's main attraction is the Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area. The Thousand Trails camp ground was absolutely beautiful.

Nevada: Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States. Lying at 6,225 ft (1,897 m), it straddles the state line between California and Nevada, west of Carson City. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, and at 122,160,280 acre⋅ft (150,682,490 dam3) trails only the five Great Lakes as the largest by volume in the United States. Its depth is 1,645 ft (501 m), making it the second deepest in the United States after Crater Lake in Oregon (1,945 ft (593 m)).
The lake was formed about two million years ago as part of the Lake Tahoe Basin, with the modern extent being shaped during the ice ages. It is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe. More than 75% of the lake's watershed is national forest land, comprising the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the United States Forest Service.
Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction in both Nevada and California. It is home to winter sports, summer outdoor recreation, and scenery enjoyed throughout the year. Snow and ski resorts are a significant part of the area's economy and reputation. The Nevada side also offers large casinos, with highways providing year-round access to the entire area.
Approximately two-thirds of the shoreline is in California. The south shore is dominated by the lake's largest city, South Lake Tahoe, California, which adjoins the town of Stateline, Nevada, while Tahoe City, California, is located on the lake's northwest shore. Although highways run within sight of the lake shore for much of Tahoe's perimeter, many important parts of the shoreline lie within state parks or are protected by the United States Forest Service. The Lake Tahoe Watershed (USGS Huc 18100200) of 505 sq mi (1,310 km2) includes the land area that drains to the lake and the Lake Tahoe drainage divide traverses the same general area as the Tahoe Rim Trail.
Lake Tahoe is fed by 63 tributaries. These drain an area about the same size as the lake and produce half its water, with the balance entering as rain or snow falling directly on it.
The Truckee River is the lake's only outlet, flowing northeast through Reno, Nevada, into Pyramid Lake which has no outlet. It accounts for one third of the water that leaves the lake, the rest evaporating from the lake's vast surface. The flow of the Truckee River and the height of the lake are controlled by the Lake Tahoe Dam at the outlet. The natural rim is at 6,223 ft (1,897 m) above sea level, with a spillway at the dam controlling overflow. The maximum legal limit, to which the lake can be allowed to rise in order to store water, is at 6,229.1 ft (1,898.6 m). Around New Year 1996/1997 a Pineapple Express atmospheric river melted snow and caused the lake and river to overflow, inundating Reno and surrounding areas.
The 1974 film The Godfather Part II used the lakeside estate Fleur de Lac as the location of several scenes, including the elaborate First Communion celebration, the Senator's shakedown attempt of Michael, the assassination attempt on Michael, Michael disowning Fredo, Carmela Corleone's funeral, Fredo's death while fishing, and the closing scene of Michael sitting alone outside.
SIBERIA - Summertime Baikal Lake

The nature has its own favorites, which it creates with a special love and care and to whom it gives a special power. A lake that bears the majestic name of Baikal is definitely one of those. It is not a place for hustle and bustle. Here you feel like thinking about eternity and the world's harmony. Situated in the center of Asia, the Baikal is one of the biggest and most ancient lakes on our planet, and a miracle of Siberian nature. Besides its natural uniqueness, Baikal possesses many historical treasures, which stand as cultural monuments to the past of the people of the Central Asia. Today, as in the past, Baikal remains a crossroads of cultures, where native Sayats still herd reindeers and Buryat people keep many of their old traditions. The gateway to Mongolia makes it possible to get to know the ancient and amazing Mongolian culture. It is difficult to define the origin of the name Baikal. One of the theories shows a connection with the Yakut word baigal, which means a sea or a lake, and which, probably, was later used by Buryats. Upon the arrival of Russians in the region, the word baigal was taken from the Buryat language and transformed into Baikal.
Baikal contains more than 1/5 of the world's reserves of fresh water. It is the world's deepest lake (with an average depth of 730m, and the maximum of 1620m). Just imagine: if you were to drain lake Baikal, it would take all the Great Lakes of the United States (Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario) to refill the empty basin!!!
The uniqueness of Baikal lies in its unusual process of self-purification, due to three factors: the depth of the lake, its huge volume of water, and its geographical position. This process produces unbelievably clear water. In fact, travel guides report that this has caused some problems with visitors who feel uncomfortable when they peer over the side of the boat and are able to see 50 meters downward. Only Crater Lake in Oregon, USA, possibly exceeds the clarity of the waters of Baikal.
Baikal's water, famous for its spiritual and medicinal qualities, is called live water. One glimpse at Baikal water is enough to convince anyone that nature not only exists in Siberia, but flourishes. Unlike all the other deep lakes, where the depths are dead, Lake Baikal's deep waters are filled with fresh oxygen. Only five years ago scientists discovered the thermal springs spurting out from the bottom of Baikal. A release of hot, oxygenated water mixed with perpendicular currents may explain why Baikal waters are so rich in aquatic life.
The water in Baikal is relatively cold. The surface temperature in August in the middle of the lake is about 8 to 10 C, and along the shore line is 14 to 16 degrees C, while at a depth of 50 meters, the temperature is about 5 to 6 degrees C. In the winter, Baikal freezes gradually. The ice on the surface is very thin, only 1 m in most places.
Baikal is beautiful especially during the summer: clear limpid waters, plenty of marvelous bays, picturesque landscape, boundless expanse of forest and mountains. Everybody who enjoys taking pictures will be pleased by the fact that the combination of weather, season, water, different shades of rising and setting sun, makes the Baikal unique and every picture taken a masterpiece. The sunrise in Baikal is never the same!! The colors change so quickly that two very different pictures may be taken at the same place, within just twenty minutes!!!
