The industrious Scots made their mark all over New Zealand, but nowhere is the Caledonian spirit more alive than in Dunedin. Set at the head of the South Island’s Otago Harbour, the city center is shaped by The Octagon.
From here, wander down Stuart Street to New Zealand’s most photographed building, Dunedin Railway Station. Just up the tracks, venture back in time at the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, while just across town is the Otago Museum.
Retracing centuries of history can be thirsty work, so combine a little learning with leisure, at Speight’s Brewery, which has been serving up the Pride of the South since 1876. Then stretch your legs on St Clair Beach, a popular summertime hangout for generations of Dunedinites.
Rent a car and head into the peninsula’s hills to Larnach Castle. Further up the peninsula is the Ōtākou Marae, the hub of Ngāi Tahu cultural life. The peninsula comes to an end at Taiaroa Head, home to the world’s only mainland albatross breeding colony.
In Dunedin’s North, visit rare Yellow Eyed Penguins at Shag Point. Then just up the road at Hampden, marvel at the mysterious Moeraki Boulders. At the historic port town of Omaru, Victorian warehouses have become places where imaginations run free, earning the town the title of The Steampunk Capital of the World.
If it’s total isolation you’re yearning for, turn southward to the sparsely-populated Catlins Coast, and for even more adventures, head west into the rugged interior of Central Otago.

10. The glaciers
The steep and dramatic Fox and Franz Josef glaciers can be explored by glacier hike, ice climbing and helicopter flights landing on the snowfields above.
9. Tree ferns
Zealand has a unique ecosystem, its ubiquitous tree ferns sometimes reaching up to 10m in height and providing shade for more delicate specimens.

Sample fall-off- the-bone pork and chicken along with sweet potatoes and pumpkin, disinterred after several hours' steaming in a Maori earth oven.

A left-hand break that's one of the world's longest, coupled with reliable swells, makes Raglan a prime surfing destination.
6. Moeraki Boulders
The Moeraki Boulders are unusually large and spherical boulders lying along a stretch of Koekohe Beach on the wave-cut Otago coast of New Zealand between Moeraki and Hampden. They occur scattered either as isolated or clusters of boulders within a stretch of beach where they have been protected in a scientific reserve.
5. Abel Tasman National Park
Here's New Zealand nature at its most glorious and seductive: lush green hills fringed with golden sandy coves, slipping gently into warm shallows before meeting a crystal-clear sea of cerulean blue. Abel Tasman National Park is the quintessential postcard paradise, where you can put yourself in the picture, assuming an endless number of poses: tramping, kayaking, swimming, sunbathing, or even makin' whoopee in the woods.
4. East Cape
New Zealand's East Cape of the North Island is one of the most isolated areas in the country. This region has a reputation for rugged yet spectacular coastlines, rich Maori heritage and culture, and a relaxed way of life centered around Te Moana (the ocean). The East Cape region is where the films Whale Rider and Boy were set and filmed. Both films portray the region's lifestyle fairly well.
3. Otago Central Rail Trail
The Otago Central Rail Trail is a 150-kilometre walking, cycling and horse riding track in the South Island of New Zealand. A pioneering project for New Zealand, the successful cycle trail joined the New Zealand Cycle Trail umbrella organisation in 2012, having been one of the inspirations for it.
2. Wai-O-Tapu
Wai-O-Tapu is an active geothermal area at the southern end of the Okataina Volcanic Centre, just north of the Reporoa caldera, in New Zealand's Taupo Volcanic Zone. The area has many hot springs noted for their colourful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser, Champagne Pool, Artist's Palette, Primrose Terrace and boiling mud pools.

Milford Sound is a spectacular glacier-carved fiord in the Fiordland National Park on the west coast of New Zealand and isone of New Zealand's most well known scenic attractions. On display in the fiord is a spectacular combination of mountains, sheer cliffs, waterfalls and marine life. It is the best known of a series of fiords in the park, and the only one which is accessible by road.

Happy to join the trip to experience some of the most beautiful views and culture tours in Oamaru. You would be surprised by so much it can offer from such a small and peaceful city. People are great, foods are tasty, traditional culture is so well being revealed in arts, dress, constructions and so on. It's definitely a must visit place in South Island.

이번에는 바닷가로 가봤다. 탁 트인 해변이 마음을 시원하게 해준다. 이 바닷가에는 독특한 볼거리가 있다. 마치 거대한 공룡알처럼 생긴 둥그런 돌덩이가 해변가 곳곳에 놓여있다. 바위 안이 드러난 것도 있는데 계란이 깨진 것 같은 모습이다. 보면 볼수록 신비롭다. 이 바위들은 약 6,500만 년 전의 바다 속 침전물 중 특정 성분이 뭉쳐져 만들어졌다고 한다. 현지에서는 ‘거인의 구슬’이라 불리고 큰 바위는 무게가 7톤에 달한다. 자연이 만들어놓은 예술 작품을 보기 위해 전 세계에서 모여드는 사람들로 이곳은 1년 12달 북적인다. “친구가 이곳에 방문하고 사진을 찍었었는데 그 사진을 보고 찾아왔어요. 사진에서 봤던 모습이 좋았습니다 아주 훌륭하고 즐거운 장소입니다” “거북이 같기도 하고 조개 같기도 하지만 거북이 모양에 더 가까운 것 같아요” 세계에서 단 하나뿐인 신비한 풍경을 기상천외한 방법으로 남겨본다. 어떤 포즈를 취해도 재미있는 추억을 만들 수 있다. 익살스러운 사진에 웃음이 절로 나온다. 나도 여기에 흔적을 남겨보기로 했다. 거북 바위를 보고 사람들이 웃음 짓길 바라며 다음 목적지로 발걸음을 옮겼다.

Ep 6 Nugget Point and Steampunk
Hello lovelies it's Kyla and Aaron, a Canadian couple from BC who love to travel! We are currently on a 5 month road trip in New Zealand and loving it. In this Episode we get a dose of some salty sea air looking out over gorgeous Nugget Point in the South Island and get a little weird at a steampunk head quarters in Oamaru. Note the walk down to the light house at Nugget Point only takes 20 minutes and is an easy, sloping path. The entry fee for steampunk HQ was $10NZ per adult. Make sure to hold off paying for a blue penguin tour if you have the time to go on an adventure for yourself because there are many places to see them around the island :)

First Snowfall for 2017 at West Island and Buzzards Bay - January 6 2017
This report the night before: An offshore storm system will affect Southeast New England with accumulating snow with confidence growing in a plowable snowfall for that area for Friday Morning and a track that will see that plowable snowfall cover much of South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island for Friday Morning. Another storm system has the potential to bring another plowable to possibly significant snowfall some time between Saturday Morning to Sunday Morning..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 12 AM to 12 PM Friday for all of South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island and Cape Cod and the Islands for 3-5 of snow with isolated higher amounts to 6 possible. Across interior South-Central Rhode Island and interior Southeast Massachusetts, 1-3 of snow is likely and outside of these areas, a coating to 1 of snow is possible with amounts of 2 possible in a few locations..
..There will be a sharp northwest cutoff between the heavier accumulating snow and the lighter snowfall area with this offshore storm system. The current trend is for a track slightly closer to the area which resulted in expansion of the Winter Weather Advisory for all of South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for Cape Cod and the Islands from Saturday Morning into Sunday Morning for 6 or more of snow and there is the potential for advisory level snow in other parts of Southeast Massachusetts and South-Central RI with this system. Similar to the Friday system, it is an offshore track with a sharp cutoff between heavier snow and lighter snow and also a wide model spread on what could occur with this system..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall reports Friday Morning in and around the Winter Weather Advisory area. SKYWARN Activation in some form is likely on Saturday but too early to get into specific details on the type and timing of any activation for Saturday..

We took a bus into Dunedin city centre, visited the Otago Settlers Museum and spent the afternoon on the Taieri Gorge Railway.
