Mata de São João é um dos destinos mais visitados do litoral da Bahia, e pouca gente sabe disso. É que a cidade - colada com Salvador -, é famosa por abrigar uma coleção de vilarejos de praia que se comportam como verdadeiros municípios emancipados, como Praia do Forte e Imbassaí. Por isso, Mata de São João se transformou no principal polo turístico do Litoral Norte.
A cidade tem uma vasta extensão territorial, mas o burburinho turístico concentra-se próximo à costa (e não poderia ser diferente). As praias têm águas relativamente calmas, e naturalmente protegidas por recifes de corais, que formam verdadeiras piscinas naturais na maré baixa. A biodiversidade marinha é uma característica dessa região, que abriga uma das mais importantes filiais do Projeto Tamar.
Como chegar
Um dos motivos que transformam Mata de São João em um dos principais destinos turísticos da Bahia é justamente seu fácil acesso. A cidade fica a menos de 60 quilômetros de Salvador, e tem acesso facílimo pela bem pavimentada BA-099 (ou Estada do Coco e Linha Verde).
Onde ficar
Mata de São João abriga nada menos que o maior polo hoteleiro do Nordeste, e um dos maiores do Brasil: a Costa do Sauípe. O empreendimento fica no limite norte da cidade, e possui um conjunto de hotéis e resorts muito bem estruturados.
Outra opção muito badalada (e mais rústica) em Mata de São João é a Praia do Forte, que tem uma orla extensa, e ocupada por um charmoso vilarejo. A praia é salpicada por uma coleção de hotéis e pousadas com excelente infraestrutura. Imbassaí também se destaca no quesito. É lá que fica o badaladíssimo Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa, e a luxuosa Pousada Capitu.
Onde comer
A gastronomia também é um ponto forte das praias de Mata de São João. A praia do Forte se é a principal nesse quesito: o centrinho conta com dezenas de restaurantes que oferecem o melhor da gastronomia regional e internacional. Imbassaí também conta com alguns restaurantes e quiosques na orla, com infraestrutura um pouco mais rústica.
Já a Costa do Sauípe também reúne bons restaurantes e bares, muitos deles assinados por chefs internacionais. Mas a maioria deles está restrito aos hóspedes, ou a uma distância tão grande das outras praias que não compensa o bate-volta. Para quem pretende se hospedar no complexo, a dica é aproveitar o burburinho noturno da Vila Nova da Praia, uma espécie de shopping ao ar livre que recria os vilarejos típicos do Nordeste.
O que fazer
Praia do Forte - É a praia mais frequentada da cidade e de todo o Litoral Norte da Bahia. Localizada a cerca de 70 quilômetros de Salvador, Praia do Forte tem águas calmas, e protegidas por recifes de corais. A orla é ocupada por um vilarejo com vida própria: há ótimos quiosques, hotéis, pousadas, restaurantes e uma vida noturna bastante agitada. Um dos cartões-postais da Praia do Forte é o Projeto Tamar, que conta com um grande complexo de entretenimento na região.
