Hardeeville is a city in Jasper and Beaufort counties in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The population was 4,789 in 2014 based on estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Hardeeville is included within the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is a 31,551 acre National Wildlife Refuge located in Chatham and Effingham counties in Georgia and Jasper County in South Carolina. Of the total area, 15,395 acres is in Georgia and 15,263 acres is in South Carolina. The refuge was established to provide sanctuary for migratory waterfowl and other birds and as a nature and forest preserve for aesthetic and conservation purposes. The refuge is one of seven refuges administered by the Savannah Coastal Refuges Complex in Hardeeville, South Carolina. The complex has a combined staff of 25 with a fiscal year 2018 budget of roughly $3,000,000.

Explore the Outdoors in South Carolina

What made me smile from the moment I started to land in South Carolina was the sheer amount of expansive green I could see below me. There have been very few states I have visited that can rival that of the English countryside, but South Carolina is one. I was lucky to visit numerous state parks, gardens and golf courses on my trip, as well as beautiful beaches, marshes and historic homes and buildings. I also got to eat some delicious food from some of the top fine-dining restaurants and some great local favourites such as shrimp and grits and boiled peanuts.
